The longest I stayed with a host was just under 2 weeks in Alexandria, Egypt. I had been traveling with a group of couchsurfers, and someone from our group had requested to stay with a host, Ali, from Alexandria. Ali said our whole group could stay with him for 2/3 nights Everyone else left after 2/3 nights except two of us who got on so well with the host that we stayed nearly 2 weeks. One of the best experiences I've had on couchsurfing. I ended up traveling with him around Egypt for another week before I left. Best CSing experience ever!

I agree with your guidelines...the majority of my stays with others as well as those of my visitors has been one night. I think two nights is better if you have plans to know the locality. However, many people are traveling and just want a place to stay..no problem. Usually dinner and breakfast are nice times to spend with guests or hosts. Only time I spent more time than I planned was when I had food poisoning in Budapest. I still left the premises during the day, but returned when my host was back home.

2 years! Friends I have known for many many years. Every weekend on their couch for 2 years in Maynard MA USA. But I have known these friends for 30+ years. And I helped them out on chores and bought them a new TV and replaced their toilet too. Yes, don't get me started on that one. And I fix their car and mine too.

I believe one can host for up to two nights and later extend the stay if the couchsurfer is compatible and follows house rules. I dont acccept copy/paste request anymore. I read the profiles and the reviews they write. Also I see the friend list, some have over 100 friends and only a a couple of recommendations. I dont accept ramdom friend request. I value my time and now screen more . CS is free but surfers can help out doing simple chores and picking up after themselves. Also I like to know whom am I hosting, so I ask for their real names not the nicknames they use in the profile after all they are entering my home, using my IP address and living in it. I also tell them to limit their cell phone use at the dinning table, I have kids and teach them to value this time more. Every traveler and host is different so we learn a little more as we go. I live in Tijuana Mexico .

I just had bad experience with number 3, i had 2 coushsurfing guest man and woman and another woman who tagged along with them. I later found out the couple were the women and they left me soiled and bloodied sheets and blankets! It takes effort, time and money to host. Some travelers feel they are staying at a hotel and expect room service like attention. I now ignore copy/paste request and from people who have never hosted.

What do you do if you stay in a country longer than a week? Every 3 or 2 nights you would have to look for a place to stay rather than spending time looking for other things to do in a country. Especially when you have poor internet connection and no one is responding quick enough.

Well, that's the life of a low cost traveller... Hotels were invented so that you don't need to go through the process of researching a host, if you don't want to be bothered with that and you don't want to risk, you have the option to pay for accommodation and stay alone. Also remember that you don't need to spend time to look for "other things to do in a country", the point is that if you have a CS host, (s)he's going to tell you what to do. As for "no one is responding quick enough" it's up to you to request enough in advance and plan your trip properly. You start sending the requests 7-10 days before the trip so you give a couple of days time to respond.

How do you deal with laundry, when couchsurfing?
@WhatashameMaryJane
@WhatashameMaryJane 4 жыл бұрын
Small things like underwear or t-shirts are quick to hand wash under the tap. For bigger loads I always think I'm going to go to an automatic laundry shop. In reality, at least once every 10 days I've always found very nice hosts who have offered me to use their washing machine. Never been to a laundromat so far. I also always offer my guests to use the washing machine.
