depending on which spice and how expired they are - yes you can tell... some spices go fairly nasty when they expire... others just lose some potency, so it might not be quite as noticable

Basically, my mom puts any sorta dairy item in the freezer and stores it for eternity. For my last birthday, I enjoyed a cake, that was 7 years old at that point. It was made by my grandma for my 8th birthday. She isn't here anymore. But I had some of her memory left in the freezer.
