About 10 years ago, I decided to repaint my 200+ Tyranids. They were still in the original color schemes, with some in orange and others in blue/purple, with the skill of someone who had been painting for a couple of days. I decided I wanted one swarm scheme too. But ... I had four kids and a wife. My hobbies were always placed at the bottom of the pile (and 40K is expensive). So, I decided to share color schemes between my Tyranids and Space Marines (Imperial Fists). Boltgun for bone, Yellow for skin, and blood red for exposed muscles. This combo was easy to paint and cheap. It was much, much faster than my old schemes. Add a black wash and some white highlights and it is quick, easy, and cheap. Thus, I completed my Hive Fleet Maelstrom. :) Of course, part of the speed did come from painting the same layers on piece after piece. By the time I finished one layer, the first pieces were dry and I could start on the next layer.

I really enjoyed this video. We are seeing too much of reality TV seep into the hobby with 24 hour challenges, paint one mini in 1 hour etc. This was a breath of fresh air to remind us of why we love the hobby and set unrealistic goals sometimes. The best part for me was that y'all were happy with what you've done at the end which is the most important part. Love the paint schemes and great editing!!!

I totally agree! It just isn't a realistic target for people (myself included), and I think it can make people feel a little down about their own progress. I've tried (and failed) at loads of 24-hour videos because life often gets in the way, and that is ok! 😀 also, thanks for the kind words!

So, I've really enjoyed the old Squidmar challenge vids where he had friends over and jammed some crazy challenges. That said, I 💯 % agree that it was really refreshing to see this natural , honest, take on painting and building some minis. I'm a bit inspired by it. Thank you for making it. This is the first vid I've seen from BW, but it got my subscription, I look forward to more. Hopefully, an update when finished?

This video is honestly so amazing it helps show people that it really does take more time than you think especially for new beginners, I currently work 24/7 so finding time to just paint is very difficult especially when one mini can take me 5-6 hours. Nice video, I'm still painting mine. One recommendation I would make with this box is to just do the combat patrols first. Yes the big screamer killer is lovely but it's not part of the combat patrol so leave it until later. That way you feel like you are achieving something cohesive sooner, although I am breaking up the Termagants into t20 chunks and painting something more exiting in-between.

I considered warhammer once after I flopped in a Magic tournament and wandered into the tabletop room. ."Well this looks fun..." Then I soon realized all the extra work and money involved on the baubles needed to play....and ran for the hills. Honestly....these gaming companies really do make a simple dice game extraordinarily expensive. Imagine rolling up to a Warhammer game with bits and bobs found around the house representing your army? The rules would really be the same...except you have bits and bobs instead of fancy models....yeah...go home. My kid wanted to play D&D. So I bought some dice and a couple pads of paper. We are playing D&D.

so i have a nid army, and well... it took me i wanna say close to 2 weeks to paint as well, tho i didnt have the leviathan box, i had the combat patrol starter box... fair note i did partially start my blood angels, as i wont be using the space marine combat patrol, as stat wise, they feel.... bad.... idk... but yeah... it definately takes time, and the more time you spend the better they can turn out. i recommend you ask around at your local hobby shop that sells 40k sets and stuff, find the experienced painters and ask for help. my first minis painted were geller pox infected kill team, and they turned out really well for a first time painting, but after getting that brush work experience, and learning tips and tricks from other painters, my nids turned out way better than if i just went along with what i learned strictly from the gellerpox, ie i wouldnt have the edge highlights on the armour plates, i never wouldve washed them with the right shade if at all, the only reason i washed the geller pox was to sickify them with a green overtone... so yeah... all in all, dont be afraid to try new things, and always reach out to those around you with more time doing what you find interesting to get a better understanding of what your doing. also while i do agree, having a base line for what you want in the end, dont be afraid to tweak it mid project if you like something else... my marines changed lke 3 times and are probably going to change a bit more before i finish them lol

Ciara regarding zenithal: "...it was super smooth surprisingly." People like to rag on GW hobby products, but their sprays are actually awesome for smooth zenithal undercoats. I backed-to-backed a few brands and GW sprays seem to be at a higher pressure and produce a finer mist of spray, so zenithals come out less spotty than many other brands.

The best trick is to prime the figures with dark colors and apply a white(gray) dry brush on them to give volume to the details. Then just paint simple basic colors with white highlights here and there. The result is very decent and enjoyable to paint; no frustration during, no dissappointment after. Oh, I almost forgot = you 100% need the very thinnest brush you can get your hands on, for the faces etc.
