I brought a 3 year old stray living off the street that had cancer removed from her eyes and won’t have a bar of us but within 2 days she was smitten with my 3 year old boy cat. He hissed for a couple days but now he loves her within 5 days. They now sleep together. And we live in a 1 bedroom apartment. Sounds like we lucked out.

7:00 temperament of the resident cat is such an important thing to keep in mind! Never in a million years did I think a cat would just let a newcomer eat and take their food away from them, unfortunately I forgot that my resident cat (Spooky) is a massive wuss. Honestly I think I was more stressed out in the process of getting a new cat than she was😭

When Tabby the Feral, son of Black Mama joined us, Blacky, son of Patches was like "oh no". Booties, daughter of Patches was apoplectic and was cursing at Tabby for over a year, however, Patches was like "oh hi!" Tiger, son of Patches, was like "Hey, Tabby, let's be buddies!" Tiger and Tabby even slept in a box together.

I have 4 cats. 2 male, 2 female. When the youngest (male) was brought in 3 years ago, none of the cats liked him. All this time later, two will "tolerate" him, but one of the female still absolutely hates him. I mean hates him! Luckily for the youngest, when we got the Great Pyrenees, the youngest male and the female dog became fast friends, so he's not lonely anymore. The other 3 cats don't care for the dog though, but they do live in peace but aren't friends.

I'm curious: Did you do show introductions? Are your cats fixed? If resident cats are fixed and new cat isn't, that could be the problem. Unfixed cats give off hormones--a different smell that bothers other cats. But, as I am also learning, some cats will not be good friends and simply tolerate living in the same home.

I enjoy the videos and appreciate the help one thing i would like mentioned more is importance of spay/neutering cats they make much better companions and easier to help with so many issues in homes also bringing unalterable pets in homes brings the issue of unwanted babies worse aggression to not only each other you have rescued several males that my husband could not deal with until they were neutered then both become his babies they were more tolerant of my children no longer marking on things so many more very important reasons to promote pet spaying and neutering most areas offer low cost clinics which also can give that cat a check on any issues health wise that may effect not only that pet but others in home including humans i watch alot of your videos but haven't seen one on importance of fixing not sure if one is out there but definitely a good topic to discuss i have 2 local numbers saved in phone that i donate to i give that number to people who say they don't have the money or who are not educated on the importance of this matter would love to see this subject brought into videos because there are almost no negative (i know always could be an exception to this i have a dog unable to undergo surgery but most animals are able to undergo these procedures) the positives to doing this makes for a much better companion again thank you for taking your time to help with our special amazing fur baby companions 🐱😸💝

Let's face it. Cats are not pack animals. They prefer to live alone but can accept or tolerate another feline at the same household. Usually it works a bit better if they come from the same litter and don't know anything else. If they are outdoor cats, they will split their territory up and avoid each other most of the time, except for eating and resting. While resting they can rely on the safety of another cat, dog or human for that matter. That's about it. Wild cats live together for security reasons only and often only females as they need extra security while having kittens. Indoor cats can get even more annoyed as they don't have anywhere to escape. The territory is usually too small and they don't need help with the security. The other cat is not considered company but might be tolerated in the end as they have no other options. Please don't treat cats as if they were dogs and pack animals.

Thanks for another great video SCW. I got this older video suggested by YT and still have this... situation with my two male unneutered cats. What wasn't discussed was if they groom each other does it make them bonded? My young and older one do lick each other however they still get into scraps. My young one I think mainly plays with the older guy who is scared of him (the older cat was the original cat of the apartment.) They get along or tolerate each other most of the time however the young one will start to hunt the old guy who turns around and runs to a hiding spot mainly when I'm busy or gone from the apartment. I'm trying to get the older cat to stick up for himself and to not run away when stocked and maybe give the young one a light tap to get him off his back. While I think they're buddies they still do scrap which I think will never end. I know neutering helps (I think it's too late now) I think they're by and large bonded (Sammy the older cat even defends the young guy when he does something wrong and I get a little angry.) From what anyone can gather, have they really bonded or will it be the odd scrap until one of them passes?

I have a male cat and female cat both fixed. I was given the female cat about 6 months ago. She’s 13 and my male cat is 12. We have had him for 4 years. The female cat has not seen to have adapted to our family and our cat hasn’t warmed up to her at all. Our male cat started spraying, steals her food, and starts fights every once in awhile. The female cat just stays in the main bedroom mostly in the closet in a cat bed. She will venture out into other areas of our house every so often but the master bedroom is her domain. I hope she warms up to us eventually and the cats will live in peace. But that remains to be seen.

Some suggestions I learned: • give cat treats to the resident cat when he's being accepting of new cat. • use two adults to play with each cat in the same room. Repeat. • scent swap: one way...use a sock to rub on resident cat, then rub his scent in to new car. Repeat daily.

Playful kittens should make friends sooner than adult cats. Adopting two kittens solve so many potential problems.

Sometimes they just don't want the OTHER cat messing with their stuff you know it's six to one cat and half a dozen to ANOTHER cat. You know what I mean Vern 😁😁🐈🐈

I have 3 females and I brought in another cat who is a male. Well, let's just say he was acting like a bully and attacking my black cat. It's been a year and once in awhile he still does it but not as much. But my females don't forget what he did to them. lol

I know only too well how cats not getting along can lead to stress and ill health. One of mine died of a tumour earlier this year and I swear it was anxiety and stress that did it. He was only 6
