How to INTRODUCE TWO CATS Quickly and Successfully is not difficult. With the proper protocol, we are going to make cat-to-cat introductions in between 2 to 10 days with very high chances of success.
There is the misbelieve that cats are solitary animals but that’s simply not true. I am a true believer that cats will appreciate and thrive if they can enjoy the company of other cats, as stray cats in your community do.
If you are planning to socialize your cat, with this protocol you are going to be able to do it safe and quick.

Love this video and it helped me greatly when I moved into my current flat and had to introduce my male cat to two female resident cats. The process went really smoothly and it took us only a couple of days before introducing them visually. After that We had the ocasional hissing and scratch but never any major attack. And one of those females is a feisty one, I mean she chases dogs and scares the hell out of them 🙈🙈 So I’m happy to say it was an introduction success! It’s been almost 2 years now and they all get along fine. In fact my cat has gained confidence and came out of his shell a lot. I also feel it’s important that the cat owners transmit a feeling of trust and confidence to the cats because if you are afraid and tentative, chances are your cat will pick that up and mirror fear back to you. Thanks so much for your very valuable videos and example Albert.

Hi Albert, like everyone else, I love your videos. I know how to introduce cats for adoption purposes, but how did you make friends outside on neutral territory? You said Mia has friends with 1 specific cat she seems closest with. I don’t want to adopt another cat, but I would like to introduce her outside to a friend’s cat. Please make a video of this, explaining how you did this.

@@OutdoorBengal Thanks! We took it really SLOOOOW. 🤦🏻‍♀️ After 2 weeks, our resident cat accidentally saw our kitten earlier than we wanted and starting hissing at her. We had to take a few steps back and after 3 weeks, they finally saw each other. It wasn’t until 4 weeks later that they actually started playing/chasing one another. Every now and then, we’ll hear a hiss when one gets too carried away. Thanks so much again for these helpful tips!

Great video. I'm currently introducing my 9 week old kitten to my 9 year old resident cat. Things went very well with feeding behind the door and at screens. Both cats do so happily and with high curled tails. My resident cat even shakes the tip of his tail like a rattle snake lol. Though when I get them together without screen or door. For feeding the kitten doesnt want to eat and will try to stick his head in resident cats dish and bum etc. The kitten knows no boundries😅. He wants to play and pounce on my resident cat. Even after I think I have exhausted him and allow them to be together supervised. He looses interest in all toys and my efforts to distract etc😩. My resident cat will avoid him as best he can. Turn and walk away. Though he gives the kitten a little hiss when followed. My kitten backs up a bit in shock. I always remove my kitten when my resident cat hisses. For I feel he has had enough❤️. I never want it to escalate. Though a part of me wonders will the kitten ever stop this? Who will teach the kitten boundaries? Explain to me how my kitten will ever know when enough is enough. If my resident cat isn't able to teach him? Please help what do I do next? Can not afford a third cat 😓

I finally understood WHY they should eat next to the door... never though the would smell each other through it and make a happy assosiation. Thanks! Do u have any tips on when the cats where introduced „left alone” too quickly and one attacked the other (quite badly)? We now are following the protocol, but they have seen and converesed with one another and now changed the smell a lot but when we open the door as the next step the resident cat hisses at the newcomer. We dont live where the resident cat lives so we though of maybe starting over next time we come. Feeding at the schedule the resident cat is not an option so we will try feeding them but moreover playing over the door. They have exchanged plenty of smell yet I think the first memory might be chasing us 🙄.
@OutdoorBengal
@OutdoorBengal 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah... first memories can stick for a while. How is that you can't put your resident cat on a schedule? Could you at least put the bowl down when the other is around? Another thing that can work is if you have a fence or some sort of separation where they could see each other but not interact physically. That will help them relax and chill while the other is around. Also, hissing is normal, specially at the beginning, a hiss or two should not stop the session but if they become agressive or fearful, then stop it. With time the resident cat will hiss less and less, and the incoming cat will learn to respect the space. Building a strong bond, will take more time... sometimes will never do, but they will adapt to coexist, that's certain.

@@OutdoorBengal I can maybe help a little with this one. I had a dog that would try to chase and kill cats. One day I brought home a tiny kitten and I think because it was so little and I brought it in the house he not tollerated it hanging on his tail, he would stand out in the yard over it protecting it. I think it is a little different when that other animal is outside of the home environment.

@@lazy_little_leopard Take a look at the post I just put up responding to Albert on this question. I had a Shepard Husky mix! that actually dragged my 14yr old son and his friend while on a leash having them all torn up and bleeding, caught a neighbor cat and killed it! Then later, we got a kitten and he protected it and would walk around with it hanging on it's tail. Go figure. I think dogs are more protective of kittens. I really do. We lived out in the country and he came home one day with a kitten in his mouth he basically rescued. I would make it a point to really respectfully introduce the cat almost like asking the dogs permission and not just bring it in and let it loose....lol

The problem is that is not very comfortable for Mia and looks ugly in pictures) - amzn.to/2Hj7G07 - Light Harness for Photography (Mia's favorite harness! Very interesting video and highly relevant as I am planning on bringing home a second kitty soon. I have two questions, 1. is it the same steps even for kittens (My resident cat is 10 months old and the Incoming cat is 5 months old). 2. I live alone, so if the process takes a couple of days and the cats are in separate rooms during the first few phases, that means one cat will have to sleep alone 🥺 what's the best way to navigate this?
@kelyrin-douceuretdessin9476

Thank you so much Albert for this video. We have an issue with the protocol… the new cat is getting attached to our contact and he finds it difficult to be left alone in a room. He’s meow when we leave, try to scratch the door… he ends up giving up but it’s kind of heartbreaking. On the contrary, our resident cat is not as expressive but I’m afraid that if she’s the one that goes into the room, she’ll feel neglected now that the new one is here. We’ve tried letting them free roam but very quick fights happen once or twice a day (mostly during night) so we’re going to try and give the protocol another try. Do you think that switching every day might be an option ? So that new one still gets contact and ability to sleep with us and old one still is able to do the same ? Thanks in advance 💓

@OutdoorBengal
@OutdoorBengal 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much!! The trick that works most of the times is to give a big meal in the morning and remove the food when they finish. When they get back they won't find it but usually they eat out of boredom, not hunger. Keep always a bowl of water out and try to distract them with playtime instead of with food. You can start feeding on a schedule 4 or even 5 times a day and reduce to 3 or 4. Good luck!

Hello! I just got a new kitten that I'm introducing to my 3 year old cat... Both are male cats, the kitten is super laid back. We have had the kitten for four days now. I did a bit of the scent sharing (mostly with scent from the kitten for the older cat to smell, since the kitten is super confortable already. The older cat hasn't like it at all, lots of hissing... they have seen each other a couple of times from far away, with lots of hissing from the older cat. And he's avoiding coming upstairs in the house (the kitten is in a room upstairs)... do you have any advice? should I just keep doing the scent sharing? The older cat has no interest in going upstairs at all... do I push a little at some point by bringing food up or something? I feel like he can avoid coming upstairs forever, since there's nothing upstairs that interests him.. his food, favorite places to sleep are all downstairs. The kitten is so ready to leave the room, it's getting harder to keep him in. Also, we have a dog, and the kitten met the dog and within 2 minutes they were totally fine with each other! Any advice?

Sometimes they don't care and sometimes they hiss on door/his toys or are just scared. One of them constantly guard the door when I'm in with kitten and I have no idea what that means.

Hi, I just got a bengal kitten that’s 12 weeks yesterday. What is the best foods to be feeding kittens? I know this is a random question but can you post a video on how to train your cat with a harness?! At what age do we train them?
@OutdoorBengal

Hello! I have a video talking about harness aclimatation and leash training. Check my profile, there are only 13 videos so should be easy to find :p In terms of food, bengals are a little delicate when it comes to eating. For Mia I had to try several brands until I found one that worked well for her. This is the product: amzn.to/2Jci0bg hope this helps!

I received my new bengal two weeks ago, he was 9 weeks when I received him. He was on a wet/dry food but I didn't like the ingredients in the products so I got a brand called "smack" and he loves it very healthy all natural ingredients a little bit on the expensive side but well worth it. It is dehydrated food, I just add warm water to it I buy the fish and the chicken version . It's like he's addicted to it. I only feed him twice a day. 11 am and 6pm

At the beginning introduce them slowly, through at door as explained on the video. As time passes and they get comfortable, you can let them be together!

I have a serious problem and need advice ASAP please 🙏🏻 I have 3 cats (2 boys & 1 female) and a small female dog. They all get along for the most part. Here’s the issue: my neighbor lets her cat out all hours of the night and it likes to visit my oldest male at the window. At times, they just sit and stare at each other, other times they go bonkers and pounce at the window toward one another and my cat gets this heavy breathing thing going on and paces back and forth on the window sill...the cat outside has no fear and my other cats try to come see what’s going on but then all my cats start hissing and growling at each other (all while the outside cat is still there just looking in...kinda creepy lol) This cat is waking me up all hours of the night/morning and upsetting my cat family. I keep my windows closed but my screen on the other side is ruined from his nails pouncing at my cat. Another MAIN problem is that I used to walk right by the cat outside coming and going from car to my house with no problems, even petted it a couple times (not long just a quick hello). I have put food , water, and a little house for him to keep warm outside (not sure if it’s a boy or girl yet). Well, I went to pet it the other day but let it smell my hand first and it sniffed then growled, hissed and tried to attack me! I walked away towards my door and it ran after after me and got me on my ankle (drew a little bit of blood). A few days after that incident, I was carrying grocery bags to my door and I didn’t see it, then my 2nd trip to drop off more bags, there he was...my other neighbor had to basically stand there blocking it so it would stay where it was and not come after me...he was growling but stayed a little distance (still kinda close to my door thou) So now, I am afraid to go out front at night because he may be out there and in attack mode. I’m not sure how to stop this behavior besides for asking my neighbor to keep her cat inside but I don’t think that will work anyway so I’m looking for suggestions. First, for my safety and second, for my cats not to get upset and wake me up several times. This has been happening for over a month and not many days off in between...please help if possible 😻🙏🏻😻

OMG. Call animal control! That cat since outdoors and from the sounds of it since you are putting housing, food, etc out for it seems uncared for. It could have RABIES! You can die. By the time you have rabies it is too late and there isn't a cure. If your reading this I'll assume your ok? That cat needs dealt with right away unfortunately. I just posted also about how my next door neighbors cat attacked mine and ripped the skin clean off the back of his neck. That isn't normal behavior for most cats to attack humans but I did have someone I rented to who would leave her poor cat without food or water and an unclean litter box that shared on other floor of my house that chased and tried biting me even though I fed it. I even took pictures of it hissing at me. I made her remove the cat and then herself for non payment. this girl knew there was something really vicious about her cat because she kept antiseptic spray for guests.

How old is the bengal? Looks like the bengal is youger and more eager to play... Have you tried draining your bengal's energy more often, that would prevent them from playing rough together, giving your other cat the space they need. On the other hand, if the bengal is young, they will mellow with time also seeking more alone time which will benefit both of them.

Will this also work when you have to reintroduce cats living together who are now fighting because of misdirected anger. My cats got along fine, Luna does not always want to play and then she growls and the other cats leave her alone. One day my cousin decided to show up at my house with her two dogs (I told her to never come to my house with her dogs), I told her get into the house through the garage and put the dogs in the guestroom, but instead she paraded through my house with her dogs ( I was in the shower). The cats were all on high alert and now when Luna growled Mango attacked her, because of the dogs. I have kept them separate because Mango now is laser focused when she sees Luna, but she won't attack until Luna growls. I am going to try your method and hope it will work.
@OutdoorBengal
@OutdoorBengal 3 жыл бұрын
Hello! I am wondering how is it going so far. Isolating the cats to avoid fights while you are not present is a good idea but try to keep them in the same room at sight reach. I would try to feed them and play with them so that they can disconnect from each other and focus on the activity at hand. In this case, both cats know each other and first impressions are already made. Try to avoid comfrontation but help them coexist again. Make sure they don't have to fight for resources. You might want to feed them slightly above average for a bit, provide an extra litter box or get an extra cat tree. Give them the possibility to have their own space within the common areas so that they cat get back to living normal lives together. When peace is stablished, consider removing them (or not). Keep me updated, I'd love to know how this story ends!

@@OutdoorBengal thank you for your response, I have to keep them a part even when I am home because Mango is laser focused on Luna and will attack as soon as Luna makes a sound. However I have started giving them snacks in one room, and as soon as they are done separate them. I let change up letting them walked through the house so their smell are all over. They have a lot of play space, and also go outside in my screened in pool area. It seems today it went ok, and Mango is starting to play with Luna under the door. Your tips are amazing. I keep them together until I see their ears move to the back then I separate them. But it seems it is slowly getting in the right direction. Also do you have tips for Mango, she loves leash training ahhaha but attacks us and the other cats when we bring her back inside 😂. My other cats don’t do that.

You are doing it right. Share scents first (create positive reinforcement with food). Let them then have visual contact without physical contact and at last, let them be in the same room but not directly interacting, try to entertain them with food or toys. If they hiss, sepparate them and try again in a few hours or even the next day. Good luck!

I saved my cat from the streets. He is verry "jealous" and territorial when another cat came to visit and peed on the sofa afterwards. I'd love to have a new cat but I'm scared and don't like to bring my cat discomfort but I think maybe he would like a companion. I'm not sure if I better bring another male in or female cat.
@OutdoorBengal
@OutdoorBengal 3 жыл бұрын
Hello! That's such a good question... Most cats enjoy other cats company but not cats are the same and it might be that yours doesn't. Nonetheless, I'd not take one occasion as a rule... I would try to socialize your cat first and specially if it's very territorial, make him comfortable with other people or cats could be a good first step before bringing a new cat/kitten in... Regarding the gender, I'm not aware of gender being a differentiating factor, if all cats on the picture are spayed or neutered. What's said is that male cats do develop a more laid-back personality after neutering and are often seen as the more playful and cuddly gender, by some. Females also seem to revert to a more relaxed demeanor, which might not seem as noticeable because they tend not to show much aggression to begin with.

@@OutdoorBengal My cat sadly has passed. We were very bonded and I walked him on a leash too. I'll post more about that on another of your videos since I am driven to post a lot to this one :) But I never Neutered him and he never sprayed in the house, and I mean never. T he vet even said that some cats do and some don't and some male cats will spray anyway irregardless of being neutered. He was the most affectionate lovable cat to me and all people. The cat I tried to bring in was a female fixed, and he was NOT trying to mate with her. He was severely terrorizing her and kicking her ass and it never stopped. It was every day. I was afraid he would kill her. She was full grown but very small. He was so unbelievably terratorial that that was his kingdom that I think it could have only been worse if it was another male. Who knows............

I've just been watching your videos upvoted and loved them, but I disagree with this one. I had three cats all different ages two strays all introduced to each other at different times and they got along winningly from the first instant. I ended up with the baby of the three only eventually. I tried to introduce a new cat that was actually kept on another floor and then they met and it was outside the house and would keep them out on runners. No matter how many months went by he attacted her every single day till I had to adopt her out for her own safety. She followd me everywhere, she sat on my lap, etc. That was HIS spot and he was having no part of it. Also, another cat that was a stray left out in below zero temperatures I caught and was just going to put in box to take to a rescue. They had been sitting on oposite sides of the window for a long time. When I opened the door my cat went airborn attacking it, and my hand was severely punctured in the insuing biting between them. I have another and that is the next door neighbors cat came over up on our porch and attacked my cat so badly it ripped the skin right off of his back biting his neck. That is a death bite. I had to take him to the vet, and it was horrible. You wouldn't expect it because he was the most affectionate sweet cat and just loved people and they loved him. Cats are all different and not one answer will fit. Also trying to separate them when they fight can put you at great risk, so you better have heavy duty gloves or a boot. Yikes.
