Arch - E Because the fact that this might be the first African Americans vet I EVER remember seeing, bring me great confidence that I can become too. Don’t asked why a person of color brings color into things. Because people of color usually never see color in the world. Seeing a person that looks like you doing the same thing you want to will always be an amazing feeling. JisooTurtleRabbitKim 8 years means 8 years AFTER your 4 years of high school. You’ll be 21/22 when you get your first degree. But an additional 4 years of vet school means you’ll be about 25/26. Hope this helped!!! :)

angelxdahyun girl you have to go to university and get a bachelors degree which takes 4 years then you have to go to vet school for 4 years so in total it takes 8 years so you will be 26 not 22

Chicken Unicorn unless they did running start and started early. I know of a few people that took hs classes in middle school and eventually took college courses their freshman year of hs. Very smart people, quite rare though.

It’s fine wanting to become a vet, but it’s time somebody explained the problem with getting into vet college where enrolment quota system is in place, and where as in Canada you can only apply to one college associated with your province. If you don’t get into the quota then you are stuck with the problem of applying as an international student and paying some 6 times the tuition fee that the quota people pay.

I’m 21 I’m barely gonna start. 8 years from now you can either be 8 years into this path, or be 8 years into somewhere else. Time happens regardless. It’s just scary because I wanna be a mom with be financially stable. I don’t think I can be a college student still in my late 20’s. I love animals I think I’m still gonna do it. But man I just hope sacrificing all of it will be worth it.

Hi Althia! thank you for watching. No a residency is not required to practice on exotic pets. Many veterinarians will do an internship following graduation to get more experience working with exotics or join a veterinary practice with an experienced exotics veterinarian who can mentor them.

Hi Alanah. I have saved many animals lives, too many to count. And Yes, it hurts me emotionally and physically every time I see an animal or human in pain. Sometimes I cry if the animal is really sick, if I have to euthanize an animal or if the owner is sad. But it doesn't stop me from wanting to keep caring for them. I just focus on how I can help them feel better.

I don't mean for this question to sound stupid but has there ever been people who have graduated earlier with vet degree? Also are you able to do surgeries or would that only be for vet who are licensed specialists

Hmmm, not so sure about graduating earlier because everything is paced out specifically so you receive all the knowledge on subjects you need to know. For example, in college for your bachelors degree, you can take summer classes and winter classes in order to graduate early. That's not possible for vet school and I know for the vet school I'm applying to, you are in classes two of the four summers that you will be attending vet school. Graduating early doesn't happen for vet school. And surgeries - yes you get to perform them in vet school while you are being supervised by veterinarians/your professors. Although you typically don't do surgeries until your 3rd or 4th year, though some schools do minor ones earlier.
