I would say “it depends on the country where you from”. I’m from Japan n I got it a week later ( around 8days), and another Japanese too like 2 weeks or less. But my friends who are from another country got it after 4-5 months or so.

So, i applied for study permit on May 14th 2022. However, for some reason my study permit fees didn't consist of Biometrics fees. I got an request email from IRCC requesting me to pay for Biometrics on 8th August, 2022. I payed for it that day itself. Since then it had been 16 days. I have yet not got my BIL. If you’re applying for the regular study permit stream, as long as you secure a Letter of Acceptance from a DLI - you can start on your study permit application. If you are applying under SDS (where you get a study permit faster), it is required you pay for the 1st year of tuition fees to be eligible for the SDS program. The process of getting a letter of acceptance depends on the school you’re applying to. Some schools require just a security deposit to get an LOA (letter of acceptance), but you don’t necessarily have to pay the tuitions fees upfront. But you are expected to pay for the terms before starting classes. In case you don’t get an approval on your SP, schools do have a refund policy and will return all or some of the amount back to you.

I submitted sometime in mid July 2017 and got my visa approved in mid Sept 2017. It was relatively quicker than how IRCC processes application nowadays. Right now processing times for SP outside Canada is 15 weeks.
