I feel like part of why newer generations have longer "tutorial" areas, aside from x and y, is because they spent so much time on this "really cool new mechanic that they want people to try out" and they want people to get it as early as possible. X and y understood that mega evolution was balance breaking in a way, and so they locked it behind the third or fourth gym. Memory not great, head empty. Whereas in sword and shield, Scarlet violet, they wanted you to be able to do big thing early.

@youtube-kit94506 ай бұрын
"x and y understood that mega evolution was balance breaking in a way" uhm... that obviously isn't why they made mega evolution accessible at that point. If they cared about game balance, they wouldn't have broken it so badly in every other area. The reason they give terastallization and dynamax in the beginning but mega stones at the third gym is simply because the first two mechanics can be used by every pokémon while you barely have access to pokémon that can mega evolve before the third gym and it'd be pointless to give it to you earlier since you need fully evolved pokémon. Also, they learned on how they broke game balance by only giving Lysandre and Diantha a mega by having all gym leaders use the mechanic, so it makes sense from a game balance point to give you access to the mechanic from the start aswell. Same with Z-moves.

why do the dreamyard, which is optional, but exclude the HGSS sprout tower, which is mandatory? you can't actually do anything in the gym until you complete sprout tower in hgss, so just going inside is useless. meanwhile you can attempt the gym without setting foot in the dreamyard in bw, it's just meant to be very difficult without doing so.

All the rivals and Gym Leaders leave you alone so you can just freely explore. You can get most places because that whole fast travel Thing Once you access a points really helps. All I know is I got probably 80% of the Pokemon before I even had my ride Pokemon and there's enough random crap everywhere that keeps you sustained. In the end I spent 190 hours running around the world before I went to school that first morning. It's a challenge that I suggest to anyone cuz you don't have access to your ride Pokemon you are literally running around and using glitch method of throwing a Pokeball at a Pokemon that's on high ground or across a river and you get pulled over there to battle it. Kinda, but honestly, kinda not as well. I mean, of course these are clever ways to give you tutorials without the need to straight up telling you what to do, but when you consider that learning how to play pokemon was as simple as leveling up with your first rival fight, getting a STAB move and testing it against bugs in the forest, it feels like having hour long tutorials is really not necessary at all. Also, the main reason they're so long isn't even the stuff they teach you but the roundabout way they have to tell you everything. Great video! Just a few things to note though - The Sinnoh gym leader is a guy named Roark. Roxanne is the Hoenn gym leader. Easy to mix them up, since they are both rock-type specialists and the 1st gym of their respective regions. Fun fact, the steel-type specialist gym leader later on in Sinnoh is actually Roark's dad! That's why they look similar and both use the region's fossil pokemon. - Ilima is a guy, not a girl. Some people theorize that he was swapped with Mina, the fairy-type specialist you fight towards the end of the game, because having an femboy like Ilima be the fairy-type specialist wouldn't be a good look internationally. This theory points out how Ilima uses a smeargle and komala, while Mina is a sleepy painter. And Ilima has that pink hair, and those sparkly eyes that look like the fairy-type users of X and Y, plus his outfit looks similar to ribombee, Mina's ace. IDK if I believe it myself, but it is interesting to think about! - The rival in the Let's Go games is not Blue, actually. The real Blue is a character who shows up later in the game. Blue is less of a jerk in Let's Go. Red also shows up outside of the Indigo League once you are a champion to battle you. The fact that Red and Blue exist as characters means that either these games take place in an alternate universe, or you and your rival are Red and Blue's younger siblings.

And before anyone tries to argue that Pokeballs are brainwashing machines, Yellow version's Pikachu, the Farfetch'd in Elix Forest from GSC and HGSS and the disobedience mechanic for traded Pokemon in previous generations prove otherwise.

You're asking me to show you an explicit example - not a lore-based or implied one, but an EXPLICIT example of a Pokemon killing a human _IN A GAME MADE FOR KIDS._ Do you not see the problem there? I could point out that a major plot point for Legends: Arceus is that wild Pokemon in that era were aggressive and dangerous and you'd literally reject that simply because we don't see someone getting bloodily run through by a Scyther's talons on-screen. That being said, we've seen situations where it very reasonably could have happened: Ruby: Groudon would have completely sterilized the planet with intense heat had it not been stopped. Sapphire: Kyogre would have completely flooded the planet, making it inhospitable for human or any other land-based life, had it not been stopped. Emerald: Kyogre and Groudon would have left the planet completely uninhabitable due to weather extremes had Rayquaza not been woken up to intervene. Diamond and Pearl: Dialga/Palkia would have basically altered space-time to the point where nothing could exist if Cyrus wasn't stopped. Platinum: In addition to the above, Giratina dragged Cyrus into a world that, while technically habitable, basically had no ability to support human life. Black 2/White 2: Indirect case of actual murder by a Pokemon. Ghetsis used Kyurem's ice-type abilities to power the cryo-canon on the Plasma Frigate, which was then used to freeze an entire city full of people. He also outright orders Kyurem, which is NOT kept in a Pokeball I might add and thus not subject to any supposed "brainwashing", to kill the player with Glaciate, and is only stopped by the timely intervention of N and whichever Dragon of Legend he has based on the version of the game - this is probably the closest we get to an on-screen "death by Pokemon". Also, Ghetsis doesn't just wear an eyepatch for show, background lore states that his Hydregon tried to eat his face at one point and he lost his eye as a result. Omega Ruby: See Ruby Omega Sapphire: See Sapphire Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon: Necrozma ate the sun of a planet with a civilization on it, forcing them to rely on artificial sources of light. Knowing how important sunlight is to a planet's climate and ecosystem, that civilization is on borrowed time. We also see in the Ultra Ruin that Guzlord literally ate an entire city and the few people that are left live in hiding for fear of being eaten themselves. Sword/Shield: Not directly shown, but the continued references to the "Darkest Day" and giant Pokemon guarantees that things reached the Godzilla threshold, and that always comes with a death toll. Legends: Arceus: You black out and wake up back at camp, implying you were rescued. Now, imagine what would happen if no one came to save you.

I wont pretend to know the whole thing but if you're just opposed to the idea that enslaving pokemon is wrong then that's kind of stupid and concerning.

Something I noticed while watching this, as the games stories get more complex the time to reach the first gym gets longer. Like, the first game really only has Blue to introduce while gen 9 has a bunch more characters

'ight. Well I came from the second Video just now, so it wouldn't really make sense for me to make a prediction here since I did already see the graphs, but I think I'll do that for future videos. Well then hope to see ya in (hopefully) less than 3 motnhs. I'll still watch the video though, your commentary on these things is honestly really interesting.

Ah, firstgym%. The only time the Charmander line is actually usable. Except... wait a minute... if you go with Yellow instead Pikachu is even better in the early game. Here's why: Charmander starts with Scratch, which is a 40 power normal type move, and has a base attack of 52. Pikachu starts with Thundershock, which is a 40 power electric type move, and has a base special attack of 50. However, Thundershock is super-effective against Pidgey, Rattata's base special is 25 vs its 35 defense, Caterpie only has 20 base special vs Weedle's base 30 defense, and as a special move Thundershock bypasses Metapod's Defense Curl. So in theory, Pikachu has a significant advantage over Charmander for this route. The only two issues are the additional wild encounter at the start and the fact that you have to bash your way through Blue's Eevee during the lab rival battle, which from my experience is a harder fight than any of the matchups in Red and Blue. Oh, and the unskippable catching tutorial. Well, so much for the fire lizard's time to shine. Sure, it was faster, but it was faster for reasons unrelated to the starter itself. If Pikachu was a starter in Red and Blue, it would be faster than Charmander for this run.

The flying phone is a game mechanic if you go down a cliff while navigating. I believe the game also sometimes lets you warp back to the top if you didn’t intend to drop.
@MattTOB618 Жыл бұрын
37:56 Just a note: that's not Blue, that's Trace; Blue shows up later, and, while he isn't _as_ mean as the original, he's still clearly the same character. 50:01 The Rotom Phone catch thing is the game's way of saving you if you fall of a cliff while not on your ride Pokémon. So it's only used as often as that happens.

Great video but I have a quick question. In HG/SS, do you have to beat the sage at the top of Sprout Tower before you can battle Falkner? If so, shouldn't that be counted as necessary to do before you can reach the gym? Would probably push the time to over 30 mins if so.
@ChuVsMe Жыл бұрын
I think you’re right! Would definitely push it over 30 - there’s a few trainer battles in there too.

@dethtroy2185 Жыл бұрын
19:02 unless your only counting how long it takes to get to a gym in general, you can't challenge the first gym in HG/SS until you've done sprout tower, so that one could be debatable with more time added as a result.
@Exofrick Жыл бұрын
so many comments are pointing out how he could have saved time in certain games by skipping optional things that aren't obviously optional and i'm just here wondering how he mixed up the gen 4 gym leaders and kept calling roark roxanne
@DerNiko Жыл бұрын
I think HGSS should take even longer because, when you first get to the gym in Violet you can't actually tackle it yet, you need to do the Sprout Tower first

Something that would've been interesting for S/V is if you saved after the school, and then you had 3 different runs: First gym First titan First team star member Wouldve been cool for some extra content 🤪
@lqa77 Жыл бұрын
there's actually speedrun categories for those three things, they're really fun because the runner makes a save file right after the school and skips the intro, so they take between 1-3hr depending on the run :)
