I'm 76 this year and still haven't finished the mk1 Cooper S I bought in 1990, so you are a speedster in comparison. Moved house and landscaped an acre, restored a clubman for my son as his first car ( he's in his forties now) and an MGBGT for myself.

It's really good to see you back on KZbin with another video. If it helps, I restored a Mini recently in a single garage and driveway as a retirement project. However I used a new Heritage shell and it still took two years to complete - and I wasn't filming it! So, I am not surprised your restoration is taking a while. Good luck with the rest of the job.

Bought my mini, first year I did nothing. Second year started and completed the entire interior, dash etc… Feeling a bit to pleased with myself I jumped straight in to a full engine and engine bay restoration. That was two years ago this month. Engine is only about 75% rebuilt, not started anything else yet. During that time I’ve changed jobs, bought a new build house that needed a ton of work and completed a deployment. I have decided I need to rebuild the subframes, brake conversion and go back to the car exterior to de-chrome and tidy the body work up. To say I regret pulling the engine out is an understatement. Genuinely getting anxiety about the lack of progress on the car. I’ve promised I’ll have the engine finished and running be the end of Feb (I hope). And then just pray the rest of the engine bay is more about hard work than precision and new parts. 🙏🏻

Whilst I have missed the regular videos, I also understand the time/effort required to make them. I thought of documenting my own Mini restoration but I found I was spending more time faffing about with cameras/computers than actually working on the car, so I gave up the filming. I wish I'd persevered with it now as I have little to look back on. I hope the rest of the restoration goes well, I really appreciate you taking your time to share the progress

Hi Tom. As a subscriber I am ashamed to say I missed this coming in. Your work is really appreaciated and enjoyed. I fear I may have missed update(s) on your house in Wales too so will be looking back as my next job to see if I have missed anything there too. I probably have subscribed to too many channels but I learn from and enjoy them all. I am 73 (a widower for last 14 months) and semi retired only doing 35 hours a week now and spending the remainder of my time doing DIY projects at home, jobs on my cars (and families) and watching you tube videos. Also love visiting grandchildren etc meeting with family for Sunday lunches out. I am in the process of a resto on my late wifes 71 Clubman Estate which we have owned since 1975.

Tom, I couldn't have put it better myself life and work does play a major roll in any hobby and it takes a lot of persistance and time juggling to get the work done. Luckily i have worked on cars since I was a teenager but could never take on a full restoration till I retired. The downside is you have the time & money but your body is old and worn 🤣😂 Do what you can when you can should be your mantra. The KZbin videos should be your last consideration as your the one that ends up with the finished product not the viewers. I know full well how much time you put into the filming & editing as we have discussed this many times but I personnaly think the work on the car is more important than the views. With all the social media around 30 seconds seems to be the average attention span and KZbin seems to be more for people who have a genuine interest in cars and repair work. How many channels would be Dumped if there was NO money involved. Cheers Dave

Loving this video! i had wondered where you had dissapeared too. you and a few other diy mini builders gave me the courage to get out and record my mini goings on. So i thatnk you for that. I opted for a full floor/crossmember/inner/outer sills on my 850 build and it was aigame changer! very scary cutting all the structure out but such a easier and nicer overall job. I also feel your pain with the editing, sometimes its hard enought to get the motivation to work on the car let alone sit for hours editing the video. But i believe its worth it! your inspiring people to get stuck in! so thank you for that! Looking forward to the next installment. Keep doing you!

Tom I don’t know what to say But I get your feeling of pride More importantly it’s putting your stamp on something that you have been able to add to your knowledge and skills As I look back on my life I can always be self critical over what I have got wrong but in the same call I can also be proud of what I have achieved When you finally finish the turd tech and you sell it to a new owner you will be participating in a living book of what you have personally contributed to and built and have that feeling of personal pride of I did that From one aging car owner who also owns and has built or tried to restore a car in the open with no shelter I feel your pride You attention to detail is undeniable and this along with your house project can only push you into greater things Enjoy the time and respect Take care

I have this to do on the offside . The near side needs an entire quarter so im leaving that for now Im thinking I might start the quarter repair now whilst it’s cold as 😂 also keep the air line about to cool off the weld

Tom , instead of cutting out the bottom of the quarter as you said , because you have had expansion of the panels when welding which causes your “bounty panel” when pressed, learn how to shrink it and planing it with a hot torch flame , there are plenty of videos on KZbin explaining how to , as you said you want to learn and give things a try , it can save you a lot of work re doing it all And any chance of a sticker or am I too late TCR TV

It’s something I have thought about dude, but I think with my juggling so many plates at the moment I’ll stick to what I know and just cut it out and start again 💪🏻

There’s no garuantee that putting in another repair panel will make the panel flat. There are a few ways of flattening out that ‘oil can’ bulge, you can shrink it, or you can crease it… ie put a tiny swage line near the weld, and then dress it flat.. that swage line can be easily made invisible with lead loading, or just a smear of filler. You might also be able to dress down the seam at the bottom with a blunt bolster to stretch the main panel. And use a flatting slap tool to dress it right. All this can be done before you throw the towel in and cut it. Keep em coming…. P.s., it’s a good job you haven’t got kids! Ha-ha. You’re a grafter!
