Before I knew a lot about drumsticks, I bought a pair of Sam Ash logo Vater 5B's at my local Sam Ash store and used them for everything. I don't break stick so these particular sticks lasted 2 years before the tips started to split a bit. I found out years later that Vater's process keeps the stick much stronger than the average maker due to the higher moisture content. I don't necessarily have a favorite brand of sticks, I've used mostly Vic Firth but a bunch of Promark and Vater sticks as well, but I find that each company has something about their sticks which makes them feel unique. I like all 3 of these brands a lot, and much more than any other brand I've tried, but I gotta say that Vater has it in the bag with their standard hickory stick durability, and the sticks have a very comfortable and balanced feeling which never look or feel warped. Great job getting 5000+ seriously heavy rimshots out of each stick!!

I needed this, I have been shredding drumsticks with rimshots lately. A good crack and it splits straight down the middle. I also love that you threw a mic on the snare.

The problem with higher moisture is that it makes them more likely to dry out and bend out of shape over time. It's not a big problem for places with normal-high humidity but here in Sweden were the air it's super dry during the winter, it becomes a problem if they are stored somewhere for a longer time.

Thanks again for the info RE warpage ... cheers!

My first pair of Vaters felt like balsa wood and lasted one night, so good to see they are still around after all these years... they obviously figured things out! I had a pair of Vic Firth last like that last summer, I think alot of the break has to do with how the grain runs through the stick. Fun ending to a fun test guys!
@_Nato774 жыл бұрын
I think that patent pending rimshots counter needs an adjustment, when Dave started playing he did it with the right hand so the final rimshot must be with the left hand but it was with the right hand. He did 1999 o 2001 rimshots? xD Nice video guys! I really enjoyed it!
@Mrcastleskeep4 жыл бұрын
I started using the Vater extended play. They have a sleeve on the stick to protect them from rim shots. The location of the sleeve is a few inches down from where they were hitting. I tend to rim shot about 4 or 5" up from the bottom. That's about where the sleeve starts. They also have a coating above the sleeve that's supposed to keep them from splitting. Hard to say how much difference it makes. These sticks do last me longer though. I tried using Ahead sticks. The tips sometimes will unscrew or split off. If you don't stop right away, you'll be damaging your drumheads. I ruined a brand new head like that once. Even superglueing them was no guarantee they wouldn't come off when playing. Too bad; they feel nice but ruining heads made them too expensive. I've been using box tape to tape together splits in sticks for years. Recently started using wood glue when they split. Then I tape them to compress it while it dries. Stick breakage is a never ending battle....and an expensive one.

Vater makes excellent drumsticks! Definitely a winning choice! However, in my personal experience, I never noticed any major difference in durability between Vater, Vic Firth or Zildjian. Promark and some other major makers had lesser durability, but not unreasonable. There are many flavors of sticks to choose, and durability is just one of the many properties to consider when choosing.
