I had English lessons for years. Then I did allot of stadium jumping and cross country competition. Next I spent some time learning and practicing dressage. Now I'm an English riding instructor. So, for me, it's always been toes straight ahead and definitely heels down.

Not really. That is usually a confirmation issue.

Heavier reins work similar to slobber straps to give the horse that the pull is coming. Typically as the horse gets more responsive to go to a lighter rein because that encourages softness with light contact.

Self carriage but all you have to do is watch how they travel to realize that most don't. That is why the weird gaits

"How long should your rains be?" I would say that it depends entirely on what you're trying to grow. Potatoes will thrive with lengthy daily rain but if you're growing flowers for sale, too much rain will likely result in rotting blooms.
