I've used starsan much older...i was told once it gets cloudy then it's time to make a new batch. Cheers 🍻

Cool 😊 Mine is used up after 6months, so I don’t have any experience with longer than that

I also prefer to have a bucket of StarSan solution, so that it is ready when needed. I make it from RO water, since it will not go cloudy (a least so I was told, I keep it for 1-2 months and in that time-span I see no cloudiness). I will definitely check pH going forward, didn't think of that, so thanks :-)

I tend not to go through that much so I only mix up 1US (3.78l) gallon at a time. I buy a gallon of distilled water and add 6ml of star San concentrate. I too have kept and used it for about 6 months…marvelous stuff.

I do the same. I make 5 gallons and unless it's dirty I keep it for about 6 months maximum. With the exception of my hose, auto siphon, and air locks (that I put right into the bucket) I don't dump any I take out back into the bucket, it goes down the drain.

I should add that I make mine from filtered water (charcoal filter) so it doesn't go cloudy. Distilled or RO is even better.

Except the manufacturers of Starsan themselves, say one hour is the maximum they recommend its shelf life once mixed. Is the issue ONLY the pH , or might some active ingredients bind with oxygen or other compounds and elements to reduce or neutralize its effectiveness?

I know it says that. I think, they have to by law. As long as it it still foaming and the pH is good, it's not a problem. I and many of the brewers I know, have done this for many years without problems

What water do you use?

Many people suggest RO water, but I’ve always just used tapwater. My tapwater is pretty hard, but with chlorine. Chlorine can make it last shorter from what I have read. But as long as it is foamy and pH is lower enough, you’re fine. So that’s what you should look for 😊

I think what they mean is if it's been air dryer it will stay sanitized for one hour and of course that's on average. This does not address the liquid itself.
