TF2 does lootboxes/micro transactions better than a ton of new games 1: the crates are random drops or can be bought off of the community market really cheap (like 3 pence for the lowest and a few pounds at highest) 2: the crates don't effect gameplay as they are cosmetic based or just keep track of your kills (minus the fact that you are unable to trade items and only have around 3 backpack pages) 3: almost any item can be sold on the community market as they have real world value (the most expensive hat is over a grand) 4: when an update contains contracts (e.g. jungle inferno) you were able to play a few contracts in order to get the new weapons but if you wanted a few cosmetics/war paints then you could buy the pass. 5: a couple of items on the in-game store e.g. map stamps the proceeds go directly to the makers of said map. There are also charity events e.g. Tip Of The Hats that has a hat you can buy at any time which all the money from buying it is donated to a charity I think is called "camp one step" which allows children with cancer to have fun last days.

And the things you mentioned for the Sims are sadly par for the course, but recently EA hit a double-boogie by introducing what is literally paid DLC for paid DLC. EA churns out DLC for Sims 4 of 3 different sizes: The big "expansions", some of medium size, and some small ones which usually contain about 12 items and about as much clothing. Now these madlads went and made a small DLC-pack with pet-clothing and pet-items for their Cats & Dogs expansion. *_Literally DLC for DLC!_* 8:30 And that's the worst part about it: "Vote with your wallet" only works if the companies also count missed votes. But they just look at what they have and say "That's not good enough, we need more." As Jim Sterling aptly put it: "Game companies could make all the money in the world, fuck it, they could break the laws of physics and make even more money than is in existence, by the next quarter they'd be sad that their revenue didn't grow."

2 things: 1. Wombat is one funny son of a bitch lol 2. I agree with this, and, some games do Micro Transactions in a good way. Let’s take Train Simulator for example. You buy the game and are given a few routes, locomotives, freight cars, and passenger cars to use. And there is a store page where you can by more. usually locos come around at 20.00, which is a little high in some cases, but some come with extra stuff so it’s understandable. And routes come at around 40.00, sometimes lower. This is understandable because of all the stuff they pack in with it. And they don’t shove it in your face. The most they do is show you 2 new things they’ve released on the right bottom corner of your monitor screen, and that’s it. That’s a case of how micro transactions can work without making you want to throw your computer into a river.

Many games nowadays opt to cut off contents , chop that contents to even smaller pieces and then sell its as paid DLC . One of recent game i played is the hunter call of the wild . While i have no problem paying money for more hunting grounds , but they turn every single weapon and equipment into paid DLC , and those gears are way better than the basic gear in the game . It is getting annoying .
