How quiet is a suppressed shotgun? Well, the media would like you to believe that suppressors/silencers are scary tools used to silently assassinate people, but that is far from the truth. As you see in this video, the Salvo 12, shotgun suppressor greatly reduced the noise of the shotgun, making it more comfortable to shoot, but it is nowhere close to silent. #fightthenoise New vids every week ► SUBSCRIBE bit.ly/SubGouldBrosYT

thats where most of us got hooked i believe. Its so appealingly nasty with a "silent" shotgun. The james bond thing, suit and suppressed pistol, is so neat and clean but a shotgun can never be sophisticated and tidy like that. I dont know why that is so appealing. Guns are bad m'kay

It's funny how this is 100% different here in Norway. I'd guess that 50% - maybe more - of hunters use supressed rifles. Not because they're trying to hide, which would be difficult in any case. But because on a .308 or 30-06, it reduces the recoil with 50-60%. It's just SO much more pleasant to shoot with, and the second shot is also easier because of it.

It does not reduce the recoil at all, not how physics works. It is reducing the concussion from the muzzle.
@jb-cw7mx
@jb-cw7mx Жыл бұрын
@@ryanv1279 Yes...physics is the answer. You can't change the fact that you are accelerating a projectile and good old Newton's laws apply. Taking into account factors like added weight of the suppressor and deceleration of gases in the suppressor recoil is reduced. For a .308 the powder charge is around 40 grains and can be around 20% of the overall mass exiting the barrel. A suppressor slows the gasses escaping from the muzzle which results in less recoil. A suppressor can easily weigh around 1lb and the added weight will also result in reduced recoil. How much reduction depends on a lot of variable and the claim of 50-60% reduction seems subjective. However a lot of perceived "felt" recoil is due to the muzzle blast.

Something I've been wondering about, since I haven't been able to do controlled testing on it myself, is: How far away do you hear a 12ga shotgun, supressed vs. non-supressed? And with "hear it" I mean hearing it higher than a faint sound that could be a number of other things. My curiosity is purely related to noise while training, mind you. Not bothering the neighbours too much.

Permissible Exposure Levels (PEL) is based on a TWA (time weighted average). You would still want ear plugs for the Dose of continuous fire you would be exposed to within a shooting session. If you fired once... then ok. Firing multiple times exceeding 100 dba... wear some plugs.

I shoot 24 gram(.85 oz) Fiocchi Skeet No 9's (Lead) forThe County Skeet Team along with Gambore (Steel) no 9's in .85oz and (Steel).75 oz no 7.5 shot, these lighter loads .85 /.75 are so fast (1400-1450 fps) are so easy on the shoulders the best is the .75 0z NO recoil at all even in my Caesar Guerini Summit but these cycles fine in the SX3 and my Mossberg 930 JM Pro as do the .85 oz.The Kills are fantastic so the heavy loads went out of the window a few years back.As to the suppressors not sure if they are legal here in the UK and to be honest they seem very cumbersome and not practical on a Skeet/DTL/Trap.Keep up the Reviews Guys and remember Size Doesn't always Matter ,well so say us Men!!!

Just to add…134.4db at the ear in 12” configuration. At the muzzle with that ear reading it’s over 140db 100% for sure. A longer barrel 28” 12ga will drop about 9db from muzzle to ear on typical supersonic birdshot What that means is Silencerco claims 137.xx at the muzzle. Then you should see high 120s for readings. What that also means is….they don’t get the readings they claim. It’s over 140 at the muzzle and not 137. Consumers cherry pick data and numbers and fabricate things occasionally. I’ve heard more poor comments from owners saying it’s not great but sorta works and the full length is too cumbersome to use making it’ sorta not worth it. 8” seems to be the best all around compromise.

Anything above 120 dB causes permanent damage. A clap of thunder from a nearby storm (120 dB) or a gunshot (140-190 dB, depending on weapon), can both cause immediate damage.

@nickbaltzer
@nickbaltzer 2 жыл бұрын
Subsonic just removes the sonic crack of the round typically they are not quieter at the ear
@wildrangeringreen
@wildrangeringreen Жыл бұрын
@@nickbaltzer another thing is that both the baseline and the suppressed shotguns were self loading, and that action noise adds a lot to what's heard at the shooter's ear, especially if it isn't a suppressor-tuned inertia or gas system. A manual action gun would have been a better host to see what the actual suppression was. You also notice they showed two standards for noise levels, one for impulse sound( aka one brief burst of sound/ single gunshot) and one for continuous noise (inside a machine shop or on a busy gun range). While anything over 120DB has the ability to hurt your hearing, it's not very noticeable vs normal age-induced hearing loss (until you hit that 140DB threshold). On the other hand, continuous loud noise is incredibly damaging to your hearing, even at less than 120DB. So, going out on a pheasant drive with a couple buddies that have suppressed shotguns is unlikely to measurably damage your hearing, yet going out on a busy clay range very well may, even if everyone is using suppressors.

Do you have any other supressors? I have said I was going to get one for the last few years but just haven't pulled the trigger on it yet, pun intended! I just can't seem to justify giving Uncle Sam a $200 bribe to let me have it. Then there's the price to set up the trust, and the supressors are super expensive for what they are. Check out Rebel Silencers though. They make a .22lr supressor for like $100 and they also have 5.56 and .30 supressors for like $250. I'm probably going to get one from them...eventually. lol.
@gouldshooting
@gouldshooting 6 жыл бұрын
+earl gunman I agree that the paperwork and hassle of getting suppressors is a pain. Until our elected officials change the law it's what we have to work with. We do have a 30cal suppressor and will be getting more this year for other firearms. The good news is at least the trust setup fee is one time, but unfortunately the tax stamp is applicable to every new suppressor. Good luck let us know how you like it! AG

well for a shotgun that is loud but there are silenced guns that are incredibly quiet. to the point where someone in an adjancet room wouldn't notice anything amiss. it all depends upon the caliber, powder load, bullet weight, the gun itself, as well as the quality of the silencer and whether it is integral or attached, plus whether the baffles are either rubber/felt or metal. rubber/felt is the quiet but you have to toss the silencer after or replace the baffles after, metal you don't have to replace but there is an obvious trade off.

toomanyaccounts it's never gonna get that quiet, guaranteed. And there is no such thing as a silenced gun
@toomanyaccounts
@toomanyaccounts 6 жыл бұрын
you have obviously never fired an integral 22lr with the right 22lr load or a welrod pistol or de lisle carbine. give you a hint that De Lisle carbines were fired from building rooftops with thousands of civs going through the street just 30 feet below and no one ever noticed the firing of these rifles over the course of several hours with the rounds being fired into the river Thames. Several thousand shots of 45 acp and no one had any idea that a few dozen people were on the one story buildings firing guns in the middle of one of the most heavy foot trafficed areas in the world. Hell the German Army during world war 2 did a test of captured silenced weapons and the observing officers had to loudly demand why the test which was at night time had not began when the weapons had in fact been fired for a continuous period of time. the Russians developed silent ammo one of whose delivery systems that was declassified was a cigarette holder. you could use the thing to kill someone out in broad daylight in the middle of Times Square or on the subway and no one would notice that the person had been shot.
@thewfmanray6135

toomanyaccounts why would anyone EVER buy an integrally suppressed 22? Huge waste of money. I was addressing actual calibers, you can't "silence" a round that goes more than the length of a football field. Guaranteed
@toomanyaccounts
@toomanyaccounts 6 жыл бұрын
because an integrally suppressed 22 is super quiet and hence effective for varmint hunting or as a snake gun when you are walking your dog so you don't cause anyone around to call the cops when you shoot a snake nor do you damage your hearing or the dogs. plus one of the integral models on the market used to be only for covert ops market but now is made for sale to the civilian market so collectors are interested in picking them up. there was a custom built silenced sniper rifle on autoweapons.com for sale at one point that without the barrel sounded like a 45 acp and it was a 50 cal round. with the barrel in it all you heard was the impact of the round and the click of the gun.

They have everything for the UTG , S&W , and countless others which are the same thing . 2 feed tubes and 1 chamber tube that bangs . If I had a shop I would make something that mimics (mimicry is ultimate flattery ) the Salvo 12( Legally With Rights and shit ) , but is shaped more round and call it the tombstone 🪦. Make singles and one for double barrels . Call it Double Death stones or Grave Growlers . Idk I have vision but no one else 🤦🏽 Come on

I really don’t think this is worth the money. Is this going to make it quiet enough to shoot the obnoxious wrens in my neighborhood that wake me up at 5 o’clock in the morning (EVERY MORNING!!!!) Without someone calling the cops??........ hell no
