One thing that stuck out to me was the idea that people within this system of daily horror kept supporting it and kept doing it because if they stopped or rebelled they would have to face the evils they'd committed. They _needed_ to believe it was necessary or justified for their own emotional self-preservation.

I still think this was the Empire's biggest mistake if only for what follows afterwards. The Death Star's destruction. Since now the whole galaxy knew that the empire was willing and able to cause mass genocide, it turns a lot of heads towards the rebellion. Then when the Death Star got destroyed, it showed the the Empire could be fought against. Wining was a possibility and the Rebels used the destruction and the loss of Alderaan to bring several to their cause. In the end, this is what led to the eventual destruction of the Empire and the rise of the New Republic.

ShadowBrony Late reply but... Your right, despite the horrifying loss of life when Alderan was destroyed, strategically it made perfect sense. While no doubt many throughout the galaxy would've been outraged by such mass genocide, it wouldn't have mattered anyway, why? Because the death star would still be intact, if it hadn't been for the rebels discovering that one fatal flaw. No one, no matter how angry they were over Alderan would've dared risk getting their homeworld blown to oblivion, not until the death star was taken out. *Once the death star was revealed to the public many would've secretly asked the same question; "is it even possible to destroy something so...POWERFUL...is the empire truelly unbeatable?!"* (it wasn't..) Though really it was *more like a combination of a 1 in a million lucky shot (plus some weird space magic..)* that managed to actually hit the power core! *(I mean the exhaust hole was only 2 fricken meters wide and kilometers deep!)* But in the end what could've been is irrelevant, it happened, a band of scrappy, underequiped rebels managed to destroy the death star and the consequences of it changed the course of history in BIG ways.

@@KossolaxtheForesworn You seem to be a Warhammer fanatic. Anyways, what you are saying is stupid. Blowing up your own worlds would only damage you more, and sentient beings have the capacity of overcoming fear you know? That is why all Empires eventually come to an end. It’s like what happened with Robspiere or however his name is written as. He started killing for the sake of spreading fear and keep his subordinates in check, and of course he did it without notice and on the basis of “suspicion of treason” and you know what they did to him? They killed him before he could kill them, that is what would have been the eventual fate of the Empire if it just continued to blow up worlds, as the rest of the planets would have been wary and as more worlds would be destroyed they would adopt the mentality of “if they can do it to one, they can do it to all” and it would have sparked a rebellion even greater than the original rebel alliance. Anyways it’s not like the Empire would have even had much time to destroy too many worlds as the Death Star was kinda slow, and the Rebels would have mounted an attack the moment the Death Star showed up. While you claim that Empires are not built upon idealism your view of how things should have been is much more idealistic than realistic both in the context of reality and of the Star Wars universe.
@KossolaxtheForesworn4 жыл бұрын
@@hexcss9153 this is why the planets must be kept isolated from each other. they should not be allowed to have any contact with each other what so ever. not only would they be easier to rule this way, but if one planet does have a rebellion or even falls, the rest do not suffer nor be any wiser of its inevitable demise when its put back in order. specific trade factions should be created outside of the planets that are in control of bringing products from planets to another, the citizens of planets should never be allowed to leave their planets. let the planetary governments rule over their worlds as they see fit. as long as they remember who they them selves are subjects to, and in case they forget they can always be replaced.
@hexcss91534 жыл бұрын
@@KossolaxtheForesworn If such was the case there would be no central government, defeating the point of an empire, the core of an empire is its centralized government and keeping planets isolated will only create a sense of independence in the people who will also be those be in the military, from low ranking to upper ranking, and when a rebellion starts, those same soldiers and officers will rather stick with their planet, just like what happened in our timeline in the American Civil War. Also one thing is that people don’t like being told what to do by foreigners, and with your proposal which would inevitably result in a strong sense of independence developing in those planets, they will come to view this trade agency you are suggesting as the capital, a distant planet, imposing itself onto them, this is why an empire’s goal is to create a strong sense of national unity, which the Galactic Empire tried to do, but completely wiping out a culture is very much impossible. Your form of government would work much better as a Trade Confederation, but not as a pure Empire

Well, the reason why is because they were brainwashed. Also, who do you think was the officers? It's not like they are going to promote you unless you are 100% loyal. Hell, they even punished you if you considered anything but the Empire as your home.
@Terenin6 жыл бұрын
Do you even know how an Empire operates? All those officers and troopers come from SOMEWHERE. They care about SOMETHING. This shit would be like the US government nuking Ohio for some retarded reason and being really freaked out when every member of the military that happen to come from Ohio take it very badly. The Emperor oversaw and Empire. And Empire has territory, like everything else, and that territory is populated by SOMEONE. No amount of loyalty training is going to 100% prevent sedition and rebellion among your ranks when you start obliterating segments of your own territory.
@Janoha176 жыл бұрын
More than that, any Imperial officers and troops stationed on Alderaan were killed by the Death Star because Tarkin, as on Skariff, did not order a Protocol Thirteen.
@XX-sp3tt3 жыл бұрын
I'd heard the Emperor learning of Tarkin's stupidity ordered any off planet survivors tracked down for obvious reasons, but that might have been old canon.

Canon: The Empire goes totally beserk over the destruction of the Deaths Stars and flies into a vengeance knowing there were a million lives (imperial military) on board. They decide to destroy the Rebel Alliance at all costs. Legends: Star Systems are horrified, shocked, grief-stricken and panicked at the destruction of Alderaan and its four billion people. More and more Star Systems join the Rebel Alliance and Alderaanians defect from the Imperial Military, cause riots in Coruscant and the Rebels use Alderaan's destruction to turn from simple pest to a force to be reckoned with. Canon: Palpatine is disappointed in the loss of the Death Star, quietly demoting and snarking Darth Vader. Legends: Palpatine flies into a rage and cuts of Darth Vader's mechanical arm before demoting him and torturing the weapons' specialist. Which makes more sense?

A few laughed, a few cried, most stayed silent. Reminds me from an interview with Oppenheimer on the A-bomb, where he said, "A few of us laughed, a few cried, but most were silent"------------------"Now I have become Death, the destroyer of worlds" I wonder if that top line was meant to be intentionally similar. Thoughts?

My guess is the ones who survived the destruction of the Death Star, loyalists and soon to be deserters who were horrified and etc, realized that the Empire screwed up. Most who thought that destruction of Alderran would make the Rebels submit finally learned the lesson and paid the price, while deserters knew that this was the beginning of the end of the Empire.

I do wonder what anime adaptations of these manga(s) would turn out, could be awesome! Here's hoping to one day see a full fledged anime series set in the galaxy, far, far away! *I mean, space, samurai/monks, space witches and warlocks, eldritch-esque entities, weird tech, millions of different cultures, faiths, philosophies and species, age of sail styled space battles, good'ole blasters, topped with some good'ole space western cherries* sounds like it's just ripe for an adventure type anime setting! (to list a few examples of material to work with..)

This was the proverbial "flamethrower to the hornets nest" of star wars. The Empire was the best chance of galactic stability, and it was lost because of incompetence, over arrogance and the utter wastefulness of resources.
@darkfireproject21026 жыл бұрын
I thought the Death Star was still a secret when it destroyed Alderaan. A very closely guarded secret. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't send a group of people fresh from an academy just to see it in action, so why did they have a bunch of noobs on a super secret space station.
@soportuguese35411 ай бұрын
The Death Star was also a garrison, a head quarters, a home, all of these things because of the fact it was a MOON SIZED SPACE STATION Thats why you'll hear imperitards go "THEY KILLED FAMILIES" when referring to the destruction of the Death Star.

It's based off of a novel called "Lost Stars". It's a good read, but Nash pissed me off due to his inability to see past the Empire's bullshit. I don't even think he was ever brainwashed, he's just that dull. The rest is good though. It's probably one of the better Canon novels out there.

I find it incredibly stupid that Nash basically agreed with the slaughter of billions of people including his own family. If its a coping mechanism then it clearly doesn’t work very well since he gets angry when someone brings it up. Nash simply can’t cope with that sort of thing forever, he’s going to go insane. Funny thing is that I bet if you sat Nash and Thane in a room together with no weapons and all they could do was talk, Thane would be able to help his old friend come to terms with everything. I find this sort of psuedo-stockholm syndrome ridiculous personally. He knows the Empire is evil, yet he continues to serve it out of some bizarre thought that its all he has left. He has Thane and Ree to help him. All he needs to do is talk.
