Honestly my main issue with season 6 was the whole 'Lucifer isnt there as a dad' I wish there was an explanation for it like 'we have to keep the mortal and celestial realms seperate' otherwise there isnt a good reason Lucifer couldn't even come around for holidays or something
@Koroto3 жыл бұрын
Indeed, as I mentioned, I feel like him just leaving goes against a lot of both what we know about Lucifer as a character, as well as things we've seen before (him travelling between hell and Earth at will etc.) A simple explanation of why he has to stay down there, would have been totally sufficient, it is a fantasy series after all - basically any explanation is valid 😄
@Scheherasad3 жыл бұрын
Rory asked him to "Don´t change me" and Lucifer promised it and he never breaks his promises, he respected Rory´s free will to be the same person Lucifer &Chloe met and love. If Lucifer would have stayed or visited Chloe&Rory, Rory´s personality would have been different. There would be an other Rory but not the one they met and already love.

@@Koroto watch the last 2 episodes again. They explain that they’re in an unbreakable time loop. Rory only time travels because she’s so angry at Lucifer for not being there for her and Chloe. So if he had been there in her life, she never would’ve time traveled, but her time travel created the moment where Lucifer realizes his calling and where he also stops her from murdering Le Mec and giving in to her inner darkness. She and he only become the people they were meant to be without him in her life, which as she says before she goes back to the future, is only a blip in their eternal existence. Now in my head canon, he and Chloe didn’t stay apart the whole rest of her mortal life. I think they pulled the “Rory and Trixie stay with grandma while Mom goes out” and met up without Rory knowing. Lucifer probably watched over all of them too. Rory could just never know that he was there.

Yeah, that’s how I read it as well, but, as I said, than then implies that Lucifer basically does the same exact thing his father did to him and I’m not really a fan of that.
@PurpleGoddess093 жыл бұрын
@@Koroto I see your point, but time travel wasn’t really involved between him and his father though. Rory asked him to promise to leave and keep everything the same. If the roles had been reversed and it was between him and and his father instead of him and Rory, I think he would’ve done the same. Not being abandoned by his father means he would’ve never met Chloe (she might not even exist at all) and I think if the Lucifer of today knew at the time of being cast out what he knows now, he would’ve chosen to keep everything the same too.

About Season 6, even Tom Ellis called it a series of “codas”. In music, a coda is a repeat of a section of a musical piece but with a different ending, kind of like a first and second ending. It was used as one of the methods to save paper, which was very expensive way back before its mass manufacture.

As for Rory versus Trixie in S6: Scarlet Estevez - aka Trixie - wasn't available for season 6 as she had taken a contract for another acting role after season 5. It was thought season 5 would be the end, so Scarlet took another job. She was barley available to act in season 6 so that's why she wasn't present much in that season. Therefore, s6 couldn't finish Trixie's story arc. The cast was surprised when Netflix announced season 6 so the show runners had to weave story arcs to finish the series. Season 6 was less about crimes and more about family ties. EDIT: Ok, you acknowledged the scheduling dilemma with Scarlet. I should've waited to watch the entire video. M'bad! LOL.

At the 15 minute mark, there's more to Dan's death that is so upsetting to Lucifer. Lucifer knows that when a person dies and that person believes themselves to be guilty, the end up in Hell to be tortured in a never-ending hell-loop. Lucifer knows that Dan is not only dead and died trying to expose and undo a wrong, it is Dan's sense of guilt that will damn him to Hell. Those around Dan, before he died, tried desperately to tell him these things were not his fault. Even Lucifer and Amenadiel (who also knows about who goes to hell) desperately tried to help Dan. Lucifer doesn't send people to Hell and he didn't decide the rules but he did assist with punishment. I think these episodes around Dan's death really opened Lucifer's mind to the fact that innocent people end up in Hell. As well as how unfair life is for humans, that an innocent child will have to carry the burden of her father's death. Remember, Lucifer originally harbored a considerable amount of resentment towards his Father's love of such an inferior creation. I think that during the Dan's death episodes Lucifer finally sees humanity.

Loved your deconstruction of season 6. I personally wasn't a huge fan of the ending. S6 was solid up until the last 2 episodes and yeah, the ending kinda negated many things from the previous 5 seasons. I found it illogical on different levels and it was just plain lazy writing. Should've left it at S5 where many things were already resolved or implied. F.e. Dan ended up in hell, but it was implied he could get out of it by getting rid of his own guilt, plus Lucifer becoming God almighty, he would've helped him with that. Maze and Eve were already together, Ella didn't even need to find out the truth, 'cause she was already happy with believing. And Trixie not being on her mother's death bed irked me. They really didn't need to drag this any further, the first 5 seasons were perfect, from start to finish.

I think what really holds this show together is Tom Eliss's performance and the character that he portrays. Though for as much as what is being said in the video, it sometimes tends to feel like a cheesy and predictable drama and most of the characters are a bit two dimensional and predictable to me anyway. I am not sure what changes in Hell you mean. What set up was abandoned? The frozen corridors/hallways have remained the same bleak ash strewn wasteland, though the walkway pavers, uneven columns, views of the different doors, and general echoing grey atmosphere was not as intense in various episodes, but the hell loop contents of each “room” were always like a different world depending on the occupant. I assume that Lucifer’s Dr office, like the purgatory he created for Dan are the same. Now the verbal descriptions (Malcom) of torture changed slightly from season 1 as the overall story arc evolved, but I always thought using what the doomed soul loved against him/her was a variant for those without guilty consciences for memory replays. And some form of physical torture for those who truly had no conscience even deep down and just didn’t care. “There I was, popping out eyeballs like any other Tuesday…” We also never had any view of Heaven before season 6 except for the room(s) where Lucifer landed (and Lee found him), and where Chloe was picnicking with her Dad at the end of 5B. Both the throne room from Linda’s imagination (book ending) and Amenadiel’s coronation were cheesy, and the total whiteness of the in between after Chloe’s final death was confusing, but I loved the restaurant room where Dan and Charlotte were having their desserts.

This leading to this third timeline which we are accompanying through this season. And Trixie wasn’t at Chloe’s death bed because she’s in Mars being president, the writing’s on the wall. I wish I could get Ella and Lucifer singing the funeral song on CD. In Linda's office, I heard underneath Lucifer saying I love Dan, Trixie, Chloe, and the rest of my extended family, including Linda, Maze, and maybe Eve.

I can see Trixie and Rory both at Chloe's Deathbed and then Rory getting so angry at that moment that she leaves the room wants to kill Lucifer. Her anger drives her to the pas and by the time that she comes back Trixie's already out of the room because she's already said her goodbyes and that's why Chloe says "welcome back" or something like that.
@lib9849 Жыл бұрын
I am assuming Rory was sitting in that chair, wearing the same clothes and all when she got so angry she time traveled. She then returned back immediately to the same time she left, the lightning flash and Chloe’s knowledge of Rory’s previous visit in the past the only indication she had left, and why Chloe said “Welcome back.” Not all family members are in the room 24/7, and the immediacy of Chloe’s passing might not have been known. We don’t know what happened right after Chloe’s last sigh and before we saw her in the Whiteness- Rory could have screamed for Trixie who was in kitchen for a drink of water. Though my brother and I stayed in the room with my Mom constantly, sleeping on the armchair and window seat, my brother was in the bathroom down the hall when she took her last breath a little after midnight this past Mother’s Day, May 8, 2022.

I think you might have missunderstood the ending of season 6 or at least i understood it differently. You see he actually chose to stay away from Rory. Why not to harder Rory or anything but so he would find his true purpose beeing the healer of hell. If he wouldn´t have left Rory or only have seen her a couple of times, Rory wouldn´t have been angry enough to travel back in time. This means she wouldn´t have been in danger which would mean he wouldn´t have realises his ture calling. So as you can see it wasn´t predestined, because he chose to ignore rory knowing it might be hard but for an immortal 80 or something years (depending on when chloe dies) would be a blip in the life of an immortal. But without it he wouldn´t be healer of the underworld and helping billions of people. The actually harder choice was leaving Chloe and never seeing here again in here physical form, but he even willingly and with Chloes encouragment chose that to find his one and only true calling. But crucially it all starts with Rory jumping back in time and only because of her extrem Anger so it really is more a one in a lifetime thing (which is why it work better for me then in most other series but i do understand your points). Also for Trixie they would have needed a older actor since Chloe is about 80-100 years old at the time of death and trixie would be at least 60-70 years old (maybe thats why they didn´t do it because it would have been too weird) since she isn´t immortal. Still i also thought it was weird that no one also was there i mean what is with Maze and Eve (although they have the same problem als Trixie) and Ammenadiele and Linda (would be dead probably) they are all friend of Chloe.

Amenadile could have allowed Linda and Eve to be there in spirit. Portrayed any older female as Trixie as president of Mars on video chat all coming in after Rory says that she can come visit ad an angel. I personally didn't like the Rory story because the season wasn't long enough to change her from a brat into a caring relationship with everyone even the Trixie Rory relationship seemed strained. It needed more episodes or a movie with a different slant.

Late to the comments but I've watched the series multiple times now. S6 has hits & misses & def feels like the tacked on season it was. I think the 6th season's biggest issue is that in real time, not repeated watches, the main storylines contradict the established canon on the show & have obvious fixes. 1) Rory is a half angel & knows it. Her entire conflict of not having Lucifer in her life makes no sense as the show had thoroughly established over several seasons that angels that are not fallen can enter heaven & hell freely. And it was established S4 that this was also true for half angels with Charlie. So he's down in hell due to her self's urging? No biggie, go & see him. 2) Regarding the main storyline again, Rory only goes back into time because she self-actualized due to the trauma of seeing Chloe die without Lucifer there. However once Rory figures out why Lucifer's wasn't there & returns to her time, She basically tells a dying Chloe that it's not a big deal that she's dying because she can just go up to heaven & see her. Yeah. So...why were you ever mad Rory??? So Rory's entire storyline makes no sense. 3) Another issue with the time travel plot is that the way they did the time travel storyline, it basically makes this time loop perpetual. Future Rory now knows she told her parents not to tell her about her trip to the past to tell Lucifer to stay in hell & save souls...and help Rory...work through the trauma that she inflicted upon herself by INSISTING He stay absent... ... but fetal Rory was in existence already. Fetal Rory is going to repeat the same bitter life cycle that future Rory had. And then Chloe's going to die again in that timeline, she's going to lose her shit about it, self-actualize & travel back in time again. Lather rinse repeat. So Rory's situation technically never can get resolved. 4) The season was not long. They could have had episodes that focus on: --Telling us just exactly HOW Ella went from investigating strange phenomena in the world, two figuring out entirely all of the celestial identities. --An episode where Trixie finds out that they are celestials. Honestly I feel like Trixie should have been the first character who knew that celestials were real. It kind of would make more sense to let a child in on it first. Because then whenever she's referring to them, everybody else would think she was just being an imaginative child, while the celestials would actually know about it. With her limited availability that season it would have been something to explain. She has to find out eventually since a celestial is her sister. 5) They barely solved any cases this season. Why is Carroll?? The straight lace cop thing was Dan the first half of the first season. So it felt like a step backwards to bring in another cop who's kind of bland but it's going to experience none of the banter with Lucifer because he's not there anymore. Especially since they didn't get rid of the Dan character He's in the majority of the season. So there was no need to have a Dan replacement.

I've never been a fan of using time travel in plots, there's just so many ways it can ruin a story. But I'm also a fan of meeting the future kids so... yeah that's a contradiction. And in this show I really didn't care in the end, I thought they wrapped it up nicely, the characters got arcs that ended in places that made sense and were satisfying, and that's such a rare thing in good shows. The whole GOT feeling of "what the hell just happened?" and "THIS is how you end it? After everything we've been through?", it's not nearly as unusual as I'd like it to be (though GOT was on another level). There are so many series that I love, but I can only honestly recommend watching them up to a certain season, because after a point I fell out of love with it and only kept going out of loyalty for the beginning and a desire to know how it ends. And there's been bits with Lucifer where I wasn't completely in love. But with Lucifer in the end, even though I was sad, I was also happy and content, and most importantly satisfied. I was given a journey that came to a conclusion I could embrace wholeheartedly. I can recommend the whole series and not feel like I need to put some caveats. My love for it was never extinguished fully and that's a really nice feeling. So yeah, one of the best shows out there, go see it in full if you haven't already.

On the other hand, I am a sucker for the happy ending.

The biggest problem with Rory is that she "knows" that Lucifer will abandon her, even though she actually does not. Neither we as the viewers nor her character understand the details of time travel, so there is no way to be certain. Yet throughout the entire season, so many scenes just snap back to "I have no actual reason to believe it, yet I KNOW you will abandon me" which is just boring. It straight up kills any interesting dialoge.

I disagree about season 6. In season 5 he lost his father, so in season 6 he can not default on blaming his father, his mysterious ways, Michael, his Mother, any other angel, etc. He is actually free willed because he will be God but he is not God yet. His father is a rule giver and he is a truth teller. As God is bound by his own rules about free will, Lucifer is bound by his own words as a truth teller. And this recall an early episode in season one IIRC) when Chloe tell him sometimes doing the right things for your children is not the same as make them happy. And Lucifer sacrifice what his most important desires (being with his child and Chloe) for the good of his child (and with the assent and support of Chloe). The time loop put him in the same spot his father was: knowing the consequences of his actions and choosing the best for his children and not for himself. Also, without Rory, Dan would be in Hell forever as he would not be able to say goodbay to Trixie or find the cause of his guilt, the store owner would be dead, La Mec would had come up with a different plan to hurt Lucifer and Lucifer would not become the Healer of Hell. The question is how the time loop started. I suppose Rory, before the time loop was established, would have daddy issues like Lucifer. In rage she would had travelled back in time and changed the timeline. And changed again, and again, until the right set of choices were done by all the people involved in the time loop. Then, the time loop become "unbreakable". Not because they can not choose differently, just because they don't want choose differently. The Hell loops are there for mortals. For immortals there are just time loops.

Time travel broke the series. All was good untill this. It was well done but now its all puppet master story since the beginning of time without free will.

Last two seasons, especially last season ruined the show

The problem with this show is that it's quite shallow, even though it managed to transcend the crime of the week formula. It just lacks the depth, nuance and overarching themes that shows like breaking bad, dark, Bojack horseman, the handmaid's tale, peaky blinders and even game of thrones have. Despite these flaws the show is still a great watch and fairly entertaining.

I wholeheartedly disagree. The way Lucifer is portrayed as the quintessential narcissist, is quite an interesting story. He slowly realizes that his attitude hurts others, and even slower that it hurts him, too. And still he relapses regularly, just like people relapse in real life. And also, real narcissists also have some superficial charm that make certain people their “flying monkeys”, which matches Lucifer’s charm. I really loved this analogy and it concluded very well in Season 4, when he realizes, he has responsibilities… exactly when he realizes how much Chloe means to him and by the time she accepts him. Great tragedy.

The last season kind of tainted this show for me. Rory sucks and everything surrounding her sucks. If they really needed her to be in this season then she should’ve actually been trying to kill Lucifer and actually been a threat instead of just a winy teen (lucifer parallels blah blah blah I don’t care). Adam being a generic asshole was kinda disappointing but I love what therapy does to him.
