Kirkman has always struggled to write women well. They are either awful(Lori, carol), tropey(spear chick, Michonne) or good but basically dudes (alpha, Angela, Maggie.) He's gotten better and I can totally enjoy pulp like Michonne or brochicks like Angela but when hes bad HES REALLY BAD. None of the guys he writes are that bad because he fleshes them out and gives them motivations and character - even the villains. But women like Lori and Carol throw fire on the flames, act like wild cards and do ridiculous crap because ??? Plot I guess?

There's definitely a lot you can read into Shane's appearance throughout the whole season, he shaves his hair, his bruising and cuts become more prominent and finally he smashes his own head to bleed over his mouth. Throughout the season in tandem with his downfall he gradually changes to look more and more like a walker as if he's dead. So when he reanimates there is no change and just like when he was alive, he always had to be put down, perfect villain arc

I actually liked Darabont’s writing of Season’s One and Two. Yeah it can be slow for some people, but we get to learn more about the characters that we all grew to love and respect.

I don't know if it's intentional or not, but I like how Dale's character continues to wear summer clothing (his classic floral shirt and bucket hat) while everyone else begins transitioning into wearing jackets and sweaters and heavier clothing for fall. It shows how Dale's character is not going to "change with the seasons" - how he is stubborn in his ways and believes that they can stay the same morally even though the world is changing into a lawless place, and how he's not meant to last.

So in fear the walking dead, troy says the smell of the dead keeps away walkers. Maybe the farm was safe for so long because of the large number of walkers they kept in the barn. This is kind of supported by the fact that a horde attacks soon after they're killed, but could always just be a coincidence. (Either way I personally don't think the writers had this in mind all the way back then. Cool tie-in tho)

The fight scene between Rick and Shane is the best one in all of film for me. The choreography was good, but it was the build up. For more than a season, they were clashing, especially the episodes before there was a clear amount of tension in the air. And this moment was when it became unloaded. Btw, great video

Goddamn, Andrew Lincoln is a LEGEND. He made millions fall in love with Rick Grimes. He’s been so missed. I hope the Rick/Michonne spin-off is what we all deserve and hope for. In the story timeline, Rick has been gone for nearly a decade! I am bummed that they didn’t find a way to bring him back in the final season, but looking at the final season, I don’t even know how Rick would fit. It also seems absurd to me that Michonne would willingly abandon her children for YEARS.

4 weeks later and you uploaded another monster of a video, at almost 50 minutes the amount of dedication you put into this is simply amazing. Very through breakdown of not only the surface that the audience sees but the behind the scenes of all the issues the writers went thru. Season 2 was done really well considering the budget they had. I agree some parts seemed too long and boring, but we got a lot of character development this season. I also like what the show did with the Sophia storyline. It sucks she had to die, but her death definitely shaped Carol, Rick and Daryl into the characters they are now. I also didn't care about Comic Sophia at all

I always looked at Lori's reaction to Rick as less about Shane's Death, and more so in Ricks change. His reasoning on Shane Dogging him, and that we wanted him dead. This is in contrast to who Rick has been, and as we see in season 3 and Loris guilt I think she's equally horrified at feeling that she pushes the situation there. She's not angry that Rick killed Shane, she's in shock and despair at what they've become

What made Season 2 a little difficult even more, but eventually worked out, is that the owners of the Hershals Farm House did not want any walkers within 20-50ft. I don't remember how much exactly, but when doing a tour of Woodbury, and the outside of Alexandria a few years ago during the filming of season 10 or 11, the tour guide told us that the farms owners never let anyone swear in the house, or any Walkers near the house, so the barn was forced, and walkers show up less because of the main place they need to be. They filmed the fall of the farm on a set that was just the front deck and walls of the farm house

I feel like Lori behaves the way she does in the finale for several reasons: 1. She knew Shane would have to die sooner or later, because it became increasingly obvious that he was unhinged. But hearing her husband say point-blank that he killed his best friend was still a shock. (Also the group had JUST had a conversation about if it was right to kill Randall, a stranger, and now Rick has killed the man who was like a brother to him) 2. She was horrified when she found out that Carl was involved, because OBVIOUSLY. Her 11/12 year old son has just had to put down and undead Shane (and Shane was close to Carl as well, like a mentor figure to him) 3. If you watch her body language after this, you can see that she is still shocked and scared at the sudden change in Rick’s personality and demeanor. She holds Carl as if protecting him from Rick’s anger and coldness. If you were in a situation like this and watched your spouse become a completely different person, it would be pretty scary too. 4. After the 8-month time jump, we can see at the beginning of S3 that’s she’s tried to reconnect with Rick, but he continues to shut her out. But Lori continues to support his decisions, and be fiercely protective & loving of him and her son. Maybe they could have done better developing her character and her relationship with Rick, but Lori is not as bad a character/person as a lot of fans made her out to be.

I like your take on it and wish I felt the same way. I can’t lie, I was happy when she died because I hated her guts. 1. She knew Shane was unhinged and pretty much told Rick to kill him, yet practically punished Rick for doing so. 2. I could Kiiind of understanding her being upset about Coral putting down a dead Shane because no child should be forced to kill anyone. However, Coral made his choice, saving his dad, and Coral wasn’t as traumatized by it as one would have expected. Guess he’d already seen enough death so Hey🤷🏽‍♀️ 3. Her being shocked by Rick’s change in demeanor was sooo uncalled for. Especially knowing how Shane rolled. I don’t recall seeing Rick going off on Coral to the point where anyone thought he would be capable of hurting his own child. She was just being mad extra. 4. As far as her trying to reconnect with Rick, she wasn’t trying to be a single mom🤣. I kid LOL, but for real, she treated Rick like isht for doing what needed to be done, and had no idea who her kids father was. And she was incapable of taking care of/protecting herself or her son from other humans OR walkers. Just useless. She needed Rick way more than he needed her. She made me love Carol all the more♥️ I guess I was just over her character and her utter uselessness. She couldn’t fight, she couldn’t shoot, crashed a car with no other real distractions, she smashed the homie and got pregnant during a Zombie Apocalypse. And let’s not forget she constantly failed at her 1 job. One job, Lori! Keep an eye on your son. I swear, the one job that she had she refused to do. So she effectively got Dale killed. Oooohhh I hated her guts🤣

@@NikkiRen - You can only blame her for Dale's death because you are in the audience and have an overarching view of the show. Lori is in among the characters, and doesn't have the level of awareness we do. That's why a particular character becomes the target of an audience's overwhelming hatred and rage, like yours. We see how their actions spread to other parts of the show, but they can't. Also, we have the advantage of being able to revisiting episodes, effectively reliving the experience over and over again. The characters can only live it once, and they can never take back their decisions. By the time Season 3 arrives, it's clear that Lori's found more ways to be useful. In previous seasons she carried out housekeeping tasks, as she and a few others were trying to preserve some semblance of civility and domestication in the quarry and farm. By the third season, however, she's become more of a survivor, and she helps draw walkers to the fence to distract them, she revives Hershel, and she sacrifices herself for an unborn Judith. Whatever she might have done before, and however useless she may have seemed to the group in the past, I think her death demonstrated her priorities perfectly.

I think Shane is as to hotheaded, he would have gotten most of the group killed by trying to attack head on with a the Governor and defiantly would have gotten his head bashed in by Negan if they even would have made it that far. Also Rick was and is a master negotiator, there’s many examples where he was able to negotiate with the villains to either get leverage or get them out of a situation, starting with the vatos, he talked down the situation at first and of course got saved by the grandma but none the less, Rick was a great leader from the start and slowly became more cruel to match the cruelty of the world they were living in.

I love the moment after he kills big guy Tony that he waits and considers firing another shot, foreshadowing the fact Rick knows about the fact that when you die you turn unless your brain is destroyed. That is great foreshadowing, especially if you don't know what is going to be revealed about the virus like most.

Not a criticism at all but technically, Rick wasn't holding Shane's personal gun. Shane threw his gun in the woods to hide it when he staged the Randle escape. The gun that Shane had was T-Dog's that he borrowed to go on the hunt for Randle. But yes it's the gun that Shane was going to use to kill Rick. Love the video!

Haha for sure! But yeah, I definitely remember the first part of the season dragging a little on first viewing, but I think that was largely down to the fact that there was a week between episodes. Watching them back to back is an entirely different story - many episodes from season 2 are my favorites just due to how cooked up they are. For example, I don't think the Sophia twist would ever be as impactful if there hadn't been such a long build-up to it that caught even the comic book readers off guard.

@@Koroto Absolutely agree, on my first watch season 2 Was ok, but on my second watch upon noticing the details and knowing some outcomes, this season was incredible def in the top 5 of walking dead seasons. Man early Walking Dead was so damn good.. just found your channel currently binging through some videos, you have some great stuff here, definitely keep up the great work! Ps: Im hyped to see the All out war analysis eventually because i think it was done way better in the comic, while still having great moments in the Show.

Just to dump my thoughts here: I remember watching the second season and my mom joining me in my living room. We bursted out laughing when the deer scene came up and Carl and the deer got shot. I guess I knew where I got my sense of humor from^^ And I was sad when Shane died cause I felt like there was potential for him to be in later seasons. When Dale died I was offended, tbh. Well, I didn't know that it was the actors idea :/ My hate for Andrea will never die x'D

Hey, Considering your recommendation in the previous video, I've picked up the first book which has 12 issues of the comic! and yes, contrary to my experience with the show, the storytelling and characters in the comic are way better imo. Unfortunately i can't buy the rest because they cost a shit ton but i also picked up invincible by kirkman for good measure! I hope you make one these for that show too!

Glad you enjoyed them! But I guess your in the same boat as me then, I ended up reading a lot of them online (which I really don't enjoy doing), because the price was like 1/5 of what they sold for where I live. I'm not exactly sure, but I think they've released the entire series in compendium form as well, which might make them more affordable. As for Invincible, yeah, I definitely want to do some content on it once I get around to watching it all the way through!

I love the cinematography of the show, as you mentioned. The lone walker is such a great shot. The only thing that gets me about it is there appears to be an error in the episode. On the drive to go 18 miles out, Shane looks to the right and sees the walker moving from right to left. When they're on their way back, Shane sees the walker again, but he's not on Shane's left this time, he's still on Shane's right, and still moving from right to left. He should be on the opposite side of the vehicle (Rick's side) in the subsequent sighting of him, as they would be returning and not driving the same direction in each part of the journey. The other thing that gets me about the episodes in this part of season 2, is the continuity error with Sofia's death. When Rick shoots her, she drops down and lands on her right side, but when they show her again after the commercial break (easier to notice while binging with no commercials), we see that she's laying on her stomach in a different position. I absolutely LOVE the show, but I notice these types of things in everything, not just TWD, and it doesn't affect my love for the the series at all. I'm just hardwired to notice these things. Great video!

Okay so I have seen every episode since the very first airing on Halloween 2010 but I did not read the comics, so I did not know that Otis shot Carl thinking he was a walker. The TV adaptation made sense to me because he was clearly aiming at the deer when Carl got hit. So my only question about the comic adaptation is why would Otis have been shooting at Carl if he thought he was a walker, when I was made to believe that Otis and the rest of the people on Hershel's Farm were collecting Walkers and storing them in the barn thinking that they were sick people that could be cured? Doesn't the whole Arc of people thinking that Walkers were just sick and could potentially be cured take away a bit from the reasoning why Otis would have been shooting at Carl AKA a walker?!? Just seems like a weird plot hole but maybe I'm missing something...?

Good point hmmmm maybe he shot walkers to weaken them and take them to the barn? Or maybe he shot walkers if they were close to animals that he needed for food? Or maybe Otis wasn’t as into the barn zombs as Hershel so when he was alone he killed them? But that is def a good point. I think it’s interesting he shoot’s Carl instead of the larger “zombies” since Rick and Shane are right there
