@Wecanjump He needs the ball or the team needs him to have the ball to even be a contender? We said the same thing to players like Kobe an yet he won multiple championships. I've watched Luka played against the clippers and he was doing everything, but it's hard to do what he does for 40 mins without resting and needing a help. That's why he needs a co-star who would help take the load off him. Even MJ needed Pippen. Kobe and Shaq needed each other. Lebron who is a floor general like Luka needed Wade and Kyrie to help him.
@AveChristusRex7892 жыл бұрын
@Wecanjump it’s his team that needs him to play like that, not him. He learned to play basketball off-ball in Real Madrid as a teen and won everything there by playing that way. Luka will adjust accordingly should the mavs get that 2nd star that every other mvp candidate has rn. MJ himself played very ball dominant at the start of his career until Pippen developed, let’s see how Luka’s career and time with the mavs enfolds

@Wecanjump all but 1? He won 2 rings without shaq. Plus, I'm not comparing their skillset. My point is that they both need the ball. Ofc Luka would have more usage rate cuz he's the point guard. No matter what defensive coverage he has to deal with, he is going to be able to have a significant impact on the game. With the way his career is panning out so far, Luka is on track to be one of the very greatest the game has ever seen.

There are the reps but Luka's vision is SPECIAL. NBA talents can hope to improve what they can with their own court vision and passing opportunities. I'd really enjoy a video where you show some of your favorite examples of Luka's "micro ball-fakes". I've heard Ben mention before a few times how Luka's so good at these "micro ball-fakes", and there was a clip in this video where Luka's highlighted disguising a lob in the pnr as if he's going to whip the ball over his head to the corner. And the cleverness, let alone dexterity to pull that off, even though the defender doesn't bite to the corner (and it still doesn't matter) to pull that off just blows me away. I'd love to see more of that, like slowed down and analyzed to show how Luka's able to create space for himself and others, moving defenders in clever little ways. It's really high level stuff.

The Jokic equation isn't as hard to beat for the Warriors as he's a very good elevator of talent around him. BUT if the talent around him isn't up to par, its a matter of letting him take over and while stopping the rest of his teammates. Meanwhile the Nuggets have nobody great to matchup vs the Warriors on offense. Regarding Luka the Warriors had 2 great foils against him; Wiggins who was on him nearly the entire series and Looney who helped when Luka attacked the basket. Both those guys were able to adapt very well to Luka's ability to stop and go on a dime. Plus Wiggins is as ferocious on the boards as Luka himself is.

@t4d0W2 жыл бұрын
the Mavs are an extreme example with not only how often they run a variety of screens/PnRs but the different angles their ball handler can attack from it. Also its not like the Nuggets can't get 'better' with upgrading defensive talent on wings.

@@t4d0W They've upgraded massively on the perimeter with KCP and Brown, plus they have Aaron Gordon. IMO new age Mavs fans may feel burned by being impatient. Older Mavs fans who seen Dirk's amazing solo career may have a better understanding of the roster building situation because its hard to get the ideal teammate for Doncic eating a load of the cap. Along with Doncic always keeping the floor of the team as a playoff one which makes adding meaningful talents in the draft a lot harder. The 2011 Mavs around Dirk were legit 9 deep in the playoffs that peaked at the right time. With answers on defense, ball handling and buckets outside of Dirk. I don't feel that way with this 2022 roster so its a work in progress.

I love when teams think they have him figured out and the Mavs scheme ways to exploit their "advantage". After four years or so, there will be a point where Luka has seen every single coverage his way if he hasn't already and at that point is where he will become a Champion. He will coach his teammates on what he sees and what he wants to exploit and all they have to do is listen. It's that simple.

1:52 "...are sitting on Luka like he has a live dribble..." Um... he DOES have a live dribble. Sometimes the refs ignore interrupted dribbles, but this is not a close case.

BARKLEY SAID...WHY do you double LUKA...now you see why...
@dusk61592 жыл бұрын
Although when you double Luka your team gets completely blown out by outside open shots (at least when they stop not hitting anything, like the Mavs did in the first period of the Lakers game).

was this the greatest game of all time? what was his game score and PER?
@Smido832 жыл бұрын
Maybe not the greatest if it comes to gamescore (6th highest in NBA history) BUT if you count in the significance of the points (the made bucket after the missed FT with 1 second left) and overall game (1st win by a team that was down 9+ points with under 35 seconds left in over 20 years, the statline was 0 vs 13,884) it is at least up there with Wilts 100 point game and Kobes 81 point game. So for me Top 3 individual performance of all time!

The big question is can a team win it like this, with a ton of Pn'R and heliocentrism? Is it effective enough deep into the season?
@denizg26532 жыл бұрын
Actually, Dallas is the best NBA team when it comes to half court offense. That's why they excel in the playoffs.

Looking at gsw it seems no. 5 above average players are better than one excellent and 4 mediocres. Strength in numbers.

@@denizg2653 They have a half court offense at least against most of the WC in the playoffs. When the Suns couldn't get to their skip passes and get Ayton in the spots, their entire half court offense pitifully crumbled. Which is why I don't buy the Suns after the playoffs last season. Their bags aren't deep enough and when you take that one pet scheme, it becomes a 'how fast can Devin Booker heave shots' game.
