It’s almost like Luke had been training Ben for more than 10 years by then, and sensed that Snoke had already turned him and that he would bring “destruction and death and destroy everything Luke loved” rather than just sensing darkness. You know.. since he says “I had sensed it in him before”, he knew there was darkness in Ben from the beginning, Ben was sent to him BECAUSE of the darkness. I mean there’s also the fact that he _didn’t_ try to murder him, merely contemplated it, but that’s whatever.

Welp.. this turned out longer then expected.. feel free to just ignore this the thing is.... there is a HUGE different between what we in the west understand as "canon" and what Japan understands as "canon" the concept of "canon" dosnt as much exist in Japanese Media as it does in western, its less "canon" and more "continuitys" a later entry in a series can contradict or superseed a previos piece of information entirely, and its not considerd "breaking canon" as its simply on a different continuity then the previos work, gundam is a great example for this, 0079(The OG gundam show) establishes the world, and sets certain rules and events, these rules however are later rewritten/superseeded by the novelisation(which to be fair was the original intension of how the Series should be if it wasnt for needing to sell toys) which lead then into Several SEQUEL stories following THAT continuity, while the Anime has its own sequels in THEIR continuity(which also partialy got adapted into novels in the novel continuity) , these all gets further complicated by the existance of Chars counterattack, a movie based on a Book from the Novel continuity, that was changed during adaption to fit in the Anime continuity, which then lead into the adapation of another Novel continuity work in gundam unicorn, that was also changed to fit the NEW continuity following CCA, Gundam basicly has two continuitys for its MAIN Part alone(aka UC) and that ignores thunderbolt, which is its own continuity within the continuity of the Novels, which are indipendend from each other, This is why in Japan "breaking canon" during adapating something isnt a problem, the anime will have a different continuity then the Light novel, sometimes leading to VASTLY different endings, yet booth are "offical continuitys" HECK i know of at least one Series that has 3 different continuitys coexisting(SAO, Light Novel, Anime, Games) and all three are somewhat or even VASTLY different from each other, contradicting each other constantly(mostly games strongly contradicting booth anime and light novel and Anime slightly contradicting light novel) or at times taking elements from another continuity(anime continuity had some influence on Anime continuity) to add to it You cant do stuff like that in the west as easy.. because we for some reason think that if something isnt "canon" it dosnt exist or is worth Less. What disney did is basicly what gundam did.. it has two continuitys, the "main continuity" aka the movies and TV shows, and the "Legends continuity" but people act like Legends means these works dont exist or dont matter at all, or are annoyed if a character form Legends is adapted into Canon but he isnt the exact same character as he was in legends(Thrawn comes to mind) because suddenly the other version dosnt Exist anymore? being part of a different continuity suddenly makes it worth less? (tbh, i kinda blame tolkin for this.. his work on LotR etc created a world that just "exists" as one piece of work, where everything fit together to build one coherent "canon" so we just assume thats how it should be for media, there cant be a second Canon, or if there is, its worth less because thats how it is) Also the way we release media in the west is vastly different, in japan a HUGE ammount of Light novels where Web novels first, so from the inital version people could read(often for fre) to the first "offical" printed version, there is already one layer of Rewrites and changes(a different "continuity") where events could turn out COMPLETLY differently, or the story just ends differently, creating two versions of the same story, neither worth less then the other(well.. as long as the Light novel dosnt continue after the Web novel in any significant way)here, a book gets released, thats it a book is finished, this is the only version your gonna see form this particular story from the original Author(ignoring sequels because thats a different story) the most most franchises get is a Netflix adapation as a series, or a Movie, so you, at most, have 1 layer of adapation, in japan.. its not uncommon to see a Popular web novel get a Light novel, that light novel may get a Manga, a Spin off Manga, a Spinoff Lightnovel, an Anime, an spinoff Anime, a Game, etc, Star wars do to how its published, expanded and retooled is an anomalie in the west, yet is all to common in japan, it has layers of adapation and subseries that not always work together well.. its one of VERY few western franchises that has so many different itterations and subseries without a big Nuke every so often(Marvel and DC comics as examples)we had layers on layers of "canonicity" we litterly have NOTHING to Compare Star wars to in the west, yet in japan? we have gundam as an example to compare it too, its similiar,(and even similiar in the way that not many thought it would do to well and being saved by toy sales)Gundam and grew into what it is today trough countless sequels(and prequels) books and toys and video games, and it would have long since run out of storys to tell without contradicting itself if it was following one "rigid canon" like star wars (or anything in the west do)(which it does all the time but noone cares do to how its done) instead, it dosnt do canon, it does continuity(and Alternate universes.. which is a fancy term for alternate continuity) "you want to tell a Story about a energy crisis creating 3 Major power Blocks, terrorism and human evolution into a space faring species by having to understand each other?" sure no problem.. create a different continuity and tell that story, it wont affect the other stories. "Oh you want to tell a what if scenario? here is an ENTIRE GAME Series based around what if scenarios", in Japan this is normal(not on this scale though) in the west, its uncommon as all hell, in the west, if a new star wars game comes out that isnt "canon" people would loose their shit(i said new, TOR expansions dont count, the game was canon at release, also its an MMO so its special to beginw ith) sure you can do whatif scenarios in multiplayer or as bonus chapters, but thats it, the main game itself or a Book? it either must be canon, directly adapt the movies, OR be an RTS(RTS games get away with a suprising ammount of being "not canon friendly" funnily enough) or if a new star wars book comes out that isnt considerd canon, at any point in time, was considerd "a bad book" by many because it isnt "canon" so why bother reading it right with VERY few exception(i can remember the 3 What if Comics)? If anything in the west realease and isnt following pre established Canon its considerd "badly researched, and breaking canon" in Japan? if a new Gundam releases that isnt following the main continuity people dont complain,(most of the time) they just see it as what it is a different interpretaiton of the core of the franchise EVEN if it is set in the main continuitys timeframe or even universe(like thunderbolt whitch contradicts 0079) Adapting existing works for Movies dosnt work for star wars as it does for anime, because the way we see "canon" is vastly different from how Japan does it, and even more adapating something and changing it in the process in the west is considerd "bad" at most occasions, yet is normal in anime, this alone makes adapating for an anime WAY easier then adapting ANY star wars legends book for a movie. An example here, one character in the gundam novelisation died at the end who survived in the Anime, the novel sequels follow the version where he is being dead, then got readapted into an anime where they changed it so the character WASNT dead(as the anime continuity was moving along with him being alive) which became then the new starting point for the NOVEL continuation. now imagine that in star wars, Luke dies(and YES this is comparable do to who died in gundam)somewhere, one Book series move along with him being dead, ANOTHER simply started off before he was dead and moves along with him being alive(while roughly following the Same story as luke wasnt the focal point of the story), this one gets adapted into a movie, Luke isnt dead, great, now the First book series continues(the one where luke was dead), but from the standpoint of luke never having being DEAD, aka contiunint from the movie version.

Not only Jacen. Luke´s son Ben intentionally leaked information about the Jedi meeting on Kashyyk to Jacen. What caused him to attack the planet in the first place. Then he actually ADVICED him to target and burn down the towns of the planet (until then they were only setting the forests on fire) All just to come close enough to Jacen to kill him. And then, when he actually tries, he cuts a member of the bridge-crew in half who was standing between them and later never shows actual regret about it. I loved how willingly Jacen accepted Vergere's preposterous claim that he wouldn't fall to the dark side so long as he meant well. Surely Jacen knew enough about his grandfather -- especially after seeing the videos you outlined-- to see that Anakin totally thought he was doing the right thing and meant well when he murdered countless Jedi in the temple. His fall was, after all, because he thought Sidious was his only path to saving Padme. In short, Jacen is a typical teenager: Gullible and happy to listen to what they want to hear while ignoring the rest haha.

@@BattlestarZenobia From my point of view, it's the Jedi and their silly prophecy that broke Anakin more than Palpatine. Palpatine played his cards right and on the contrary, became a stable pillar to which Anakin could turn to if he ever needed it. That's planting seeds before even having access to soil, Palpatine planned for it all along and it still held a huge risk. Sidious never coerced Anakin to betray the Jedi. He just told him his point of view and that the galaxy and the Force work upon points of view, perspective. And then he told him he too uses the Force, but also the Dark Side. Anakin was given a choice: Destroy the Sith and bring light to the Galaxy and potentially have his wife killed in childbirth or... Save the man who was at his side at every step, promising to teach him the mysteries of the Force and save his wife and ultimately, bring balance to the Force.

Post Endor Expanded Universe *WAS NEVER OFFICIAL CANON* story lore, because as Lucas said "for him Star Wars story *ENDED ON ENDOR*... " and what appeared after it were just a FANFICTIONS which he more or less recognized as possible continuation of the story (especially books) except DARK EMPIRE which he hated due literally derailing entire premise of Anakin being the "Chosen One" who bring balance to the Force by eliminating it's Dark Side abomination in form of Mr "Senate" himself. On the other hand, so praised by many EU followers Wong War arc become at the end way too DARK (it's almost become Star Wars GoT esque) to even be considered as movie material... unless Lucasfilm would for the very first time go with R rating for them... which was of course a giant NO GO both for Lucas and Disney... and I think even showing how Ben Solo kill Han was pretty hard to do (and was done on Ford's own demand) and you really expect that they will show Jacen's killing spree among members of his own family and allies?.. that's not happen.

My main thing is that either way, films set after Episode 6 woulda created discord - either from being adaptations of old AF stories, orrrrr doing a variation of those stories, or being completely new. I think everyone kinda knew it was gonna change eventually anyway cuz Lucas was consistently messing with his own franchise lol. He had plans to do his own new trilogy that was gonna be different. I defs would love to see adaptations of these stories tho on Disney+. No reason why they couldn’t do it and just slap a Legends label on it/“what if” like they’re doing for Marvel stuff.

Here’s the thing. Obi Wan and Yoda told him Anakin turned to pure evil and essentially killed when Vader emerged. He just saw first hand how evil he became. But despite the horrible atrocities Vader did Luke still sensed some good in him. That good was the love still in him for Pademe. He never stopped loving her regardless of how evil he became. The beauty is it was his love for his son, his boy he never new was alive, that was stronger than the Dark Side and turn a Sith back to the light and bring back Anakin. He sacrifices his own life to save his son, the opposite of what a Sith would ever do. Sidious, made a critical mistake by thinking he could turn Luke and have him kill his own father, but his biggest mistake was his Arrogance in thinking he had such a control over Vader that he’d stand by and watch him kill his son.

I had mixed feelings on the Legacy comic era; on one hand it was an interesting premise on the other I felt it compromised any new Legacy stories in the novels: since events in the novels would have to fit events in the comics set 100 years later, thus limiting new possibilities. good question: my guess would be two fold 1) the space around the sanctuary moon is crowded, between the shield, construction ships, supply ships and security, its probably quite a cluster, and using a smaller, "standard" size ISD is probably easier (plus logistics, the SSD costs more to move), hence why Vader debarked the ISD in his shuttle while still several hundred/thousand kilometers away from the DSII 2) security - they are bringing the second highest ranking, and highest ranking people in the Empire to the DSII and while Palpatines plan is to let the Rebels find out, Vader doesnt know about this plan yet, and so a shuttle flying in from a regular ISDII is more mundane and less identifiable than Vaders flagship flying in system and a lone shuttle departing it for the DSII

I love this, not just the lore presented here but the video itself. I come back here every once in a while, cos I think it's one of he first I watched here. Idk, but you not only managed to elevate Dark Nest even more in my eyes, but this is perhaps my single favourite video of yours. You should do more videos like this again!

I remember reading these books as they came out and I absolutely loved them. The fall of Jacen Solo to Jania becoming the Sword of the Jedi.

i listen to the legends audiobooks in the chronological order for the second time, and not so long ago passed the dark nest trilogy, waited for that moment when R2 shows the recording of padme and anakin, but its not mentioned. the audiobooks are sadly the abriged version which means it only happens in the book..... damn it!

I knew this was going to be pretty emotional, but wow they really sat down these characters with what happened in the prequels and I mix them grapple with what took place as humans would. Bad ass! I should check these books out.

The way you framed the time period that the content was released was really well done and is something that separates you from other Star Wars Lore-keepers. Seriously, it's really important to understand the context of the time a piece of writing is published, thank you so much for shedding some light on a time I wasn't old enough to recognize or properly understand (when these books originally came out I was no where near mature enough to understand the gaps they needed to fill).

Appreciate the Dark Nest/Legacy of the Force content, probably the two series I know little about (aside from the parts about Mara's death and Jacen's later death).

Finding out that this is in the Dark Nest trilogy blows me away. I’ve gone through so much of Legends with the Audiobooks and some of the older ones are abridged, I can’t believe they’re THIS abridged that I never knew about this.

forerunners at peak beat any galactic empire, by nature of them having the halo array, which kills an entire galaxy at once. this of course means you can really counter any argument for 40k by saying "but everyone in the empire gets killed in one blast." the only chance they have is if they can manage to destroy most of the array before it gets fired, which is possible for sure, but highly improbably, even with your time shenanigans. and then we need to consider the fact that the forerunners were actually a much larger empire. there is evidence to suggest that they were colonizing a second galaxy, both meaning they had ftl to do so, and were big enough to want to travel that far out.

I had the idea that the Emperor removed or blocked the living force from Padme since she was in pain the droids could not explain being separated from the thing that binds the galaxy together for the first time could be a traumatic way to die and as her Force strong children were delivered she lost all contact with the Force. The Emperor needed her dead to consolidate his hold on Vader. Just my 2am thinking.
