Everyone is so quick to say Liverpool were bad but I really don't think they were that bad. Trent had a real stinker (not just defensively, he couldn't land one of those superstar passes to save his life today) but I just think United were sincerely good? They defended well, their CBs largely got their timing season, choosing the perfect moments to step out of the backline and make a challenge. Bruno was sensational, their attacking patterns were good, Diallo great again. I think it's really unfair to just act like Liverpool were shit - they've put in this level of performance several times this season and won. They still created some really good chances. United were just able to compete in duels (something that Liverpool haven't excelled at all season)

I agree. United have routinely lost every 50/50 ball and every duel in most games this season, but today they were more determined than the Liverpool players to win everything and it showed. They were quick to smother any attacker that got near the box and were mostly very calm in possession. Liverpool weren't great, yeah, but it's fair to say that United had a hand in that.

No mate Liverpool were dreadful. Trent, jones and Diaz all had their worst games this season combine that with Robbo being poor as he has been the whole season and konate struggling today due to just returning from injury and having to do his best to save Trent who had not just one of the worst performances I’ve seen from him but one of the worst performances I’ve ever seen from a footballer in the premier league and that’s no exaggeration. Thank you for giving Bruno his flowers. On his day, he is genuinely world class (if only it was every game lol). United's midfield did very well to combat and even outperform a very energetic and intense Liverpool midfield. And, United actually outran Liverpool in terms of distance covered. When was the last time this team has done that to any team, let alone this Liverpool team?! As Amorim said, that performance is the new standard and anything less is unsatisfactory. This has to be the start of something for United.

@@mahad06 In my opinion CAM is the easiest posting to play in. All you need is vision. You are not required to defend and shield the CB or cut passes. You are not primarily required to score goals. KDB is excellent because he defended, beat players, created chances and scored screamers. Hazard was master creator and scorer. Bruno is a good CAM in an average team. You can notice this when he played for Ten Hag. If he played ahead as 10, he uses to have games where he could do nothing. And if he played deeper, he started hitting basketball like passes, pinging in the wings for Rashford or Antony to run into. He did score few screamers, but they were few. I feel Amorim also doesn't know where to play Bruno. This is the first game that Bruno was influental as left sided no 10. I bet Amorim will mould him into Ugarte's partner in coming seasons.

@@inahole2678 Sure, but the way Man United went about the game always made that quite likely; we won the xG battle in this game more by having a thousand rubbish chances than four or five excellent ones. Part of that has to do with Man United being defensively disciplined of course, but that's the part of their tactics today that any team that wants to sit back can replicate, and if we're as rubbish at breaking that down as we were today, then frankly we won't win the league, no matter how much Arsenal and Chelsea also don't seem to want to win it.

Great breakdown. Did think it was telling that the player that is always getting stick for being the most erratic (Bruno) was the one telling his team to calm down in possession and just generally directing traffic between the midfield and attack. He took an extra touch and just beat a man when before he'd be looking for long balls into the channels. Also telling that this is the performance United give after Amorim actually has some time on the training ground with them. 6 days between matches this time around when he hasn't had more than 4 since he took over. Should make for an interesting cup fixture next weekend at Arsenal.

I'm very disappointed by this Liverpool performance. It's like they didn't learn from the two OT games last season. We didn't win there because of individual mistakes and letting the game get too open and end to end. EXACT SAME THING TODAY. Where's the control that Slot implements? At 2-1 up, should've slowed the game down and let United push up and leave gaps in behind. Credit to Man U tho. Slob was a big miss the midfield. Jones playing a deeper role eliminated he’s natural game and he became a passenger. Slob’s energy would have provided quick turn overs and the pressing that we needed. Jones would have been perfect alongside him instead of Macca. United were aloud too much time to pick passes in the midfield and Dom’s pressing alone would have disrupted that. Jones would be able to play in the space he wants and knit play or it would leave Slob space to drive into which we were lacking. Gutted with the result but if it means that teams have to change their shape and philosophy in the hopes of a draw then I guess we’re doing something right. YNWA

I think Martinez is one of the players who has struggled to adapt to Amorims system. He's a great player and when the whole squad is on the same wavelength the individual qualities will come through. What I think they will all need to do is keep the same level of confidence and concentration when they are playing against teams who set up to disrupt the 3-4-3. The more the back 4 (including Onana) play together the familiarity of that base will only improve and that's where everything comes from. Ironically,Maguire has been the most solid in that system.

I feel Liverpool made a tactical mistake in the second half swarming out trying break United down. Not sure if it’s the players’ mindset or Slot’s part. I remember thinking at the half time United did a good job, but they’ll probably crack somewhere around 70‘ if Liverpool kept on the pressure. That happened too many times under Ten Haag. Instead, Liverpool decided to open up the game, and that suited the United players well-it’s closer to how they did well in some games earlier in the season. Fernandez had a great game, and I’m not surprised Garnacho had a decent showing too since he always likes this kind of game. Amorim finally made the United team defended successfully for 45 minutes without falling part, but the offence was still not there yet, and as a result the game still felt like it’d eventually ended up a 1-0 Lieverpool win, maybe 2-0 if United fell apart after the first goal, or 0-0 if Liverpool was unlucky. For whatever reason, Liverpool decided they want to change things up to overwhelm United, but that ended up solving Amorim’s offensive issues instead.

I don't think the 'expectancy to spank' Utd would have got to the team. They're elite players with elite mentalities. It was the same situation last season, with the same players and a similar result. I very much doubt their memories are that short or that their mentality is that weak. Fernandes scoring from near the halfway line isn't something you just forget about. As Amorim spoke about in his post match interview, I think it has more to do with Man Utd players only being able to motivate themselves for big games [+ rain adding chaos factor + TAA having an absolute stinker].

But a penalty is such a harsh price for touching a ball that’s come off another part of your body from inches away onto your arm. Also no VAR check (or Sky replay) on a Liverpool handball from a cross from Amad after a corner.

13:19 No Martinez was frustrating because Mainoo and Dalot just don't know what to do. Martinez acknowledge that half space the whole time. Martinez change quickly know how to cooperate with Bruno right away. Pass to Bruno and move to half space dragging the defender with him. 14:03 Mainoo still don't know what to do. He should have moved diagonaly to the inside, with martinez create a 2 vs 1. Bruno clearly want to pass to Mainoo, it's just Mainoo still don't know what was going on and was already walking in frustration. Then Martinez SNEAKILY MOVE UP. WHY? Martinez WAS NOT OFFSIDE AT ALL. SO WHY? It's clearly Martinez want to save that half space for later. HE KNOW! HE KNOW! Martinez is a libero use him as such. He is not suitable for CB in a long run.

James loves Trent so this will be interesting… I think Madrid are playing an elaborate April fools prank or they’ve lost their minds. Chap’s not even the best right back in the Liverpool squad and if you don’t let him have a mile of space and a year to pick out a pass, he invariably offers nothing. If he hasn’t been found out as a fraud already, take away Konate and Virgil covering him defensively and it’s time to get the popcorn.

Can we talk about how Darwin Nunez is allowed to completely smash into De Ligt without even thinking about the ball and not getting sent off? He did exactly the same in this fixture last year and somehow he gets away with it... Can we talk about how United never get that penalty? It's happened against us so many times and it's never given.. Literally proven in this game as the same situation happened just a few minutes before Liverpools penalty... Can we talk about how Maguire gets booked for a perfect tackle? Can we talk about how Trent is allowed to take a throw in 30 meters away from where it should be taken for Liverpools first goal? United were robbed. Refs and Michael Oliver clearly hate United...

I think it isn't a Trent thing it's more that Liverpool as a whole struggle against good 3 at the back 2 full backs teams, dalot was having acres upon acres of space which is hard for trent to cover, plus konate wasn't able to slot into his rcb position to cover for trent as that will just leave van dijk dealing with 3 forward players of united all alone as robo was stretched far out dealing with mazrawy, missing szobo in this game especially was big I think a mid of him and endo and gravenberch would've suited this game more, bradley should've started, i think the best approach was to set up as a 442, our normal back line but with bradley as a right back, play trent as an rm, szobo could function as an lm, gravenebech and endo to deal with ugarte and maino, and play darwin an salah as strikers with salah having the permission to roam around, but nonetheless we learned, what is more concerning is that we could face inter milan or atalanta, those teams are elite, and also opt for a similar system to man united's.

Amad, hojlund and garnacho need to bulk up, both of them have speed and skill but once Liverpool defender give them body charge they tend to lose the ball. Let me give my take. 1) Bruno has vision and stamina. He doesn't have the skill to beat a player or speed to outrun them or protect the ball. He will look good when defensive structure is holding and he doesnt need to remain disciplined and can roam around and have runners behind eg in fastbreak team (OGS, Ten Hag). We need someone to be a mix of Mainoo + Bruno next to Ugarte. Mainoo lacks vison for a through ball, Bruno lacks discipline to play as double Pivot and is not an efficient ball carrier. Amorim would have played him there had he been not ill disciplined. 2) For first goal actually the pass was on for Martinez off Mainoo, but Bruno held the ball. Had it not been a goal, I am pretty sure you would have criticised that. Both of our goals had an element of luck. 3) What actually changed was Dalot's advances created space for Bruno to have some time on the ball. In other games because Dalot was not moving forward the defenders and CM were able to shut down Bruno with ease. Leading to the return of frustrated Bruno. Final take Attack needs to click for team to defend better. At the moment the forward like looks out of sync.

Bruno's ball carrying yesterday was actually fantastic. He had a situation where he dribble through a field of like 4 players yesterday and progressed the ball in the second half. And it wasnt the only time. And t say both our goals come from luck is down right poor analysis. The first was an overload, good running, quality ball carrying, a devastating reverse pass and an emphatic finish. 2nd goal is one v one quality delivery and good finish. And in fact I'd argue Liverpool goals were more lucky than Uniteds. They got a penalty. But even then our goals weren't luck it was out repeated pressure on Liverpool that caused them to lose their shape and confidence in their positioning and system which created gaps. The goals came because we created some very good situations and put liverpool in doubt

Trent performance was poor. If not for the accurate crosses that he sometimes make, he has negative contribution. When he is playing, others like Gravenberch or Konate need to cover him. So I wonder if he is really that great. He is overated and defensively a weak link. Time to look for long term replacements for right & left back.

the second goal was made by rasmus 10,000 th diagonal run and dragged defenders for amad to run onto garna great ball. whole team starter to subs played great bruno, ugarte with rest were brilliant . united deserve result i thought 2-1 but 3-2 would have been better. was a trap game it screamed it. liv rolling and united sruggling but lfc competition all dropped points , bruno and ugarte back rested with actual training time to mesh. with bruno its discipline and maturity issue never been ability hes marvelous player. never been leader though as he plays to level of competition its easy for him talent wise and why he frustrates . on national team or say squad like city or munich hes perfect addition to create danger from half chance. being steady leader who doesn't abandon team concept when frustrated has always been issue and deserved knock on him. now he has a coach who knows him his abilities and weaknesses well enough to demand more and get his attention . could be great from him and team because his talent is top of the top but mentality hasnt been but hes like modric physically he could perform well into 30s hes like a monk a true football junkie if his on field habits annd discipline match his off field he could really be immense. amorim to thank if so because every portugal fan or portuguese know his potential. onwards and upwards i hope!
