How Managing Forests and Using Wood Benefits the Climate

When we sustainably harvest trees, we can make them into wood products that store carbon in buildings long after the trees are harvested. That’s because half the dry weight of wood is carbon.
And when wood products are grown and harvested close to home, we're avoiding the emissions that come with transporting wood from other countries, often from places that don't share our high environmental standards.
