@@ryszardsikora6894 my point wasn't that Pep outclassed inter tactically, but to point out that Xavi understands the game and knows how to play it tactically(exploit the opponent) not just beautifully. @@ryszardsikora6894inter wasnt able to create anything in the first half at all, City gave the Ball away a few times and was sloppy probably because the pressure was too much and because of the enormously long Season they all had. Then they held on to their slim lead and Inter crossed into the Box a few times but ederson was really good and lukaku really poor. No one of those Teams was really better in my opinion.

@@chidinmaokwuosa1030 2 trophies are good but not good enough if they don't include the Scudetto for competitive and economic purposes, and don't get me wrong, as an Inter tifoso I'm with your sentiment but from a higher up perspective is not enough, the season was rough for him specially the first half of the Scudetto race. To win champions league you need luck and not to play well. Man city realised this...
@pozsoz
@pozsoz Жыл бұрын
For me this was a perfect closure to the past 12 years where Pep has been criticized for not winning the Champions League. His 3-2-4-1 was being nulified by Inter's tactics (which to some extent reminded me a lot of 2010 Inter, but without the offensive cunningness)...and then that 3-4-3 with the diamond in the center was like a flashback to his days with Cruyff where he played as a pivot and was exactly what City needed in this specific match, it was kind of epic because its probably one of the most risky formations you can play especially in a UCL final, but they went for it. I like that at the end of the match he was very humble and admitted they did things well but also were lucky to have won. I also like that 12 years have passed since he last won it and football has become very different, from scouting using data science, to tactical evolution where practically every team plays positional play, so it's like Pep having to play against his own influence, for me he is the best manager ever.

City didn’t play that well and that’s quite normal for finals. Like kdb said it was 50/50 it was never going to be an easy game for them. Pep's tactics was Spot on. City players weren't just able to execute it. They were nervous and it is a system they haven't used much, so they felt strange. This is why I will say, Pep's Bayern and maybe Pep's Barca were had better personals as they were tactically flexible much more than this City side. But in the end thank God it happened like this. I see Pep using this system more often next season.

Am i the only one who thinks that city had tactical superiority in that match but the players were mentally shaking (zero risk passes) ??! Also inter milan's press scheme was not effective and in every minute of play there was a free city player in the middle?
@lobachevscki
@lobachevscki Жыл бұрын
Yes, you are the only one. City was completely dominated by Inzaghi's scheme. Inter ended the first half with more shots, shots on target, corners, interceptions and possession in City's field. The reason you didn't see risky passes is not because they were 'shaken', is because Inter's pressing and thats also why it looks someone is free: pressing requires multiple parties over a player to cut pass avenues but that means naturally leaving one behind, the thing is that player will never receive a pass because of the pressing. You were watching another game. I do agree that City's players were nervous specially the first 25 minutes but that wasnt the only thing.

I don't think Inter "dominated" City as many people are saying. Their pressing was impressive but City has more than enough quality to play through such systems. The thing that held City back was that they got really nervous and it was clearly visible in their passes. Inter's relentless pressing only exacerbated this to some extent.
@lobachevscki
@lobachevscki Жыл бұрын
It was the other way around: the nerves exacerbated the pressing from Inter. City was completely dominated to the point the only difference was, indeed, the squad itself. City has better squad to take advantage of mistakes which is what happened and it is also part of football. If a team comes down to its individualities to win, although valid, it is a clear evidence they were dominated. The dominated doesnt need quotes, even Guardiola said it himself.
@lobachevscki

@lobachevscki
@lobachevscki Жыл бұрын
@@nqlhai Or Haaland at the beginning of the game? It doesnt matter, assuming the xG and the rest of the stats i quoted somehow stated the same the fact remains City was completely dominated even if the game ended 3 - 0 on their favor. Deceiving scores do happen often in football, from disastrous referring to teams sitting in the back for counters, nothing new about it. City had a superior squad to take the chances on any crack Inter could open, which again, is what happened. Nothing wrong with that, that's football, they spent money for a reason (legally or not, that's to be determined). Also, in a one way match luck is a factor and teams and managers know it, this time finally luck was on City's side. Nothing wrong with that either.

Pep didn't want to loose the game early thats why he played Akanji, Kyle Walker would have given him added attack from the back bur that wasn't in the Tactics. Inzaghi matched him tactically, I felt like pep wanted inzaghi to take the bait down the middle and made it difficult out on the wing. But doing that would make it easier for city to recover and get quick ball movement they way they like. So inzaghi chose a difficult path but allowed them to insure his team to return to a low block in a 532 a lot quicker , which almost paid out. Seemed like 1-1 draw would had been fair to how both coaches canceled each other out. Pep teams chose to attack in a 3-1(single pivot)4-2 {or 3-5-2 you could say} which would enable him to try to break that back 5-3 2 block and but also if things got out of hand they could mold into a 442 which canceled inter. Tactically it was a great match both coaches went at it great on the board.

I feel like conventional 433 with overlapping fullbacks and a DM dropping in-between CBs would've been a simpler and more effective way of exploiting Inter's 532. If they had attacking FBs like Davies or Theo (or even Cancelo), it would've been much easier to carry the ball from the back line. City don't need that kind of overlapping FBs for 90% of the games they play, but occasionally there will always be games like this. Pep is an extraordinarily creative manager but I don't think he has fond a solution to this chronic dilemma yet.

What I got from this match is how stubborn Guardiola is with his so-called philosophy. It’s remarkable how many chances Inter got to score following Rodri’s goal. It reminds me of Ajax when The completely bottled a very comfortable lead against Spurs. City were insanely lucky when they should comfortably controlled the game after.

Inzaghi out played guardiola. If there was a true genius on the final was him. Competing against an all-powerful oil state club with limited resources like Inter has it's impressive.

@@derrickgrey6680 well i hope football all over europe becomes more equal in terms of spending power. It doesn't make sense to me having teams with astronomical budgets against others forced to sell their assets just to get a break from Uefa
