I'd like to build upon the armor, I have a theory as to why they always hit his armor but never the fleshy bits of him that's exposed, the armor is quite complex inside as we've seen him working on it. So I like to think the armor supports a systems that shoots bursts of strong magnetic waves at incoming projectiles either to push them away from hitting him or to home them in to hit the armor dead on. It also supports mass-damping technology allowing him to fall from great heights and to be hit by giant animals and sustain minimal or no damage.

I suggest one more property, a bit less common - superconductivity. Blaster bolts consist of moving plasma - moving charged particles generate a magnetic field. The same field is used to help contain lightsabers shape. Magnetic field interacts in a very peculiar ways with superconductors, so if my assumptions are correct - produced in the beskar opposite field will dissipate blaster charges and stop a swing from a lightsaber. Essentially - it doesn't need to deal with them if they never reach an armor in the first place, stopping in millimeters above it.

In your analysis I think you are right, and I will explain to you why. In Rebels season 4 we are introduced to the Imperial Anti-Beskar prototype weapon, nicknamed "The Duchess". This weapon takes advantage of all of the strengths you noted about Madalorian Beskargam, specifically the reflectivity, heat transfer and dispersal, and the mobility. The Duchess was an arc generator, which meant it wasn't light that could be reflected. The weapon was designed to have the arcs seek out beskar that made up Mandalorian armor and attack it directly without targeting, likely through some wavelength calibration. Once contacted the weapon would deposit enormous amounts of energy into the element, superheating it and vaporizing the warrior in the armor before disintegrating the armor itself. Truly an elegant weapon.
@kylegesin71784 жыл бұрын
And that's kinda like something from a fantasy book I read a while ago called the dwarves. In it, they end up making this magic armor that can basically fully resist any magic. But, the way around it, is someone just keeps attacking the armor wearer with magic that creates heat. And even though it doesn't hurt the armor any, in this case cause magic, in mando cause of reason stated in video, it would still raise the temp inside. So eventually, it just cooks the person inside it.

@liquidminds4 жыл бұрын
If you look into the initial plans for jar jar, he actually is pretty cool. Just that he was hated so much after Episode one, that they changed the entire story. They even invented Doku, just to avoid making another jar jar movie. But the initial story would have been a lot better and the reveal would have been a lot more intense than the "I'm your father" reveal in the originals. But because of the fan-outrage, they opted for a remake of the old story with new characters in a "history repeats"-trope, instead of giving us Sith-Lord Jar Jar as the true villain. Imho, after all we went through with Jar Jar, having him turn out to be the villain would have been very satisfying. But Jar Jar is a force-weilder and there is plenty of evidence in the movie. He can be seen using the force on multiple occasions, hinting towards the reveal. Jar Jars voice actor even confirmed that there were plans in that direction. There was literally system to the madness xD

Another reason that it is so good(that is completely fictional at least for now) is an inertial dampening technology. This technology, while never explicitly stated, is probably there. It would be necessary to allow the people inside starships to exit hyperspace in one piece, due to the rapid deceleration that occurs. If it was implemented into bescar armour, it would take the energy from a blaster bolt and would be able to spread it out across the armour, lessening the amount of force in one spot.

We know their ships must have some form of it, or the acceleration would kill the pilots. It would also allow the mandalorians to take hits that would normally kill, or severely wound someone not wearing beskar armor, including the force of being hit by a blaster, or a blaster rifle.

A point of order on your last concern, the inside of Din's helmet actually acts like a HUD with a full view of the entire frontal cone of normal vision. Potential spoilers for Chapter 10 (S2: E2) below: * * * * * * As Grogu shows the Mando that the Frog Lady had left the ship, Din kneels down and we get his POV. It shows the residual heat left by the Frog's footsteps and cool temperature of the rest of the frozen landscape on Maldo Kreis. As his head turns to follow the trail, the entire screen flickers and shudders, indicating that what Din sees is actually what his helmet's camera's and sensors display to him. So he is not trying to look out of through the T-shaped black material on his helmet, it is more a stylistic choice reminiscent of a medieval knight's visage.
@osets21174 жыл бұрын
Mostly right. He can see through the visor if he gets hit by say an emp weapon. The T visor actually provides a lot of visual openness despite covering most of the face. There's a reason maximus chooses the Helmet he wears in the gladiator it provides maximum protection without hampering his vision (and yes I know that's also just a movie but it helps to prove the point)

I read a sci-fi series where large ships' armor was thick slabs of asteroid mounted to metal plates that could move around on a cage of rails, letting the ship move armor in the way of shots, and open gaps to fire through. And if the armor was chewed up too much, and the ship survived the encounter, they could find more asteroids to slice up and make more sacrificial/ablative armor. I thought it was a neat idea to beef up ships without going to powered shields like most sci-fi.

from what i remember from lightsaber lore, what keeps the plasma blade of a lightsaber contained is a finely shaped magnetic field, perhaps beskar has innately disruptive properties towards such a magnetic containment field that it's able to stop the blade before its even able to make contact. If blaster bolts are made out of plasma and not lasers, iirc plasma is extremely responsive to magnetic fields as well.

Energy weapons alone are a really interesting topic, then you combine that with the iconic weapons/armor of the starwars universe and you somehow make it even better. Good work!

Hey Kyle. Would the smelting and iron smithing process of the armor play a roll? Such as if you make the metal harder vs softer would it change any of your parameters?

It's certainly implied that there's a skill involved with forging armour correctly out of Beskar.

Another alternative is that Beskar is a High Temperature Superconductor. This would match one of your properties in that it would be a perfect reflector. Also, since all the weapons mentioned are directed energy, the energy would be transmitted via RF (yes, light is RF). RF energy is propagated by cross-coupled electric and magnetic fields - both of which are reflected by conductors and it Beskar is a Superconductor, it is a perfect reflector and the energy would just bounce off of it. Well, to be more technically correct, as the energy approached the Beskar, it would induce a electric current in Beskar which would create a powerful magnetic that pushed away the energy. In some ways you could say the Beskar would use the energy of the incoming blast to power up its own force shield. The stronger the weapon, the stronger the shield. Pretty efficient (and cool). Man, I wish I had some of that stuff.

I think a low coefficient of thermal expansion would be useful, too. It may not help too much on the first hit, but it could help the armor survive to stop each successive hit.

I was going to comment on the beskar armor and what is shown underneath it, but IF you haven't yet watched the show yet Kyle I will wait until you do. There are some interesting things we get to see when it gets heavily damaged.

In the legends books one of the few way to stop a mando in FULL beskar armorer was to just have everyone focus one person at a time, not to damage the armorer but to literally cook the poor person inside and even then it would take a minute or 2 to get to that degree! This was with having around 15 odd people focusing fire one one at a time for reference.

Not watched yet, but I heard Shad suggest the armour could contain inertial dampeners... let's see if you had the same idea.

It does have electronics in so that could be as well

Also possibly laced with diamond dust which would help reflect, and or refract both blaster bolts and lightsabers.

The armor apparently also has some kind of underlying electronics, instead of just being a material. It's been suggested that it has a collection of heat-transfer tubes like you find in laptop computers (those copper pipe-looking things), just on a micro-scale and in bundles. Another theory floating around is that those electronics also include some kind of low-level energy shielding, or magnetic induction that would help deflect blaster bolts if the bolts were plasma-based instead of lasers (which they seem to be, btw.). It's the two things together, the Beskar and the stuff working beneath it, that make Mandalorian armor so good.

My favourite type of Sci-Fi armor is that of Force:Marines in the Hyperion Cantos, because it actually sounds achievable with existing technology and miniaturization. There's no unobtainium involved, only 300 (three hundred!) protective layers with all kinds of different properties. Some are just advanced kevlar, others have high thermal conductivity to dissipate lasers, some are filled with non-Newtonian fluid, some will simply vaporize and block plasma rounds that way …

The reflective aspect of beskar is interesting. Because all other Mandalorians paint their armor. I'm trying to remember if when they get hit, the blaster bolt dissipates or reflects. The heraldry paint might be to prevent choas within the lines leading to blaster bolts moving around. Din not painting his armor could be a reflection of how he fights alone, because beskar rusting seems kind of silly. IRL knights often painted their armor because it acted as a sealant againist rust.

I have not seen the latest episodes, but the canon seems to be that beskar is the most light saber resistant armour, although I don't think anyone thinks you can just stand there and take blows. One other property that might just be plot armour is that Mando fell without serious injury from a sandcrawler. Some sort of inertial dampening field would also explain why it is so thin, without anything beneath to cushion impact. Medieval armour usually had quite a few layers to it because a lot of the weapons like a crude club could break bones without destroying the armour if it was straight plate on skin. Even a layer of cloth could help.
