there must be something with leverage or whatever that can be consciously or subconsciously exploited because I've seen it done before irl. Not for as long as movies do it but enough for people to be stunned, then scared, then rush over and break it up. Also, isn't it fairly common in pro wrestling? yeah yeah it's fake I know but it's not fake in the way a movie is. If they take a flying leap, the wrestler really made that jump. If they're lifted, the wrestler really lifted them. They're just very well trained in HOW to do it easily and (as much as can be) safely. it's not like they're wearing a wire harness or are CGI or anything. I think this is a case of math not covering every case on its own.
@renatocorvaro69243 жыл бұрын
Kyle, you're obviously very smart, and you clearly know more than I do about things like motion and engineering. But a human isn't a statue. Couldn't they avoid potentially tipping over by also using the muscles in their legs to apply force in a reverse direction, thereby stabilising themselves? Obviously, it's a thing that a person would have to be very strong to actually do (and not just in general, but having specifically trained the relevant muscle groups), but it doesn't actually seem outside the realm of possibility.

For everyone commenting on Vader's robot arms, remember that his left arm is mechanical just below the elbow while his his right is just a little higher. If done correctly you can, but it could be very dangerous unless you know exactly what you’re doing. One of the previous doctors in my town lifted his son by the base of his skull because the son was taunting him he couldn’t do it. To prove a point (and maybe scare some of the cockiness out of the kid) he went up and gripped underneath the base of his skull with one hand on each side and lifted him. Not quite the same as a neck lift but he claimed if it had been done incorrectly it could injure and maybe even kill the liftee and the only reason he was able to/confident to lift his kid. I didn’t witness the lift so I’m not sure if he had his kid up against a wall or not which would make the lift easier like Kyle stated in this video.

It seems like many people skipped the part at 8:25 where Kyle specifically details that yes if you go outside the parameters he gave which was a strict lateral/front shoulder raise with your elbow extended(preventing too much reliance on other muscle groups) and the way Vader lifts in that scene which is obvious wire work, as the actor used no other muscle group beyond his bicep. I mean even Kyle's stuntman scene clearly showed yes if you do more of a pressing motion, and leverage your back muscles, likely much easier to lift above head a dead weight(meaning much more weight is below your grip and also shifting) with one arm. A good example would be the difference between lifting sand bags with one hand by gripping it at the throat of the bag vs an iron weight which in my experience is pretty damn balanced when held properly. What you are gripping and how you grip it does play a role but all in the favor of Kyle's point.

Hey kyle, try doing the “neck lift” motion closer to your body, rather than having your arm fully outstretched. You may end up with a different result. Also for your second point, you forgot to bring a human’s balance and ability to counter move into account, I’m not sure that with a regular person it would make a difference, but for a super hero or cyborg it should be possible to pull it off. The reason for this is because of the fact that in order to have super strength it means that you must have: a) an extremely strong muscle (or synthetic) structure in order to not just snap your skeleton, meaning that the shoulder muscles would be able to hold against the torque of the manuver; and b) The muscular structure would have to be extremely dense in order to allow for the compound strength of the muscles to actually achieve the manuver, meaning that the super hero/ cyborg would be much heavier than the other person (most likely) and as such would feel less torque on their shoulders. Side note: being super strong would theoretically make you much more “bullet proof” for the same aforementioned reasons
@Krahazik3 жыл бұрын
Another supernatural element would be a telekinetic based super strength where the individuals muscles are not the actual force doing the lifting. At which point, body physics is 'out to lunch' at that point.

While at my powerlifting peak, I could only do about 45-50lbs for a strict front or side delt raise...but lifting someone by the next is not a strict move. Like you said, just change the angle a little, and suddenly, you aren't doing a delt raise, your doing an atlas lift drawing in your forearm, triceps, chest, all 3 heads of the delt.
@bnoel123453 жыл бұрын
@@Krahazik This is presumably the case with Vader, right? Granted he has robotic arms at his disposal as well, but I think this neck lift is primarily achieved though the Force, and could have just as easily been done from across the room. Alternatively he could be using the Force to weigh down the back of his feet, or his boots could be surreptitiously bolted to the floor at the time of the manuever. Sure, we get that. But what's the point? Darth Vader definitely has use of those things and it seems an odd choice to use him as an example while sidestepping why he is able to do it for the purpose of your vid. Wouldn't it have made sense for the focus of this video to be some human without augmentation or powers using that same move from some other movie?

"Very very unnaturally heavy" "lifter very heavy and very strong" like someone that has had over half there body replaced with mechanical parts? Like Darth Vader.

How much do you think he weighs? If we know that we can math it and see if it works.

@@WhiskerDooz Well there's a source floating around. Apparently, "Star Wars Blueprints: The Ultimate Collection" says that Vadar weighs 265 pounds inside of his armor. There's a snag though - Dave Prowse weighed that much *without* the armor. Honestly, your guess is as good as mine.

darth don't need weight, he has the force on his side to hold him up.

@@ColonelSandersLite That seems a bit on the lighter side (HAHA), given how tall Vader is and having mechanical body parts. I'm thinking ~350lbs is fair to assume.
