If the person looking for a book about a lady scientist at the turn of the century is around, I’d recommend Unsheltered by Barbara Kingsolver! There’s two timelines, one is late 19th c about Mary Treat, who helped Darwin with his research, and about her struggles as a female scientist in a rural, conservative town.

Considering I can’t remember the name of the book I read last week (hence, I keep a reading journal!) - my mind is blown by how fast you did this! And with such oddly specific requests!! Fabulous stuff....and yet more titles for my wish list 🙄😂

So happy to see Lola in all her furry, warm, doggy goodness. I was a bookseller for over 30 years and this is a condensed version of my day. It would be such a fun game to play at a booksellers party 🎉. A committee could make up questions and we could have bookish prizes. Thanks 🌷 -Deb

Dear Jen, I have a recommendation to ask for - but first, dang, this was impressive! So many book titles and author names in one head. I'm looking for a historical-ish werewolf book. No romances, no changing at will, I'm looking for the werewolfiest werewolf book there is. Something like the Wolfman-films! I hope you do this again, it was so much fun to watch and I now have even more books to read for scenarios I never thought of :)

I love how you cross your fingers, it's adorable, I hope that doesn't sound...too weird? Me saying that. I got you covered on the UK Asia short story collection one though! A Thousand Beginnings and Ending edited by Elsie Chapman and Ellen Oh. It's an anthology of short stories written by people of the Asian diaspora where they retell a legend or myth or fairy tale from their cultural background from their...diaspora perspective? My words fail me now. But it's distinct in that it is specifically the voice of Asians in the Western world rather than translated from Asian authors still in Asia. It's not specifically China/Thailand to UK, but the short stories come from Filipino, Chinese, Hmong, Punjabi, Vietnamese, Korean, South Asian, Gujarati, and Japanese diasporic authors.

Hello Jen, I absolutely love your book recommendations! I am in a bit of a situation really. This year, I have decided to read all the books that I have bought but not yet read. So I have a Jeanette Winterson, a Nadine Gordimer, a Rohinton Mistry that I want to start with. But I need to punctuate these with some light reading, otherwise Iknow I'll get overwhelmed. Could you please suggest some books (preferably 3-4)? I love fantasies and stories with plucky heroines. And a big fat kiss to Lola!

For the person whose boyfriend loves videgames but doesn't read: I recently got a similar man hooked with "The Killing Floor" by Lee Child. The action starts right in the first page and it maintains the same rythm for the whole novel. It sometimes feels more like watching an action film than reading a book.

What a great idea for a video. Love it. If I could submit my own peculiar book proclivity and request...I love books set on ships/boats, similar to Life of Pi or The Cat's Table by Ondaatje. Not interested in classics, and if it has a strong female character bonus points. 😎

I've been looking for a while now for a book similar to "The Crimson Petal and the White" by Michel Faber - a modern novel set in Victorian London, with dark and dense atmosphere and well-developed characters. I enjoyed it immensely, especially due to somewhat gloomy atmosphere (at least that's the impression I got). I'd appreciate some recommendations from you, but please, no Sarah Waters.
