Perch, I'm a huge fan of Geoff Johns and all things Ghost Machine. I used to enjoy James Gunn's work but don't have a lot of faith in him anymore. But, this time I have to say that he didn't rip off Junkyard Joe from Geoff Johns. The character in Creature Commandos is GI Robot. A character that first appeared in Star Spangled War Stories back in 1962 and even more recently in Weird War Tales in the 1980s.

I had to think about this. I know that DC and Marvel were putting out like 15 to 20 books a month in the 80s. There were only three mutant books and only two Batman books. I think the newsstand was more relevant in middle America because of rural communities.

Back in the 80s, Marvel put out about 25 books a month, excluding the Epic and Star imprints. I bought and read about 5 old going series. Today, they put out 80, and I read 5. BTW, in the 90s, I read 0. My point is that most of them were uninteresting as they are today.

It would be great if they reduced and focussed their lineup. I might actually start reading some of it! I hardly go near anything at the moment. Purposeful mini-series with ending would be good, so they can be easily recommended to new readers. If somebody asked me how they would get into any character these days, I'd have no idea what to tell them. However, if they do this, they should maybe also have a specific name and focus for the series, like 'Catwoman- When in Rome', or 'Poison Ivy- Cycle of Life and Death', or 'Zatanna- Bring Down the House'. Rather than just restarting at 1 again and again like Silk (2015), Silk (2016), Silk (2021) Silk (2022), Silk (2023) for example. Actually, Hellboy is another good example. Regular mini-series of a handful of issues, and other single issue appearances that can be collected. But all with names for the story arc, not just 'Vol. 1', 'vol. 2' If anybody wants to get into Batman, nobody would recommend jumping into the ongoing titles. Instead it would be Year One, Long Halloween, The Killing Joke, etc etc etc Even with his villains and support characters, its easy. If you like Bane, read 'Vengeance of Bane' and 'Knightfall', and then possible 'Legacy'. If you like Hush, then 'Hush', 'Heart of Hush'. For Azrael, 'Sword of Azrael', 'Nightsaga', 'Azrael'.

In around 45 years of buying comics I'm not sure I've ever bought more than 25 books a month (except for the occassional back-issue scavenger hunt), and even then they've always been from multiple publishers. The most new Marvel books I've ever bought in a month is probably around 15 even though I've always considered myself a Marvel fanboy and have loved the universe since the 1970s.

I have been thinking about this for a while now, and I love the idea of paring down Marvel to 40-48 monthlies. I was even aiming for 36-40, but there are so many characters to cover. I like the idea of 5 lines, with 7-9 titles in each line. Each line would have 5-7 individual titles, one team book that covers that line / tentpole, and one book dedicated to the main villain and their flunkies for that line 1) New York-based street-level heroes - ASM as the flagship with the best creative team you can get to spearhead the entire universe; other titles include Daredevil, Punisher, Moon Knight, Miles, Luke Cage, maybe Black Cat; Team book could either be spider family, Defenders (the Netflix team more or less), or New Warriors - main villain: Kingpin 2) Avengers / Global threats - Thor, Capt. America, Iron Man, Black Panther, Hulk, Hawkeye and Black Widow (basically the good half of the MCU); Team Book: Avengers; Villain book: Dr. Doom 3) X line - This is pretty much in line with what Perch had - Uncanny X-Men, X-Force, X-Factor, New Mutants, Wolverine, maybe Deadpool or another floating solo X Book; Villain book: Magneto 4) Cosmic / interdimensional stuff - Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer, Guardians of the Galaxy, Starjammers, Adam Warlock; Villain book: Thanos 5) Supernatural / Paranormal stuff - Dr Strange, Blade, Ghost Rider, Werewolf by Night - Team Book: Excalibur or Midnight Sons; Villain Book: Mephisto In any case it's a very loose structure, but I would hope they could sustain themselves with higher sales on fewer high-quality books.

Forty books sounds about right. If you look at the average top 50 in sales, you’ll probably have 15 to 20 that are guaranteed to sell. That leaves room to experiment with the other 20. Villains have to be threatening. We can talk about introducing new villains all we want, but if they’re not genuinely threatening or the hero can easily take them down, why should I care about them? Why should I get invested in any new villain? Honestly, let’s go back to Apocalypse, Magneto, the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, or even the Hellfire Club-something with real weight and presence. That’s one of the things comics have been missing lately, I think: truly threatening villains.

Shelf-flooding worked during the newsstand days, because there was a very limited amount of space that most non-comic stores would be willing to dedicate to comics… and because newsstand distributors tended to favor Marvel and DC. Shelf-flooding is not effective within the direct market, because the retailers can (and will) just expand or contract their shelf space as desired. And they don’t always favor Marvel and DC when they do decide what has to be crowded off the shelf… they might just be making space for a Marvel Comic by removing another Marvel Comic.

You left out There was a Sequel call *Avengers Undercover.* It was where Hazamat doesn’t need a Suit to control her powers anymore. What happened to the rest of first students Avengers Academy? Veil- she lost her powers. Finesse - she became a villain in Unstoppable Wasp. Reptil -he had his own mini series and he enrolled his young cousin into Strange Academy. (I want to add the fact Reptil is the only Character from Avengers Academy did appear outside of comics. Reptil was in Marvel Super Hero Squad cartoon and another animation short. Hazamat - she goes back wearing her suit, she becomes Carol Danvers’ sidekick in Kelly Thompson’s run and she was a temporarily member of Avengers during Blood Hunt(I wish Hazamat is a permanent avengers member) Striker’s status unknown. He is Alive and well. And now There are *“a New”* Avengers Academy from Marvel Voices with Carol Danvers being a Teacher. The New students of the new Avengers Academy are Bloodline, Homeless Captain America, Escapde, Kid Juggernaut, red goblin and moon girl. I like Moon Girl, i don’t have an opinion on Kid Juggernaut and Red Goblin but the rest of the new students sucks. This is a weak lineup. Strange Academy is Better than the “New” Avengers Academy. 12:47 Have you been Reading Cody Ziglar’s Miles Morales, Professor Perchington? Yes all the titles you mentioned, Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Spider-Man etc. but the number of X-Men titles need to be cut, there’s far too many. You wouldn’t even miss 90% if they were gone. The Marvel brand would be far better by publishing half the number of comics but have them all be really good. Like DC did the same thing with all those terrible backup stories they were stuffing into the back of a bunch of comics, and 95% were terrible. They were a waste of space & they made the comic more expensive.

I used to be a "buy everything" kind of customer, particularly if there was a major crossover. I'm the guy who, back in 1989, bought everything book with "Acts of Vengeance" in the corner. With age and decreased time, I just don't care about the wall anymore. I go to the shop and pick up the 4-5 issues I want that week and ignore the rest. I'm okay with a flood of titles if you're experimenting and looking for what's going to do well and what isn't. Ghost Machine is doing that right now on a smaller scale. That's okay. I can eyeball what looks interesting and sample an issue or two before I decide what I'm sticking with.

I think as long as they are financially viable, they can put out as many as they want. The problem is they aren't and the comic reading base isn't there to support what they want to release. The other thing is Marvel doing the whole shared universe thing, I think they and DC are past that point if they want to revive to a much better position. I don't want have to read titles I don't want to read to get the whole story. I just want to pick up that one book and know everything I need to know. There's also so much cape shit that people can really deal with. DC had Vertigo for a long time that helped them diversify their offerings. They can still do superpowered stories if they want, but stop putting everyone into spandex outfits. You'd probably get a lot more people interested in them.

Indie comics are just as important and valuable as Manga. 1:50 Why Kamala’s recent solo adventure comics are mini series, Perch? Really? They didn’t wreck her character but retconing her into a Mutant? If she has the X Gene would would’ve have the M-Poxs. 2:16 So When did the pain Started? Was it Grant Morrison? You did not recovered all that time before Bendis took over? Before The Inhumans era and before Krakoa? Seriously there is huge gap of x men comics that you don’t talk about post grant Morrison era. 3:24 The TVA book. I got buy to see if Jimmy Hudson lives at the end. I don’t like Captain Carter. She is just overrated. Also there no point of having Spider-Gwen in the comic either. 3:34 While DC there is nothing but Batman comics. 4:57 I heard someone say Wolverine has a rogue’s gallery. How does that work? If he is a x men that means his villains are also X Men Villians. Like I remember Laura’s villain Kimura appears in New X Men and Kimura kidnapped Mercury and experimented on her leading the creation of Predator X. So yeah how does this work? Is Logan and Laura’s villains are their villains or they X Men villains. 6:00 Yeah that why Civil War 2 was created to be in sync with MCU Civil War. I hate the MCU Syngery. It is low effort. 7:09 You are the same guy who say Future Foundation by Jeremy Whitley is bound to fail because he didn’t use recognizable characters. 8:28 The Only Mini series that becomes an Ongoing is Hellverine by Ben Percy. There are so many Mini series of the obscure and lesser known heroes. Including Black Lighting, The Question, Challengers of the Unknown, the Atom Project. They part of DC All in but they have mini series. So why is it perch? Perch voice: uuhh they not popular. 11:49 I remember Miles Morales, Kamala Khan and Sam Alexander was tied as the Trinity. Miles has the most comics titles. So he is Batman. Kamala Khan doesn’t have a lot comic tiles but appears in other comics so She is Superman. Sam Alexander has no comic titles and he makes few appearances and few impact. So Sam Alexander is Wonder Woman. Man San Alexander should’ve get more respect.
