I found this video somewhat useful but it’s a little easier because I’ve been collecting Comics since I was six, now 6 decades later I’m selling my collection, so I don’t have to buy or find my books to sell, still I watched this video for tips.

Love this type of content. A tip that has worked for me is to sell all of the filler books as 10x comic lots and sell the keys last. That way you get rid of the stuff you care least about (and takes up more space) first. Also, selling in small lots allows a larger pool of buyers to be interested (rather than selling hundreds of books in one lot where only resellers with a lot of money could afford). That being said, that WILL take longer so you gotta balance the profit/time ratio that works for you. Great thing about selling the fluff first is everything left will be a key and easy to sell/store away which can help prevent that feeling of overwhelming clutter and claustrophobia.

Sage advice for Collectors too... I've been turned off from major Cons, because of all the added stuff with them & entry costs... I find more & better deals at mid to smaller comic book shows... Plus, searching for personal keys & run finishers was a huge time waster for me... I found two personal major keys at one show for a very decent price recently... I remember searching for at least a year for them before that...now, I just let it happen... another aspect was I started conversing with dealers who I felt were genuine to look out for certain issues for me. Besides the new friendships, I would reciprocate with trade value or not haggling on a fair market price... I feel my collection has blown since... along with more time to read.

The OP is correct. Most of those are what the market considered minor keys, and that’s ok. Since this can be a bit subjective, there just might be a miscommunication/misunderstand what can be considered a major/minor key. Maybe PaperChase considers micro or non-keys as minor keys, then yes we can agree those are not really worth considering. We could alway debate each individual issue shown on the wall, but I am unsure this will really be satisfactory for any party.

@@robertt9342 this I agree %1000 percent. Well said. Video coming out on what is a “minor” key @atown4434 i suppose also my disagreement with your statement is it’s implying im contradicting due to whats displayed behind… 1. None of those had a thing written on them when i bought them… the few that were at a con at least 2. A quarter of those arent keys period… i enjoy art. Whats behind me has nothing to do with my disagreement of someone physically writing on the back of a back a minor key insignificance- another example (1st Head Pool) going up in value from rumors of a movie cameo… but really what great change has that character made in the comics.

Lmaooo dude doesn’t have a key on his wall at all. A minor key is first inhumans, first cable, first Deadpool, etc and an actually key is an ASM 1-10, ASM 14, ASM 50, first galactus, GSX 1, daredevil 1, hulk 181, hulk 1, ASM 129, etc. Clearly a broke person will say his slabbed $10 book is a key

From a coin guy’s perspective…. Realize I’m not disclosing other than condition to the customer and feel them out. I am not in the business to discuss or disclose tricks of the trade. Unreasonable offer to me is an automatic decline the deal and willing to walk away! Make my offer based on condition at the lowest possible cost with the intention to flip the entire deal to another person with a 30-50% profit margin. If the customer agrees then there’s is no integrity degradation and I don’t loose face. Comic guys do too much analytics. Once the deal is bought then do all your work. The biggest friend when buying is cost averaging. If you bought the deal 10 to 30 cents each then when I see a total junk book I am not afraid to recycle it by donation to Goodwill or children’s hospital in my area. I am happy to take the tax write offs that come.

I disagree with your distinction and advice on 'Minor' and 'Major' Keys, as a lot of books that I have sold for the past couple of years for 5-10x value were all 'Minor' Keys. First Hypno Hustler (not even listed in Key Collector until after movie was announced), New X-Men 114, Uncanny X-Men 130, Infinite Crisis 3 & 5...the list goes on and on. It does require a higher collecting IQ to keep your pulse on the market and I can see why the Major Keys appeal due to their obviousness, and I have a ton, but they are also the books that have dropped the most after the Covid run-up. My honest advice would be to always remember that Ultimate Fallout 4, Edge of Spider-Verse 2, and even New Mutants 98 were minor keys at one point. If you buy them when they are 'Minor' and then sell them when they become 'Major', you have just accomplished real investing. Always stay diversified and never count on Minor or Major keys solely, as they both have their place and those classifications are ever-changing.
@paperchasecomics Жыл бұрын
So how minor do you go when you invest?… id never look at a character like many you mentioned and say they were minor in their inception. Theres definitely a spectrum to the keys minor to major. I think it can be clear that some things are a bit ridiculous or insignificant through the story lines, attributes and relevance. some keys are a bit ridiculous and the ones im talking about should feel obvious when you learn about said characters
@robertt9342 Жыл бұрын
NM98 was considered a micro key for along time.

@@robertt9342 but he came out in 91’ was making some splashes in xforce in 92’ and had his own solo by 93’. I wouldnt consider a character with that trajectory a MINOR character, even back then. Again i think there’s discrepancies on the definition, and that definition i think has changed over time as well
@joshuawyatt4381 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply, it really varies for me depending on the price. I did buy the first appearance of Hallow's Eve when it came out just because I dug her design and love Halloween covers haha. I agree with you that the minor/major aspect has become a bit convoluted due to how quickly a character can go from 'unknown' to everyone is talking about them or headlining a movie. If I see characters that have something unique or interesting about them along with potential, and they are priced correctly, then I will usually grab it. Selling those once the hype hits can be pretty profitable and it does add a greater depth to collecting. We live in an era now where New Avengers 7 CGC 9.8 was selling for over $600 before Dr. Strange 2 which is complete insanity, but these markets are fairly illogical at best!

Most comic buyers I have dealt with are unreasonable and lazy. They want everything for half or less of what its worth and are not willing to take any risks. Everyone wants to see a hulk 181 sitting on top of the boxes and purchase the collection for 100 dollars. Comic book collecting is a hobby like any other which requires an investment of resources. It could be time spent organizing, buying supplies, researching, selling and many more things. If you are not willing to put in some time for your hobby why are you involved. A hobby is work that feels like play. Always be more respectful of other peoples time rather than your own. Remember that all the books you collect will one day belong to someone else. Its just your turn.

Check out the end of the video i did reacting to old 1980s comic con. Literally say the same thing in it as your end statement. 👍🏼 As for these tips, its not really about being lazy if thats the sentiment you took away. Working smart is not being lazy, and many people have families and love ones that depend on them and want some time to.. to me its about working smart and finding a balance. And respecting others time is 💯 important. Doesnt mean you neglect your own… right?

Not sure about the advice of pricing a bunch of books with values in the high teens at $10 unless you are really trying to unload books fast? Those losses can add up fast. How about $5 increments? Selling a $17 book at $15 is a lot better than at $10.
@paperchasecomics Жыл бұрын
Yeah thats why i mention in video if you can round up just a couple bucks. So a $17 book id just make a $20. But always be in the habit of discounting for loyal customers or people who create stacks from your books. But having greatly priced books like a $17 to dropped to $10 will help gain loyal customers that will always return. Its playing the longer game than even dollars and cents in my opinion. But of course being able to do that starts with making a good decision when buying your inventory. 👍🏼
