You should get a secured credit card. It helps build credit, I got one at age 19. I was on my own when it came to credit, after wards I started banking w a credit union. Opened a LOC, paid it off and a couple years later I was able to finance my own car w no co-signer by the age of 22. Good credit takes time, it’s best to pay off the entire monthly statement but if not possible at least pay off the minimum so you don’t get a hard ding on your report. Good luck on your financial journey! I’m 26 now and still learning :)

Yeah, that was definitely financially ignorant on their part. Hopefully you can get a secured card or two (the one from Discover even has a sign-up bonus) and in a year or two you'll have a decent credit history.

Its very personal and you must be disciplined. I have: 1 for amazon/whole foods 5% cash back 1 for 4% cash back gas/grocery stores/restaurants 1 for 6 mos no interest payments on medical expenses 1 for 5% cash back at my favorite retailer 1 for transferable miles/rewards with 0 foreign transaction fees 1 for free total mobile protection that I use for the cell phones bills and phones Again, discipline is important.

@Deci_Bella
@Deci_Bella Жыл бұрын
@@OutstandingBrain123 Well, the first one is the Amazon card. The 6 months of no interest can be anything - Citibank routinely offers credit cards with up to 18 months of 0% APR. - 5% cashback retailer - well, aside from Amazon, Target and Walmart offer that on their credit cards, but I don't know what her favorite retailer is, could be anything. The one with miles and no foreign transaction fees could also be several possibilities, plus she didn't say how many miles per dollar. As far as I know, the only card currently without an annual fee that offers cell phone protection is Chase Freedom Flex. The other ones are Capital One Venture X and AmEx Platinum. The one I have that also offers cell phone insurance is Wells Fargo Propel, but that is no longer offered to new subscribers. Having said all this, there is no credit card that offers 4% back on groceries, gas AND restaurants, and I think OP made a mistake on that one.

Please don’t grow up and sign up for three credit cards. Start now by spending less than your allowance. And when you turn 16 and get a job, live below your minimum waged means. You only need a credit card if you plan to live above your means (spend more than you make). Buy cars you can afford to pay cash for, look for houses you can pay off on a 10-15 year note. 🙏🏻 there’s a better way than what society is telling you.

Despite the advice, you’re getting that tell you to avoid credit cards. Yes, get a credit card in college. If your parents can’t help you because some parents just won’t. As soon as you turn 18, make 2 bank accounts, 1 called essentials and 1 for spending. Now make sure you split your paycheck automatically so on pay day your essentials account gets a percentage of your payday money. Keep the essentials bank credit and debit card literally under your rug or someplace where you don’t see it ever. They should never go in your wallet. You link your credit card to that essentials account you made (preferably at a different bank from your main) and set auto payments. Put essential subscriptions on your credit card. Pay each credit card month in full never in pieces. Apply only to student secured credit cards if you aren’t a secondary member on your parents credit card. Don’t apply for popular ones you see on tv that are targeted to office employees and homebuyers or travelers because you’ll get rejected and ruin your score. Those are hard to get approved for with no credit history. By the time you finish college, you should have set least 4 years of credit.

My family is pretty good at handling money, and I am lucky to have these people to look up to. Ridiculous! As a former banker of 20 years: 2 cards are plenty! And pay the full balance every single month! Paying your entire balance every month is the way you establish excellent credit. Keep it very simple, pay off every month, you are good to go with an excellent score!
@Deci_Bella
@Deci_Bella Жыл бұрын
I don't see how having only two cards would be practical though. You'd be losing out if that's all you have. I have: Target CC for Target (5% cashback) Walmart for Walmart (5% online, and there are no physical Walmart stores where I am anyway) Amazon for Amazon (and sometimes Whole Foods, 5%) AmEx Blue Cash Preferred for 6% back on groceries and streaming Cap One Savor for 4% off dining and entertainment Heck, I even have two ultra-premium travel credit cards - Cap One Venture X and AmEx Platinum - because the value you get out of them is a lot more than the annual fees.

Kinda sorta agree. She's talking about utilization, which is how much of your available limit are you using. If you've got a $20k limit on a card and you're carrying $1k, it's as good as having 3 cards each with a $5k limit that have $1k spread across them.

As a UK mortgage broker, I have noticed that a credit limit that’s too high can make you a higher risk. Even doing mortgages for footballers with high income, they can get declined because they have a credit limit the size of a Range Rover, and technically they could go and impulse buy and max out. Don’t forget lenders take (typically) 3% of your balance as an monthly expense so when the card balances get high, it can eat into your borrowing on a home.

I now have 11 credit cards with physical limits and have $24, 250 in personal cards and $4100 in business credit cards. One is a charge card, the Amex Green card which is no preset limit. I'm good for now. 12 personal and 1 business. I see nothing right now on my radar for at least a few months and possibly a year. I'm trying to get under 5/24 which should be at least in another year or two. If their no annual fee, if you prefer one, put a small charge every now and then to keep it open once every few months even better if a monthly recurring charge and on autopay. In this case, the other 2 and it will keep them open, increase the available credit available to you and your utilization will be much lower and raise your score.

I have 3 general (one MC, 2 Visa) and one for Kohl's. The Kohl's one is mainly for discounts for its CC holders. If only have 1 general cc and it is rejected for some reason, goes lost, gets damaged, a 2nd or 3rd card may save you. I also have plenty of credit line amounts for any unexpected or higher than normal expenses (like on a long trip, where had to use my cc for employment travel and later reimbursed). Also some cards may give different benefits, especially like with Chase CC's, where different points bonuses per quarter of the year. I end up where I make money on my cc's.

Fast forward 6 yrs got 8 more blew them with stupid business ideas. 4 yrs past got 7 more,, didn't really use them for myself, family, friends, ex-girlfriend and really nothing for myself. 😅 I lost my job, lost my cards and funny, the phone calls stopped. 😮.I have just two now with a $5000.00 limit each. Only use them to keep them open and only for MY emergencies

According to Credit Karma, 21 or more is ideal. Actually, 21 or more tradelines, which could be mostly credit cards, but not necessarily all credit cards.

Probably fair advice, but I have 9 open credit accounts a few store cards and lots of credit and 5 closed lines I didnt use often enough. It's probably wise to avoid amassing credit sizably over your income but as long as you pay your bills and keep life time intrest charged

Using credit cards to build credit only works in certain countries. In my country, credit cards do not build your score, so that old advice to avoid them is fitting for our economic system.

I got my first credit card at 30 ! don't be me and start as early as possible with student cards and secured cards. Fico gives you the most points with at least 3 cards, and let 1%-9% balance report for the most points possible. 10%-30% is normal but you earn less score points.

It’s also incentivizes spending vs. saving. People that don’t have their own capital to make a purchase they need to borrow it thus requiring a good credit score. Why not flip around your thinking and save your own money instead…As you don’t need credit if you have the funds available and therefore a credit score becomes irrelevant. Now, if you have a mentality of being comfortable in life, and trying to get the best bang for your buck, and also borrowing money from a credit institution when needed, then yes, this information is beneficial. However, if you have a mentality of becoming rich, then this information is not applicable or really beneficial.

She's not going to answer you. She's not really your BFF. It's just a gimmick. Yes, it includes store credit cards. I suggest you have at least 12 cards, 2 credit lines, 2 installment loans. Credit Karma thinks 21 credit lines, cards, installment loans, etc., is ideal.

It usually counts but not always. The new FICO9 or FICO10 does not count authorized user accounts. I suggest you apply for more cards of your own. But you are off to a good start.

It's really not about that at all - it's about all the perks various cards offer. You apply for something because it provides valuable benefits (to you), not because it's a MasterCard.

I have a bunch & pay them off every month. No biggies. I like the different rewards, never carry a debit card, and only six at the most. No annual fee is key. You need to control expenses & increase your earning potential. Credit card companies can be predatory. My only card that has an annual fee is my Costco card that is free with membership. 🤓So, my membership costs are reduced. (Costco card is kinda strange stuff stingy though). 🤭

This video gives bad advice towards the ending. Credit lenders do not see you as a bigger risk if you have lots of credit lines. That is only true if they see that you are maximizing them. If they see that you handle the lines correctly they offer you higher limits actually
