How many fish actually see your bait?

Hey Skipper

7 жыл бұрын

Florida fishing can be packed full of action. We are in Sebastian, Florida fishing with live shrimp and clams as bait. We are getting many bites however...is not as easy as it seems. We are getting bites, but not landing fish! Something keeps stealing it!
How many people out there have wondered... How many fish have seen my bait without biting? Today we take an underwater look at what exactly is below the surface of the water, and how many fish are actually looking at our bait. Follow our adventure this week as Brendon and Erin show the underwater world of Florida.
This month the Hey Skipper team is in Florida on a mission to create videos to help the world learn more about saltwater fishing. We are here to explore one of the world’s most fantastic fishing locations and document the fascinating world of fish that live in Florida’s oceans. Stay tuned for a month filled with great fishing, monster fish, and all the methods you need to start catching them yourselves.
Our vision at Hey Skipper is to be the best source of helpful information to anyone who wants to get into the world of fishing! Help support our channel by visiting us on our website and downloading our Ebooks!

grew up fishing in Idaho and California...moved to Florida and started fishing immediately. Caught my first fish, which looked totally harmless and went to take the lure from his mouth. The fish made a quick snap snap with his mouth and nearly bit off two of my fingers....bleed so much i actually became dizzy. Apparently the fish in Florida all have teeth and some hide them up in their gumline so you can't see them until they clamp down....lesson learned, now i always use pliers.

That's cool that you released the little one(personally I'd prefer to release both of those fish, but that's just my personal opinion). Its cool to see the fish swimming underwater there, because you normally get the feeling that there aren't that many fish left, because you don't see that many from above(and because of 400 years and millions of people catching them).

I'm pretty sure that Jack Crevalle can get up to 70 pounds. I think the world record is like 66 pounds. Jack crevalle are also known by many people in the south to taste like crap, but I've eaten one before, its pretty good. In order for them to taste good they need to be small, so the size of the first one you caught. They also need to be bled to get rid of the oil blood from their meat, and the fresh fillets need to be soaked in milk or even just water to get rid of the fishy taste and oils.

Im curious if you eat it plain is it nice ? because people say the same about mackerel but where I live lots of people grew up on mackerel. Its very oily plain but some people swear by it plain or with a squeeze of lemon at most. I will only eat it plain if its smoked, fresh smoked mackerel is amazing goes well with almost anything. but unless you are a real big person don't eat more than two that are cooked plain without a side dish. Or you'll be shitting through the eye of a needle.

I've grown up on the Arkansas river. Besides the river, there are many ponds and deep strip pits to fish in our area. Fishing takes up a lot of my time. I've enjoyed your videos and have always yearned to fish in saltwater. There's not too much variety in local freshwater. The most interesting thing to catch around here is the paddlefish. You'll have to look it up. It is unchanged for millions of years.

Looks like the wabasso bridge about 8 or 9 miles south of Sebastian inlet . The thing that you called a walk way used to be a catwalk that you could fish off of used to be a great place to catch shrimp when they ran . That cat walk is very old and just not safe anymore and that's why people fish off the bridge . I've lived in that area for 30 years and fished all over

You watched to many Disney movies. LOL Fish don't think, feel or reason like we do. Look, I am the last person who wants to see any living creature suffer but at the same time I have to be a realist about the world around me. Fish eat each other...they eat smaller examples of their own kind! They are not even self aware and certainly do not process pain like humans do. If the fish is like any creature that is taken out of it's natural surroundings I.E. like a mammal drowning, it went unconscious shortly after being taken out of the water...so even if it was "aware" about it's situation it all went dark shortly after and no suffering took place. The reason I would give for killing it right away would be to preserve the meat for better eating. A quick kill stops the fish from stressing and releasing hormones/enzymes and whatnot into itself.

The Universal fish bait to use in Florida, is bread. I didn't believe it either but you can catch almost anything on bread. Trust me, the best bait in Florida, BREAD>

Honestly, I fished there for years, and refused to use Bread. I moved to a different state, and now I regret it because, when I really think about it, they were catching everything with bread! I never proved any kind of point except that I won't give up even if sometimes, I'm wrong.

I did figure it out. Most of these fish, are very accustom to finishing off anything a Gator or Crock started eating, and the flesh of fish and birds, is all very white in the water, so they really love white bread, and white bait.

When you're fishing with clams and shrimp (and squid for that matter), it's easy for your bait to slide off your hook when fish nibble on it. It can also easily fly off your hook when you cast. I had a similar experience in the Keys. It can be tough to hook up on something when your bait is so easy to lose. It takes some practice and finesse. Once I got the hang of it, I was catching snapper, barracuda, and even bonnet head sharks right off the shore.

Hi there, very nice and good location to spent a day of fun fishing. It make my hand feel itchy. Have you tried Sabiki Rig. This rig will catch those swimming off the bottom. You can also try the Up Down Rig or the High Low Rig, use small hook and small bait and your bait not be stolen away so often but will catch you more fish. As the theory said, Big hook can catch Big fish, but small hook can catch small and big fish.

That is the bridge all of the pompano fisherman go to. Me and my granddad fished it a couple times. You will actually catch pompano off of the beach though. Tight lines!

In Hawaiʻi, we have three different types of jacks (called Trevally Jacks): Giant Trevally (or GT, all white), Bluefin Trevally (ʻOmilu), and Yellow-Spotted Trevally. The juvenile trevally in Hawaiian are called papio, and the bigger ones (usually over 5-7 lbs.) are called ulua. Any bluefin ones are called ʻomilu. The GT can get up to about 200 lbs, possibly more, and can be as long as the average man is tall. ʻOmilu get up to about 50 lbs (I think), and yellow-spotted ones can get up to about 15-20 lbs, I believe. I would recognize this fish anywhere, no matter its color scheme, because most of us fish for it if going from shore, or if guys a skin diving and spearing them. Don't get me wrong, we will go for other fish, but this is usually the prize for the size and fight. One tip I learned: don't throw them back. If you throw back the alpha of the school, the entire school will swim away. Even if you're going to throw them back, only do so after catching as many as you can, keep them in a bucket, then release them.

I have. I grew up in Vero Beach so I've fished most of the river and inlets. I have caught Bonnethead and Black Tip Shark at Wabasso, as well as Jack and Snook. They just recently tore that lower walkway out and built the bridge railing - maybe just 6 months ago or so.

Cool video y'all. I caught some of those jacks back in July I believe down in Freeport Texas on my buddy's boat and man those things would fight good. We caught some nice big ones and would take about 30 minutes to finally get one in the boat. We caught them all day on ribbon fish. Are y'all coming to the bassmaster classic in Houston this year?

It's related to the Amberjack, which has a yellow tail as well, hence it being called Yellowtail. You've probably heard of the name before, as it's served in sushi restaurants everywhere. All I know about the Jack Crevalle is that it tastes fucking great with lemon, butter, and ground pepper.

First of all, Jack Crevalle reach weights of over 50lbs. 70lb jacks have been seen but not caught on hook and line. They are very prone to schooling activity, and when they do, each fish in the school is around the same size. They (like many other members of the jack family) have bloody, oily meat and sometimes the larger ones have worms, so they're usually caught for sport or bait, not food. They are ravenous feeders and extremely speedy and aggressive fish. They eat a wide diet of food but they eat more fish than anything else. lures that imitate dying or fleeing fish work best. spoons, jigs, plugs, and topwater lures. They frequently get together in schools and start feeding frenzies, pinning schools of small bait fish to the surface, against sea walls and jetties or other structures as they eat them. Most lures used for them are fished quickly. they also will take cut bait, live bait, and plastics.

Jack crevalles are fun to catch and the table fare is ok. But if you want some really good eating, get some Mangrove snappers that are big enough to take home next time. Really excellent table fare.

Amberjack though are really good eating. Have to go offshore to find them though. At least 100 foot depth over big structure. Butterfly jigs work great and they're a fun fight. Unfortunately, you'll have to wait until next January to harvest because the Feds have already closed them for the year.

You can use live bait like shrimp, crabs, or some type of little bait fish but you can also use soft plastic minnows or hard plastic minnows and flashy rattling baits and also crevalle jacks can get up to 50 pounds +
