Regarding 6:00, the Royal Mint has been clever in introducing new products such as the silver proof sovereign which never existed before. Perhaps they may also introduce other new products such as a silver proof half sovereign, a silver proof quarter sovereign, a silver proof double sovereign, a silver proof quintuple sovereign and a silver proof piedfort sovereign. Traditionally sovereigns were gold coins and silver coins had lower denominations such as six pence, shilling, florin, half crown, and crown.

I bought the 2017 Gibraltar World's first Silver Sovereign. They were about £10 each, expensive yes but far cheaper than this rip-off. You're 100% right regarding this most likely not being a one off. Unfortunately partially privatising the Royal Mint has made them just make loads of over priced silver coins as a cash grab. I don't understand the logic of gold bullion on there and in general in this country being sold very close to spot but silver is almost always highly overpriced. I know silver has 20% VAT added to it but even with that taken in to account silver is still highly inflated compared to spot prices.

The Royal Mint has been a rip off these last 15-20 years. So many variants of coins in different metals as to make coins more like medallions. It was never like this and coins were worth collecting before they simply threw out overpriced versions of the same coin. They have gone the same way the Post Office did years before when they began issuing a new set of stamps every month instead of 6-8 sets a years. Less is more and people aren’t mugs.
@the_islandstackerАй бұрын
@@markwiles3485 they definitely need to do less at a higher quality, but the mint is just churning out stuff after stuff to just make money and not focus on the customers who are buying these things.
That's another thing to consider as the mint has a really bad record with silver milking. I have to say I have a few silver proofs and they do seem to be better than the bullion coins, but still this should not even be a consideration.

@@GazB85 they are removing/reducing the copper content so they will be closer to the older sovereign being more yellow. They will still be 22kt. Having a quick look it says from 2017 they changed the mix but I feel like it's been rose gold for longer.

@@theonlyDerp are you referring to the special George and the dragon for this year or just in general? They haven't sold anywhere near as fast as you're suggesting in this video - the stock count for the cheaper one was only 4,500 at 9am on release day and it took about 4 hours for it to go down by a thousand. They will have given a fair chunk to other dealers to sell, but probably not 45,500 of them. I find it hard to believe that RM cannot say if they will be producing this coin as a one off. At this price you need to know what you are getting as the price is many times above the bullion value to such an extent that the bullion value does not really count. These are not for me and I think at present due to the world situation bullion coins may be the better option bought at the good old bullion price. As well as that the quality control so to speak is pretty bad at RM.
