It’s a 1955 Selmer Mark VI. You’ll see a lot of them with the lacquer coming off like this. The brass itself is fine! One this age with 100% lacquer intact might cost $20,000+

Saxophone seems like one of those instruments there's no chance of learning on your own, I wanna learn trumpet as my first non percussion instrument since it seems the most straightforward, I can tell where to grab it lmao
