I lived on Hemswell airfield in the very early 70's, it was mothballed at the time and it was were they earlier filmed Dambusters, but we used to go for swimming lessons at the pool at Scampton airfield and I remember seeing the Lancaster City of Lincoln standing as a Gate Guard there.

Sorry but this was the Lancaster that flew from Australia to Biggin Hill in 1965 donated by the French Government and not City of Lincoln

I used to live near to Canadian Warplane Heritage and used to see Vera flying a couple of times a summer. One of the sweetest thing to hear is 4 Merlin engines singing. This particular Lancaster was built at Victory Aircraft (later called Avro Canada) at Malton, Ontario. She is a Mk X and did not see action. She was placed in reserve and later converted to a maritime patrol aircraft. The plane was retired in 1963 and sold to the Royal Canadian Legion. It was a gate guard in Goderich Ontario until 1977. It was Donated to CWH and was licensed to fly in 1988. The osint scheme is patterned after VR-A. VR was 419 bomber squadron RCAF. This is to commemorate a Victoria Cross recipient, Andrew Mynarski.

I often see Vera flying over my house in Hamilton Ontario. It brings tears to my eyes and sounds wonderful. I always know the sound before I even see it.

Well, one of them flies over my house every August and September. One time it flew over at 300’ and the sound was deafening. Couldn’t imagine hundreds at a time going by.

Shame upon you not able to provide a photo of a Avro Manchester it had only two engines, "Chastise" is the correct name of the dam buster raid Also the Avro Lancaster was first in line to drop the Atomic bomb on Japan as the Superfortress could not accommodate the bomb due to the aircrafts spar.
