Out of 7 bottles, ~350$ CAD: - 1.5k cities of sigmar freeguild (75 models) - 1k Flesheater courts (30 models) - 1k Nighthaunt (30 models) - 3k Seraphon (~50 models + kroak + 6 dinosaurs) - 2k Be'lakor army (be'lakor + a ton of bloodletter sized minis) - A Goblin Blood Bowl team (16 models) - Ossirach Warcry warband (12 models) - Tau kill team (15ish models) - Kroot kill team (12 models) - Intercessor kill team (8 models) - 3 Armigers - A Battletech lance (4 models) - ~60 cyberpunk models for Five Parsecs from Home IIRC after doing the math, JUST the Seraphon monsters covered the cost of the resin, and the entire Seraphon army covered the cost of the printer and the wash/cure station. Everything after it was like 75% savings if you take into account minor failures, cost of gloves and towels, and the cost of files. Something GW sells for 120$ (an imperial knight) costs about 12$ to print + 20$ for a high quality file (if you don't use the free one floating around) that you can the reuse as much as you want.

I think your issue is either build plate level or bottom layer exposure, prints stuck to the FEP are typically one or both of those issues and not the supports failing. I find my Saturn 2 unlevels really fast because of the ball joint. I also prefer to go in with Chitu and add a raft to the models, just saves headaches with removal. You can also add some fatter supports to the initial contact points. Also, good on pointing out mistakes, they happen and they cost resin. Overall I printed about 4K points of HH space marines and a 3K Lizardman army for WHFB 8th with about 3ish 1kg bottles. At $40-50 each it's still a big savings.

when dealing with pre-supported pieces that continuously fail, I recommend using the slicing/supporting program recommended by your printer manufacturer and either A) adding additional supports manually to the pre-supported model or B) get the unsupported model and support it all manually. You should also increase the exposure time slightly. I hope this can work for you if this is a continuous issue you have.

Great video! I've been 3D printing for well over a year now, but I'm using a smaller size printer (Anycubic Photon Mono). I chose it because of some possible issues with larger format printers that could result in a higher rate of failure. The larger size of the FEP has more pull and that can really do a number on lift and retraction, which just makes failures more of an issue. I generally go with presupported models as well, just for the pure ease of it. Works out mostly OK, but sometimes you get a presupported model that just... Has issues. It happens. On a side note, I don't play Warhammer, I print for D&D and just painting projects. At the time, I figured I already played Magic the Gathering, no need to go into debt playing another game! I do have a load of Saurians printed, from OnePageRules and I have two small warbands printed for a game called Nebula (from CastNPlay), so I may just be getting into wargaming after all!
@battlebrothersam2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes I've noticed after moving from the Mars 2 Pro up to the saturn there is a higher chance of failure like you say with suction force so really the models in the middle have to have pretty strong supports! I've put nfep on my saturn as far as I can tell it helps but like you say some models just don't want to print lol one page rules is a much more streamlined warhammer experience so your definitely moving in the right direction there 😁

What resin do you use/recommend? I have been using the Anycubic Eco in grey and found that my models are a bit brittle. Although it could be because I was curing them for 6ish minutes a pop. Would love some more recommendations. Also you should check out the flexible build plate for resin printers.
@battlebrothersam2 жыл бұрын
Yeah 6 minutes is over curing, I cure for 1-1m30 each side. Overcuring does make it more brittle, I think abs like elegoo is the best I tried so far, I do want to try the standard resin though to see if there's much of a difference
@michaelramos44822 жыл бұрын
Yeah 6 min is way over curing. Elegoo abs like is great. Ive burned through quite a new bottles of elegoo standard and Anycubic standard. They're decent. Anycubic Standard + is actually really good!
@TheSmuey2 жыл бұрын
I've used the Anycubic Standard Grey for months (currently 12 bottles down... And I don't like to do that kind of financial math) and I'm currently using a bottle of the Eco stuff. 6 minutes is WAY overkill. Here's a little trick: Put the models you want to cure in a container full of water. Completely submerge the model and then cure it underwater. Exposure to oxygen messes with the curing resin and you can eliminate that by curing underwater. It leaves you with a more sturdy mini (well, less fragile. I mean, it's still resin and it will still shatter if you drop it on a hard surface) and a shorter cure time (30-60 seconds is plenty, depending on the size of the model).

It's not the lift speed that's the issue. Your settings are totally off. You should be aiming at auto-supporting 75% of the models with smaller support struts that have a contact diameter AND depth of 0.30mm. Afterwards, on the slicer menu, try this; Exposure time 5, Lift distance 5, Lift speed 100, Bottom exposure 45, Retract speed 150. The reason for 45 on the bottom exposure is so that it warms the resin up as you print, and as it cures it will give your models a stable base, then the residual light will cure the rest of the print layers.
@battlebrothersam Жыл бұрын
5 secs exposure is way too long for a mono screen and 45 secs bottom exposure would be too hard to get off the build plate in my opinion but if that works for you then kudos, I will look st the 75% part though
