“How Many More People Need To DIE?” Ian Collins' FURIOUS Clash Over XL Bully Dog Ban

Talk’s Ian Collins furiously clashes with anti-Breed Specific Law campaigner Leigh-Catherine Salway over whether XL bullies should be a banned dog breed.
It comes after a dog owner was mauled to death by her two registered XL bullies in the latest tragedy involving the banned breed.
Ian says the breed has “no place in a domestic home”. Leigh-Catherine dissents, saying it is down to the owner, puppy farms and not the breed specifically.

Sadly, This woman is a typical example of those that advocate for fighting dog breeds. She is right about the lack of laws re breeding of all dogs...but thats about it. Simply the problem isnt that fighting dog breeds bite or attack more often than other breeds its HOW they fight which is why they are the dog fighters breed of choice WHEN they decide to attack they grab hold and tare and continue to kill, other breeds bite then release...this is why fighting dog breeds cause the most fatalities. So do all fighting dogs attack and kill NO, if a fighting dog breed attacks is it more likely to cause severe injury and or kill its target YES. So again simply ban breeding them for anyone, in 10 years these breeds will gradually die out as will mixed breeds of their crosses. Those that love them can simply pick another breed...Dog fighting rings will die out (killing your opponent doesnt come naturally to non fighting dog breeds if "pitted against eachother" Shelters will no longer be 95% Staffys, and other bull Fighting dog breeds and their crosses, in short the clock would be wound back to the 70s when most dogs were pedigree purebreds bred for quality and temperment and you couldnt even give a mixed breed away let alone sell it and no one thought that getting a staffy, pitbull, mastiff etc...for the kids to play with was a good idea. Great danes are a huge powerful dog, yet they arent making the news for taring other dogs a people apart and never have...simply dog attacks are breed specific, these breeds are simply reverting back to what they were bred to do IF engaging in an attack. People like this woman do not look at the bigger picture of all the animal cruelty you would be stamping out if you just ban breeding fighting dog breeds. In 10years several problems would be eradicated.

When will dumb people like you understand that if people want to fight dogs they will just pick another breed to take the place of a banned breed. This woman is just spouting the same old same old. The dogs aren't altogether banned so yes there will still be attacks while they still exist, the only way round that wouldve been a mass cull but the government didn't go to those lengths and gave people the chance to keep their pets. Bottom line is, these dogs can kill in 30 seconds. A grown man doesnt stand a chance. Other dogs do bite but they dont cause the harm these do, or present the same amount of danger. Also the numbers and stats speak for themselves. This woman is plain rude and is doing the whole issue no favours, shes making all bully owners look bad!
@basylpeterjones
@basylpeterjones 22 күн бұрын
What you said is a bit contradictory because dog breeds can't all have the same propensity to attack if the stats, you mention, tell a stark story of breeds that attack and breeds that never attack - and a single breed responsible for nearly all deaths.
@sammymillinchip8456
@sammymillinchip8456 22 күн бұрын
@@basylpeterjones I never said they did. Hence the reason I said stats and facts don't lie and speak for themselves and stats show these dogs are more dangerous than others. That's still not to say every single is dangerous, just a higher risk than most other breeds. Cant see where the contradiction is.

It’s the owners not the breed what next ban all big dogs Rottweiler was always in the news also Alsatian’s and dobermans can u see a trend here all that will happen is the type of people breeding these dogs and the wrong owners will just move on to the next breed the women is right education is the key also dog licenses what happened to those every one should have one and if you haven’t you have the dog took away and then you should be fined if the government had any sense they would make a fortune putting these laws in place banning breeds is not the answer .
@slurpeeBeanz
@slurpeeBeanz 19 күн бұрын
@sammymillinchip8456 stats can be manipulated by media, as they've been done. For example, alot of the bully attacks were cross breeds or staffies and other dogs being labelled xl bullys. This is the same with some the deaths. These dogs (genetic bully dogs) are not more dangerous than other dogs. You clearly never been around larger breeds. I could name atleast 10 that are more dangerous and aggressive to humans off the top of my head. Americans don't have a problem with them and their stats go back alot longer. They are not considered a dangerous breed there with minimal attacks. Once they came to Europe and were crossbred by many uneducated breeders the bloodline changed, prey drive was higher, an education was lost on some. This has continued to happen since. That's what the lady is trying to say in the debate. Why do you think the ban covered more breeds than just the xl bullys. There's that many mixed dogs about and bullys are the scapegoat.
@sammymillinchip8456
@sammymillinchip8456 19 күн бұрын
@@slurpeeBeanz I've been around xl bullys for the last 3-4 years lol! Americans have double the fatal dog attacks we do which can be directly attributed to the fact we have a put bull ban and you lot don't. Bullys are from pit bulls and seeing as they were responsible for 75% of the 16 deaths last year from dog attacks I'd say they're a little more dangerous than bichon frise. An xl bully uses pit bull as its base breed and adds other breeds to make the xl bully. Just because it has other breeds mixed in doesn't make it any less dangerous or any less responsible. In fact it's because it has other breeds mixed in by ignorant, clueless breeders that has made it so dangerous. All people cared about was the money which is why when the ban came in people got rid of them in droves because a)they were just 4 legged cashpoint machines and b) people knew deep down they were dangerous. Else they'd have done like my good friends have done and got the licence, castration and exemption certificates for the xl bully dogs I've spent many, many hours with.

I am a middle aged women and I own a legally exempted XL Bully, my dog has had vast socialising from when I first owned him, he has lots of daily enrichment to keep him occupied and he is also walked twice a day, he is well known within my village and all dog walkers know us both and also know I am a responsible owner, however with all that being said, I also understand that I own a powerful strong breed who is a wild animal. I also dont dismiss what he could be capable of however to minimise risk, I do not allow any children, family, friends or strangers to ever be alone with my dog, or to approach my dog without my permission. Can I say in my opinion I think the majority of the dog attacks have come from dogs what have had no enrichment in their lives, no love and training and I believe also some owners have administered steroids to make their dogs even bigger which I think could contribute to the level of aggression which has led to fatalities. I just wanted to comment to let people know that some owners DO take their responsibility of owning this breed serious.

When my husband made his way to the hospital after speaking with the neighbor and the police, it turns out the neighbor cranked her shock collar up to the highest setting TWICE when she was attacking, and the dog completely ignored it. Such a frustrating interaction : There is some level of agreement between the two ( and myself ) . As Ian says, he can handle a cockapoo going rogue ...but not so a Bull(y) type breed. There is a massive difference between a "bite" ....which rarely results in death and a "savaging" which often can . The statistics on the dog breeds involved in deaths / serious injuries do not lie . I believe the "Bull" element of the name is indicative of the breed's multi-generational breeding for baiting - ie clamping onto and holding - Bulls . You are right. The Xlarge pitbulls are totally different, and only a few people can handle them. They should be banned from individuals who are broke and can't afford paying thousands of dollars to train them. I have a Dutch Shepherd who is way more dangerous than a pitbull. The Dutchie does not like strangers. Most reactive dogs ever. How about the Belgian Malinos? Those dogs are breed to kill. Let's be honest here. Some dogs should be only owned by experts on the breed. I spent thousands of dollars on training my dog, who is well behave but will never leave them alone around my grandkids.

They said this about Rottweilers back when I was a kid, and they were always in the news for something….then it moved on to the next popular breed, and the next... There’s always a “breed” that seems to be popular as a status symbol that becomes a problem. And it’s now moved on to XL bullys. At some point the trend will move on to a different breed. Whilst I don’t like the aggressive way she puts across the information, she is right that any dog with a bad background or with an irresponsible owner, could be deadly. I think people forget that ALL dogs are animals. Even if we ban various breeds, without stopping the puppy mills and ensuring people are held accountable for owning dogs, the problem will continue.

@@splodge5714 yes I’m not saying they are not dangerous. I’m just concerned that people are focusing only on a dog breed or “type”. They have already been made illegal to breed/buy/sell, as far as I know? And those that exist have to be registered and muzzled now or risk having them taken away and potentially put down. I might be wrong but I expect people will move onto the next breed soon, then what happens? So I still think we need to look at this from a wider perspective and think about prevention for the future. So crack down on puppy farms churning out poorly bred dogs with dodgy temperament (all breeds I mean), potentially have some kind of training/license for new dog owners (maybe experienced owners are exempt from training) etc. I don’t have all the answers, I just think that if we don’t want this to happen again with other breeds then perhaps we should think about prevention…

@@splodge5714 Exactly! Their apologists keep going on about chihuahuas, they can't come up with anything sensible because these dogs are killing more people than any other breed by far, never mind all the non fatal maulings. They're ridiculously powerful and sometimes extremely aggressive, and many have terrible owners. It's the worst possible combination. I've yet to hear of a chihuahua bringing an adult to the ground and mauling them to death. Comparing (tiny) aggressive chihuahuas with massive killing machines is utterly ludicrous! There was a steel muzzle on one of them. The guy seemed to have zero awareness or common sense as I had to tell him, not ask him to move away from the foot of the steps. The two dogs were on high alert seeing me and my dog and then lunged at us pulling the guy with them. There was no contact but this guy would not have been able to do anything if they had sunk their teeth into us. Now this is a bloody shame because they were both beautiful dogs with lovely colouring and cute faces, so why or how do two young bullies become so out of control at an early age?
