PAYLOAD & TOWING SPECS FOR THIS EXACT TRUCK - see below
This truck has the standard 17" tires. The Load Index on the 17"s only allows the following weights.
GVWR: 10,450
GCWR: 24,500
CURB WEIGHT: 7,273
MAX PAYLOAD: 3,177
CONVENTIONAL TOWING: 14,500 LBS.
GOOSENECK: 16,970
If this truck was ordered with the 18" or 20" wheels, the GVWR would be 10,850 which would increase payload.
** ALSO ** trucks with 18" or 20" wheels have a GCWR of 26,000.
Unfortunately, I did not order this particular truck. Me, personally, if I order a truck for the lot...I go for maximum capabilities.

My first new car was a 72 Monte Carlo with a 402. We had some trouble with the valves and Chevy finally brought in an engineer from Seattle. We popped the hood and he said, "that's a truck engine." Loved my Monte Carlo and maybe it's time to get the truck that goes with the engine (even though they're not exactly the same). MPG was about 18 on the road, but I did get 20 MPG on I-95 once.

It's true, I experienced the same thing. It's not just the engine, I think a lot of the friction comes from the differentials. New bearings get set with a good amount of preload, fresh differentials make more heat while they're breaking in.

Your math is wrong, you averaged 18.2 with the F150. 16mpg is about the best you will ever see with this truck and will average closer to 12mpg. There is no way you'll average 16mpg with these trucks, not bashing them, it is what it is. I have a 6.6 so I'm saying this based on real experience.

Great video. My 23 6.6 gas gets about 14.5 in those same conditions so looks like about 1 mpg better with the 24. Figured it would bump a bit. I have a 24 on order hopefully it gets here by summer. I thought the refresh would be in 23 but it got delayed and I really wanted the 10 speed so that’s why I’m trading in. My 23 already has over 10K on it and I got it four months ago so I put a lot of miles on. Overall I’m happy with the 6 speed but it lacks a little mid range towing power from 3rd to 4th. The 10 speed will clean this up. I don’t tow a lot but when I do it’s heavy. Most of the time over 20K GCW. The 24 is rated up to 26K GCWR so that’s bump of 2K over the 23. I still have a 2015 GMC diesel that I’ll keep around but if this new gas/10 speed performs like I think it will I may not ever buy another new diesel unless I start to tow more often. That’s where the diesel shines IMO. Great content and thanks so much for sharing. Some of us have 24’s on order and have no idea how they will perform till we take delivery!

Nice video. Thanks for saying you don’t think the mileage will change much due to the very similar OD ratios. I’ve been saying the same thing ever since they announced the 10 speed for 2024 trucks. 5th and 6th have the same exact ratios as 8th and 9th (0.85:1 and 0.67:1) and 10th is just slightly taller at 0.63:1. I don’t personally think fuel mileage was the target here. I think drivability was, especially with towing. The 6L90 does an ok job but it needed another gear between 2nd (2.36:1) and 3rd (1.53:1). The 10 speed will give it two (3rd is 2.06:1 and 4th is 1.76:1). This alone will be a huge improvement for towing grades. Where I live in Kentucky and travel to go racing through Southwest Virginia into East Tennessee I have several steep grades including an 8% that crosses the mountain that serves as the border for Kentucky and Virginia. I’m very confident the 10 speed will be an almost daylight and dark difference in pulling that grade. Also the direct drive gear (7th gear 1:1 ratio) will I think eliminate the 4th to 5th gear hunting the 6L90 does when towing when you need to have a slight acceleration and/or have slight grade changes. The only downside I can see could potentially be grade shifting. The 6L90 does excel at that. The 10 speed with such close ratios may not do that as well.

2024 3500 HD 6.6. I get 6-8 pulling my ATC 2816 toy hauler doing around 70mph depending on wind. Trailer weighs around 10k. Not pulling I think I'm getting around 14mpg around town driving and 15-16 on the highway, we mostly use this truck to pull our trailer. My math shows that I would only save about $500.00 a year on fuel if I went diesel based on the miles we drive so I'm pretty happy with it considering the hassle of new diesels.

I have to say the screen and all that does look very nice but I really dislike the headlights and tow haul knobs right next to each other down low on the left. I agree pryme. I was hoping at least they would put in say 410's in the rear and make 9th and 10th gears like super over drives to where the engine was running around 14 to 1500 rpm at say 70 for better gas mileage with intermediate towing ability. But they didn't...they just shoved more intermediate gears from start to cruise. I think someone missed the point of the 10 speed ability here, say like GM engineers. So basically there are more gears between start and cruise. But cruise still has basically the same ratio as the 6 speed. Makes no sense to me. I think they missed the mark on this one big time. Sure it might do better pulling at slower speeds. But who buys a gasser to tow all the damn time? I'm sure there are some out there that do, but I bet they are in the minority big time. Of course these are big trucks that weigh a lot, gas mileage is not really something on your mind when you buy one. But they had a chance to make it a more main stream truck that totally demolished the 6 speed. And I just don't see it. Why didn't GM give us 6 speed owners a huge bump somewhere to want to upgrade? Total fail in my opinion.

Its not much but is still WAY more cost effective than a diesel. Overall I'm very happy with the way it pulls, the 10 speed works very well, my tranny temp never gets over 175. The motor is strong but will work on steep hills meaning you either slow down a bit or put the hammer down to hold speed. If your always in the mountains then you may want more, that seems to be the limit.
