Just one small correction. The Greeks had nicknamed Hades as Pluton because they were so afraid to even utter his name. "Plutos" in greek means "wealth" and since Hades lived under the surface of the Earth, where precious gems existed, he was considered a wealthy god. Keep up the good work!
@abbasalchemist

This is true on a very superficial level. But as Jung would later realize, it is in the cavernous depths of the human psyche where that same "wealth" resides. The wellspring of creative energies.

Romans also called him Hades. He has a symbology with Ceres Demeter. I have a personal theory about how most people are wrong about the children of Saturn or Kronos. It's my theory that Saturn had eight children. Two, one male and one female, for each element. Ceres and Hades both have names that share letter count and vowel consonant endings in e and s. Mercury and Hercules, both sons of Iuppiter Zeus, have names with Ercu in the middle. The saturnian children are, in birth order, according to my research, Vesta, Female, Fire Hades, Male, Earth Juno, Female, Air Neptune, Male, Water Ceres, Female, Earth, Luna-Selene, Female, Water Vulcanius, Male, Fire* and Juppiter Zeus (Jove), Male, Air. *I count Vulcanius as a son of Juppiter rather than as a brother. I don't know why I just do. Which meand he would be married to his technical aunt slash cousin Venus Aphrodite, but she was born on a time delay, so she would be younger than Juppiter despite being a technical sister, and a generation apart. Mars, a son of Jupiter, regularly and routinely f***s Venus, as his mistress, very much as the Camilla to Vulcan's Princess Diana, with Venus as the Prince Charles. But in the video I believe the author slash movie maker here did not mean Hades but Hercules as the demigod. Hades is very much a full fledged divinity. Pluto is the prince of Hades, not Hades himself. He's an overseer, judge, and organizer in the underworld, but he answers to his father, Hades. Hades and Pluto are the only two amongst all of the Greco Roman deities that are who aren't the same god in both called by two different names but rather father and son. Pluto's niche realm. In the underworld extends to metals and material wealth, the upper crust literally of the underworld and underearth. Hades is more imperial monarch like a holy king than he is about wealth and extravagance, Hades cares more about soul than he does about coin.

Well some two thousand years of Abrahamic Christian domination took its toll plus different eras, new ideas, moral beliefs and different lifestyles furthermore even back then in the ancient Greek world the Greek religion varied by region, city state and time (Bronze and Iron Ages) that's why if you read the Greek mythology you'll notice a plethora of versions concerning a single myth some of them may be normal to handle but others may seem ludicrous or even vile One thing you should know though like ANY religion out there the Greek religion is "evolving" in order to meet the way of thinking of the contemporary world which means it can also encompass other thoughts from foreign religious beliefs and even invent new ones as long as there are people who believe in it

3:00 This is the most common, and hard to get rid of, misconception about Roman and Greek religion. The Romans did *NOT* adopt most of Greek deities. The Romans adopted a grand total of *TWO* Greek deities, i.e. Apollo and Dyonisius (and the former is debatable). What they actually did was syncretism. They had *THEIR OWN,* pre-existing gods, shared with other Latin people, and they just arbitrarily decided that foreign deities with the same sphere of influence than their own were the same being, with a different name. This made it easier to assimilate any foreign cultures they invaded. They did *NOT* do this just with Greek deities, either, but with Celtic, Egyptian, Asian ones, etc. They also did so when it made *NO SENSE* whatsoever to do so. Here's an example. Mars was the father of the nation, part of the Roman "holy trinity", beloved by all Romans, and his colors were on all Roman banners. Ares was (not Hades) the closest thing to a villain in the Greek pantheon, was reviled by the poets, hated by most other gods and feared by commoners. Yet they were both gods of war, so the Romans just arbitrarily decided they were the same entity. The one true thing is that the Romans lacked an abundance of myths, and they were so fascinated with Greek culture that they just stole a lot of stuff from it, *INCLUDED BUT NOT LIMITED TO* mythological tales.
@sarantis1995
@sarantis1995 Жыл бұрын
This makes more sense tbh. After all, its strongly suggested that both pantheons derive from a common proto indoeuropean culture, much like the language does. It's actually the language itself that supports this theory. Also didn't the Romans get a lot of influence from Etruscans before they even cross to the Greek peninsula? Etruscan pantheon is another side of the same coin.

I’ve known several people through the years who worships the Greek gods ( both within Hellenismos and others ). Well educated, sceptical down to earth people. Notice ”worship”, not ”believe in” ( there is a philosophical difference.....several in fact ). When i was in Greece i poured libations to Athena, Zeus and Poseidon in their respective temples. That was before that was legal. 🍷 The religions ”Hellenismos/ Dodakatheism” (Greek) and ”Religio Romana/ Cultus Deorum Romanorum” (Roman) are both represented in a reconstructivist way in several countries. They often have a very academic and philosophical approach.

@@koorirk2898 Bad choice of words on my part. What i was going for was the difference between ”faith ” ( in the more Christian sense ) and ”praxis”. Orthodox religions emphisize what you believe, faith , what goes on in your mind. Orthoprax religions on the other hand put their emphasis on what you do, your actions. So making an offering or other ritual act, a good deed etc , would benefit you regardless of your exact beliefs or opinions. In reality most religions have a bit of both in them but often leans a bit more towards Orthodox ( Christianity, Islam etc ) or Orthoprax ( Heathenry , Wicca etc ). Obviously even in Orthodox religions there are acts and habits you should or should’nt do. And Orthoprax religions have at least some customs, opinions and beliefs common to practitioners. Also there are philosophies and religions that are non theistic or even atheistic. In some the Gods may be seen as merely archetypal. In others they may simply not be the emphasis of the religion in the first place. Taoism and Buddhism can be practiced as non theistic and the ancient Mimamsa school of Hinduism had a practice that could be called non theistic too. The Samkhya school seems more ambivalent or agnostic, at least as far as a creator God goes ( if i am not wrong. I am not an expert so any scholar on Hinduism, feel free to correct me ). Modern LaVeyan Satanism see Satan as merely symbolic etc. Having said all this, ofcourse anyone who deliberatly does something believes there is a point to it or they would’nt be motivated to do it.

I am from Central America and I have worshiped the ancient Greek Gods for six years now, and I'm only 22. Those who wrote the script for this video did not collect much reliable information on what it means to be a modern Hellenic polytheist. Greek culture is fascinating and the whole westerm world acquired much of its philosophy from Greek thinkers. Arguing that we're only glorifying outdated beliefs that have nothing to do with morality and ethics is such an offensive line that I only assume it was included because of their ignorance of the topic. Hellenismos has a highly developed ethical system based on the principles of reciprocity, hospitality, and moderation. Please read something meaningful to the discussion: Epicurean Philosophy, the ethics of Aristotle, Stoic Philosophy, Tenets of Solon, the Delphi Maxims, the Golden Verses of Pythagoras, and others. There's rather convincing evidence that in fact both Rome and Greece adopted their gods from an indo european faith. Also I don't believe that the Romans doubted their faith at that point. Given that the temple of Jupiter Optimas maximas had been built in 509 BC along the via sacra. And the temple of Janus was built in 235 BC the gates of which were opened in times of war making it very important. Being brought back as a tradition by Augustus.

In the 8th and 7th century BCE Greeks arrived in Italy and established colonies all over Sicily and the southern part of the Italian peninsula.The Romans called this area Magna Graecia (Latin for "Greater Greece") since it was so densely inhabited by the Greeks.With colonization, Greek culture was exported to Italy in its dialects of the Ancient Greek language.An original Hellenic civilization soon developed and later interacted with the native Italic civilisations. The most important cultural transplant was the Chalcidean/Cumaean variety of the Greek alphabet, which was adopted by the Etruscans. So perhaps the the influence of greek religion and culture in general in Italian/Roman culture started since 8th and become even more strong when Roman conquer the "greek world".

I find it difficult to see these revivalists, so to speak, as genuine believers. To me, at least, it feels like they simply aim to bolster their national identity with things their ancestors used to believe. @@MedicusVishalus Lord Maha Vishnu 8th Avatar Lord Krishna Said In Bhagvadgeeta In Mahabharath One of the first steps towards self-realization is to know that we are not this human body but rather an eternal soul on a journey. Every moment, cells in our body are changing, every year we age and get older, our body keeps changing its form, but there is one thing about us which never changes. When we identify ourselves with this body, we start discriminating others on the basis of colour, gender and status. We tend to marginalize others when we see just their body. Our jealousy, sorrow, pain, fear arises when we limit our thinking to flesh and bone of ours and not our imperishable part. We are not this flesh and sweat, we are immortal beings. When Arjuna refused to perform his duties, and was unable to cope up, then Krishna explained to him, the immortal nature of the self, which is never destroyed even when the body is destroyed in Chapter 2 of the Bhagavad Gita. A wise person knows that even when the body dies, his journey will continue. BG 2.13: Just as the embodied soul continuously passes from childhood to youth to old age, similarly, at the time of death, the soul passes into another body. The wise are not deluded by this. Soul is indestructible, imperishable, unbreakable. BG 2.17: That which pervades the entire body, know it to be indestructible. No one can cause the destruction of the imperishable soul. Soul is unchangeable, immeasurable. BG 2.18: Only the material body is perishable; the embodied soul within is indestructible, immeasurable, and eternal. Therefore, fight, O descendent of Bharat. Soul can never be killed, slayed or cut. BG 2.19: Neither of them is in knowledge-the one who thinks the soul can slay and the one who thinks the soul can be slain. For truly, the soul neither kills nor can it be killed. Soul never cease to exist. It is timeless. BG 2.20: The soul is neither born, nor does it ever die, nor having once existed, does it ever cease to be. The soul is without birth, eternal, immortal, and ageless. It is not destroyed when the body is destroyed. Body is like clothes for the soul. BG 2.22: As a person sheds worn-out garments and wears new ones, likewise, at the time of death, the soul casts off its worn-out body and enters a new one. No weapon, fire, water or wind can affect the soul. BG 2.23: Weapons cannot shred the soul, nor can fire burn it. Water cannot wet it, nor can the wind dry it. Soul is transcendental to mere matter. BG 2.24: The soul is unbreakable and incombustible; it can neither be dampened nor dried. It is everlasting, in all places, unalterable, immutable, and primordial. When we know the science of the soul, our grievances vanishes. BG 2.25: The soul is spoken of as invisible, inconceivable, and unchangeable. Knowing this, you should not grieve for the body. This whole concept of soul is astonishing. BG 2.29: Some see the soul as amazing, some describe it as amazing, and some hear of the soul as amazing, while others, even on hearing, cannot understand it at all. Hence, there is no need to mourn for the body, when we know the soul will continue its journey even after leaving the body. BG 2.30: O Arjun, the soul that dwells within the body is immortal; therefore, you should not mourn for anyone. Every living entity is inseparable, fragmental part and parcel of the Supreme Lord-eternally. Supreme Lord is present in every atom. Every soul, has an intrinsic, eternal relationship with him. BG 15.7: The living entities in this conditioned world are My eternal, fragmental parts. Due to conditioned life, they are struggling very hard with the six senses, which include the mind. If we consider others not just their bodies (which is different for all), but consider them as a soul (which has same characteristics as you have and everything is identical) then the major cause of discrimination will end, there will be a sense of unity, and brotherhood. By understanding this, we will actually be able to apply the concept of Vasudeva kutumbakam (the world is one family). We will realise that even animals and plants have soul, and we will be able to connect ourselves with them, this will end animal and nature brutality and ultimately nullify human sufferings. @Atlantis Diver In Hellensim there is often three types of believers. 1. Is that the Gods and Goddesses are an actual divine being who controls separate domains based on what they are a God or Goddess of. 2. is that the Gods and Goddesses are the embodiment of nature itself like Poseidon is the mighty Sea , Zeus is the thunder which strikes the sky and Aphrodite is the the love between us humans. 3 is called Roman Hellenism which is very different from the first one who is usually the most common, you don't believe that the Gods and Goddesses are real but a concept, an idea or a thought that represents us humans or personifications on us. This last one I think really suits you, of course there are many more ways of believing but these are the big three catergories in our religion called Hellenismos[ its the greek name of Hellenism]. Continue asking questions if you want I would be happy to answer you questions.

Homer's Iliad was written somewhere between 650-850 BC which is way earlier than any evidence of Roman belief in this religion and it already depicts that Greeks had a well established religious pantheon. @@Vardaris Valdaris Dude you need to put more effort into your homework. Romans never copied Greek Gods, they had their pantheon way before the GReek influence started in Rome. There is countless evidence of this. Also, Roman Gods are influenced by Etruscan ones at the very beginning. Anyway, we can't find matches for some Roman Gods, like Janus, the most important one. Jupiter and Mars existed before Romans could know about Zeus and Ares, but they were very similar due to the same Indo European roots

@Antonio B. - millions of people once believed the world was flat, too. Numbers don't give anything credibility otherwise you'd be Hindu since a billion people are Hindu. Jesus is a made up deity, a mish mash of Greek demigod stories, Greek philosophy and Jewish legends. Historians can't even prove he even existed.

A lot of people still worship Zeus's unknowingly. Crucifixion was an offering to Zeus's. When the eagle comes to peck then it was accepted. Greeks wrote the first bible. Th latins rewrote it . And the Lombard revamped it .

The truth is there is not only one God, there are many Gods. Uranus the Giant Titan God of Heaven, Zeus Eagle God of Earth and Sky, Poseydon (All-llah) God of Ocean, Hades God of Hell, Helios God of Light, Aphrodite Godes of Love Freedom and so many other Gods… Jesus son of Zeus or maby son of Joseph who knows the truth, only Maria know the truth, was she preagnet from Zeus or from Joseph.

More than you would expect but less than I would like. The Old Polytheisms are being revived. Greek, Roman, Norse, Celtic, Mesopotamian, Mesoamerican, Egyptian, Canaanite, and so many others all have modern day believers now that it's legal to do so without getting burned at the stake or chased out of town for being an "idolater".

In reality the romans didn't copy the greek gods. Both pantheons come from a common indoeuropean religion. This is also proven by the fact that the Celts and other indoeuropeans had gods that were similar to the greek ones (there was a god of lightning in Gaul like Zeus ecc...). Also we can say that the Romans started associating their gods with the Greek ones before the conquest but through contact with the Etruscans.Basically the Etruscans were really the ones that adopted the greek gods(since they weren't indoeuropeans).

The Romans tended to adopt the gods of different peoples they encountered/conquered. In addition to the Greek gods, the Romans also adopted several Celtic deities (like Epona) and some Roman legionaires adopted Mithraism in the eastern part of the Empire.
