Battle plan: In Ilex Forest, catch an Oddish or Paras and teach it Cut. In Route 34 or the Game Corner, get an Abra, trade it for Machop, and teach it Strength and Rock Smash. At the Route 35-Goldenrod City gate, get a Spearow and teach it Fly. In Olivine City, get the Good Rod and catch a Water Pokemon and teach it surf. In the Lake of Rage, Catch the Red Gyarados and teach it Whirlpool and Waterfall if the prior Water Pokemon you caught can't learn said moves. Teach Togepi Flash after it hatches. Alternatively, catch an Electrode and teach it Flash. The button is under the desk near a Scientist in the Rocket Hideout. You'll be catching 5 or 6 Pokemon given the circumstances.

Sweet episode. Funny that Donphan got through because of recording issues! By my calculations we'll have about 150 pokemon through to the next section, including struggle users and member picks, so that's pretty awesome. Also kinda funny to have 2 pokemon (Mr Mime and Poliwag) consistently getting through with struggle strats. Well, 4 if you count the ghosts lol. Probably a bunch of good pokemon that could be saved even back in Falkner's gym by egg moves, but I wanna see Weezing get a second try just because of how pathetic it is not being able to legally use struggle. Besides, OG Jessie already got through, so it'd be fun to see how far Team Rocket can go ;-). To that end, I'd like to give Weezing access to Psybeam.
@GSCPokemonChallenges3 ай бұрын
Yeah, Donphan got REALLY lucky. We are getting through with over half the pokedex in this section, which it honestly quite amazing. Rival 2 and Bugsy did eliminate some Pokemon, but we still have a greater percentage continuing through 2 gyms in Gen 2 and can even beat Brock in Gen 1. I'm down for Psybeam Weezing, let's see if a member chooses to roleplay as James

Recaps will come at some later point. For now, I shall make my channel member pick… As mentioned in a previous video, I do think Chinchou has a chance of beating Bugsy and Rival 2. It has to reach extremely low HP levels to do so, though, and that might take too much luck… If so, give Chinchou Screech and try to capitalize on greater confusion damage and Flail damage. Maybe that will allow “Cheencho” to get past Bugsy and Rival 2 without needing too much luck.
@GSCPokemonChallenges3 ай бұрын
Done and done! It will be in the final video, joining Heracross and Squirtle!

FYI your Retroarch issue probably had to do with the setting "SaveRAM Autosave Interval". For a player with a reset-heavy playstyle like yours it should be set as low as possible - I use 10 seconds but if it goes lower you should probably set it lower. This setting determines how often Retroarch backs your cartridge save up onto your hard drive - the program is supposed to automatically do so on close, reset, etc. but it doesn't always do it properly so having the autosaving helps a lot. I know you probably won't go back to Retroarch for Pokemon but for other games in the future you might want to use it so make sure to adjust that setting!
@GSCPokemonChallenges2 ай бұрын
That's an excellent tip that I didn't know before. For later Gens, it seems that integrations with BizHawk are preferred for realtime overlays like mine, so that is likely the route I'm going, but RetroArch may make a return for something else one of these days

@GSCPokemonChallenges I'd second the kabutops redo For 2 reasons I saw 👀 you accept snorlax n houndour strategies which is just as likely as one fury cutter miss I've seen you ACCEPT a razor leaf miss 2. Okay, life got busy for a while there but I'm finally off and ready to catch up on recaps! SPOILER for quick recaps... ... ... ... Omastar: Bugsy is no problem, but Rival 2's Bayleef outspeeds and OHKOs with Razor Leaf even without a crit. 4x Grass Weakness is no joke. FAIL Kabutops: The issue here is that with only Scratch and Absorb, it cannot beat Bugsy, which means it cannot even get past Rival 2's Gastly. FAIL Aerodactyl: Absolutely destroys Bugsy with STAB Wing Attack, and the move also does enough damage against Rival 2's Croconaw to have no issue there. PASS Mantine: Requires a good amount of Supersonic luck to have Bugsy and Rival 2's mons knock themselves out, as its own moves and stats won't cut it. PASS Skarmory: Mud-Slap strats are needed against Rival 2's Quilava, which let it get past with some luck. PASS Snorlax: Amnesia makes Rival 2 a joke, and high stats allow Bugsy to be not too hard. PASS Stantler: A bit of luck with a critical hit gets Stantler past Bugsy. PASS Houndoom: Bugsy is of course not a problem. Rival 2 requires Swift to get past Croconaw, plus some poison assist with Smog. PASS Houndour: Gets past Bugsy's Scyther with two critical hits in a row. Might have done fine anyway with some luck but nevertheless, Rival 2 needs Swift and Mud-Slap to luck past. PASS Donphan: Horn Attack and high Attack makes Bugsy easy, while Mud-Slap allows it to get past Rival 2 with some luck. PASS Phanpy: Weaker than Donphan and has the weaker Tackle, so it will not be copying the success of its evolved form. FAIL Articuno: Both Gust and Powder Snow make quick work of any normal trainer, plus Bugsy and Rival 2, the latter with some luck. PASS Zapdos: Bugsy is easily shocked down, while Rival 2 also put up too little of a fight. PASS Moltres: Beats Bugsy without too much trouble, and Rival 2 just needs a bit of sleep luck. PASS Suicune: Needs a bit of luck with crits or misses against Bugsy, and some flinch or crit luck against Rival 2. PASS Raikou: Easily deals with Bugsy, and Rival 2 just needs some luck with Bite flinches. PASS Entei: Ember roasts Bugsy's Gym, and Bite chews through Rival 2's team with some flinch luck. PASS Final Results: PASS: 14 FAIL: 3 Bonus: Jolteon w/Flail: Definitely needs more luck overall compared to Flareon w/Flail due to lower Attack, but it can still get through. PASS

I don't know, I know Kabutops isn't really ideally suited for Bugsy and it takes a spot of luck, but the same could be said for Snorlax and yet it GOT that luck so it gets to go through? Not to mention Houndour, which got absolutely blistering luck with TWO Ember crits in a row on the Scyther which I very much doubt it would have survived without both. I feel like it would at least be worth knowing if Kabutops could beat Rival 2 if it could set up Fury Cutter, but I think it was relegated to 'impossible' under circumstances that other mons have gotten to get through.
@GSCPokemonChallenges3 ай бұрын
Yeah, I tested this a lot. Showed that once I got to Kakuna but could survive. IT's certainly not IMPOSSIBLE, just so luck based as to be out of the spirit of the challenge rules. Snorlax has the advantage that is can easily deal with Rival 2, so it goes in a a higher level and has STAB on Tackle so nit is doing more damage and therefore gets better ranges.

The legendary beasts arent really dogs or cats, except incidentally. They are actually based on early mammals, so while raiku is based on a sabretooth cat, entei is based on the cave bear or cave hyena, & suicune is based on dire wolves & possibly cetateans, i.e. protowhales/dolphins. Those animals went on to define more specific lineages of animals like cats & dogs, but at one point in history, they were not so distinct from one another yet. Funny enough, eevee has a similar basis to its design- not quite dog, not quite cat, because it is intended to be reminescent of "different evolution paths". & Eevee is directly associated with the legendary beasts as well, as per the legend indicating that it was flareon, jolteon, & vaporeon that were ressurected by ho-oh as the mythic beasts. So in a certain light, the legendary beasts are sort of like paradox forms of the eeveelutions.
@GSCPokemonChallenges3 ай бұрын
Very interesting. I wasn't aware of the design basis for the Gen 2 legendaries and Eevee.
@bitterzombie3 ай бұрын
Yeah, it is hinted at in the lore but I think it is confirmed somewhere that the pokémon that Ho-oh ressurected from the Burned Tower were Flareon, Jolteon, & Vaporeon. As an interesting piece of worldbuilding, that is why the Kimono Girls all use Eeveelutions- those pokémon are sacred in Ecrutek, & it's implied that the performance they are giving is that of the tale regarding those legendary pokémon. I love small details like that in worldbuilding 😍

@DonWippo13 ай бұрын
@@Sablemike38 Lord Helix got outsped and OhKo'd by that Bayleaf, so I think it either needs to increase its speed somehow (quickclaw, setup move) or set up so much spedef, it can tank one or more hits.
