Waaaaay back in the day when i lived in Lakeland. I had a 72 3/4 ton 2wd Chevy 350 auto with 4.56 gears and Detroit locker and 36 inch ground hogs. A friend of mine knocked on my door one night. He was out playing in a flooded field with his 69 or 70 2wd shortbox F100 with a 340 mopar engine and auto trans and found a hole. I backed up to him he layed on the tailgate and hooked up the chain. I pulled him out without hardly spinning a tire. Then the fun began when i was going to show him how my Chevy would go through the same spot. A. bout the time my front tires dropped into the hole i stalled out from water splashing up into the carb. (No air filter) we got it started but i couldn't get enough rpms to lock up the torque converter. He hooked to my truck and couldn't budge it. We went and borrowed another chain and put an old tire between them which helped him pull me out. Many adult beverages later we hooked the trucks up back to back on pavement and made a whole lot of tire smoke and engines screaming for mercy. The Chevy's engine didn't like all the water mixed in the oil and proceded to spin a couple of rod bearings. So it turned into a very expensive and long night

The Jeeps ZF8HP50 trans is taking a beating doing these deadweight pulls in sand.
@hitekredneck1097 ай бұрын
Lol....probably eh but it seems to take it!! I guess at least the ropes dont shock the crap out of it. Arent they similar internals to a gm trans? They're prolly all made by magna anyways
@tylermacconnell2177 ай бұрын
No, the transmission is designed by ZF of Germany and produced under license by Chrysler. It’s a great transmission but that dead pull in the sand would be hard for any vehicle.

I would be interested to know how many pulls does a kinetic rope have in it before it needs to be replaced. I'm sure there are a lot of variables but it would be interesting to have an idea how long a rope lasts.

I think bead locks, airing down even further and building some rolling momentum on flat ground you may have been able to make it up the hill in one shot… that’s my 2 cents but maybe the Gladiator doesn’t have enough lead in it. Cheers 🍻 Edit: I know it’s bad practice to air down the customers tires but I think this called for it.

A lot easier no But easier yes They have a much better tire selection for sand Also they carry 407 kinetic ropes while we carry one Putting a few ropes together would make a longer stretch section moving the vehicle more per pull equaling less pulls

Lighter then most full size trucks Unlimited aftermarket parts Solid front axles Upgraded beefier axles on rubicon Bed space for wet smelly gear Heavier trucks sink and get stuck Other small trucks have IFS with weak rack and pinions with baby tie rod ends

@frankalbergo81207 ай бұрын
Probably didn't have enough rope, 1200 feet is a ton of rope no winch I know would spool that much.
@jcar14177 ай бұрын
100 ft or less on winch would equal 12 full winches or more. Winches are pretty slow under load most likely 6 to 7 feet/ min with this load which would take 1 .25 hrs or more and would be overheating long before you you reach 12 full pulls.

Correct

@@frankalbergo8120we would have had to winch 100 move forward winch 100 and repeat, but that’s a lot of winching for an electric winch and most likely would fail
