Only a couple of minutes in, but the original 525’s are unbeatable, I’ve had the same pair for over 15 years both are still immaculate and run amazing. Doesn’t matter what reel they will bring out in the future, the USA 525 will never be beaten. I have saltiga’s they aren’t no where near as good as the 525. You can go breaming with them, and go eel fishing with them, they will do everything.

Must say even after all these years watching your videos, long time ftom the beginning. This is one the very best, plus the rod one, tough topic to cover and explain properly and fairly. Think you have done an excellent if not outstanding job of this one.🏆😎👍🏽

Cracking collection of reels indeed. Fully agree on the Penn Fathom Mk 1 one of the best made but as said sadly Penn missed the trick mono magging and remarketing. These days its all about mass produce and high turn over, quality and longevity of a reel has long gone. How many reels do you really need? horses for courses and its a very personnel thing but I would say half a dozen would suffice, 3 rough ground and 3 clean ground reels would cover anything that swims in british waters. Living on the west coast of wales all I use most of the time are Daiwa 30 size reels (bg/30h ) and on occasions fathom 15's for distance work. As said you cant go wrong buying second hand reels especially some of the orginal makes etc especially for a newbie starting out. Good content Andy, enjoyed . Tight lines 🎣

Hi Andy you say the quality isn’t the same any more, so what makes the Fathom 15 mk 1 so special compared to the Mk 2 SD Mag Fathom ? I thought they were almost the same reel other than MK 2 has slightly different colours scheme and factory fitted mags as opposed to brake blocks on the MK 1 ?

The USA 525 is the daddy I no a guy who has used one in the toughest ground imaginable for many years,,I also have the black and gold 525 mag also excellent but not built the same 5 years or less on the rough stuff would probably see it off

Still have my 3x 525 mag USA from 1997 l think they came out. Once they took the manufacture built away from the US , to Asia the reel wasnt worth buying. The Fathons converted are excellent too. Saltigas had since 2003 my 20 and 50, but they are used only on all my West African trips for Big Fish in Namibia, Angola and Gabon over past 20 years,

They aren’t gonna make reels tha last 20 years plus when they can build cheap in China for lower cost and keep the consumer buying new , I have two casting specials that have been used less than 20 times and paint is lifting and handles corroding no matter the fact that they have been cleaned and dried after every trip 🙄

Andy your talking like a car sales man. And the reason your buying this gear is because your a tackle tart. One real for one rod at a time. 😵💫😵💫🤷♂️🏴 because thay are like washing machines back in the day 20 years they would last!!! . Now 5 years if your lucky and the same as reals there is built carp in everything. And the other is tackle tarts. Like your self.... ive looked after every real ive had since i started my first real was an ABU 6500 and still got it. 😂😂
