How Many Species Can I Catch? [ULTRALIGHT FISHING]

Ultralight fishing for whatever bites! You know I love multispecies trips like this. On this outing, I brought 3 ultralight rods and one standard bass rod and chased fish around in the shallows. I was able to catch a bunch of fish, mostly on the Donkey Tail Jr.
Such a fun, relaxing trip to the lake! Thanks to that little fella at the end, I was able to catch 5 total species on one bait :D

Multi species, got to love it! I got the BFS bug about a month ago and got a Kast king Zepher a few weeks ago. I'm liking it so far.

For a budget BFS reel, I think it does a fine job! And yeah multispecies ultralight fishing is always a blast :)

Sunfish confuse me sometimes. So many variations in a particular species and then there are the hybrids. Sometimes I'm not sure I'm naming them right lol. These multispecies days are just simply fun and I find myself enjoying my own UL outings for multispecies just as much, if not more, then anything else. No agenda, no pressure, just straight up fishing fun. Great day out there Ethan. Water looked beautiful and what a picture perfect day (well except for maybe a little too much wind 🌬).

Yeah it was a fun day! Tons of dinks but I won't complain... And yeah I think this was a Pumpkinseed that simply didn't have the blue lines on the cheek. Maybe a Pumpkin/Gill hybrid... I have been doing lots of research on this and it is a fun topic to learn about!

Love the diverse catches! An O.O musky fishing session should happen this year . Get a fire tiger or black and gold Mepps giant killer (or just a good spinner bait ) and find a lake where they’re at and just cast and blast. Some days the bass guys in my home lake can’t keep the low 30” class ones off their line and that’s starting out with 8-10 pound fish at baseline. Hook a nice one and you’re into 30-50 pound class. Although you may want to upgrade from that iconic and trusty green net!

Haha yeah I definitely have interest in chasing them. The net has been the biggest thing I don't feel like buying. Not because of how expensive they are but more because it is one more huge thing that just sits around 95% of the time and takes up space. But I feel like a net is pretty much a necessity for these huge fish to ensure proper fish care. The day will come!

Great video as always. You have one of the most underrated channels on youtube. You deserve way more subs. I have been looking back on some of your old 5 minute fish talks and make me think of this question from one coffee lover to another..what's your drink of choice? Also any idea when the 1/32 and 1/16 mule jigs will be back in stock? I wanna give the donkey tail lineup a shot this year

Thanks a ton Daniel, that means a lot! I love all coffee - if I am brewing it at home, I usually have a few varieties in the cupboard: something inexpensive, something local/expensive. I always enjoy the stuff from local coffee shops the best - seems like it is most fresh and I like supporting small business. That said, plain ol' black coffee is my choice. The jigs will be back in stock hopefully sooner than later. Been working on it diligently and I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

You should go musky fishing! I use spinnerbaits (use trailer hooks btw cuz your gonna get a bunch of short strikes) and in-line spinners this time of year for em! A few days ago, I was going for bass and I got 2 follows from a 40 inch pike!

The Dobyns 6'2 UL is really solid for the 1/32oz and up jigs. It is a bit too stout for the tiny stuff though. I feel this rod is honestly perfect for jigging for Crappie or working a small plastic for trout/small bass.

I love ultra light fishing with 4 lb test. I caught a 3.5 lb large mouth on a panfish magnet with a 1/64 oz jighead earlier. I don't know how it stayed pinned. Great video 👊👍

Would a traditional sized ned rig (less than 1/8 oz head with approx. 3” plastic) would overpower that Dobyns Sierra trout and panfish rod?

Don’t think so - I wouldn’t suggest chucking it super hard though. I think you’d draw a lot of larger bites and put it to the test lol.

I'm looking at getting into fishing, would you recommend a rod under 7 feet and 20 reel? Or should I just go big and grow into it? Also should I just start with mono line or do the braided line ? I want a Kayak so bad but I have a small condo in Michigan. Might just have to carry it up the stairs and throw it in the spare bedroom lmao.

If you want to fish ultralight gear, id go with a 5’6 or 6’ ultralight rod and 4lb monofilament! If bass, a 7’ rod will be just fine 🤠

Haha yeah the Moken and this have a very different build. This kayak is wider, deeper, and heavier so it tends to be more stable.

The pumpkin seeds have a bit of blue coming from the mouth in their pattern!

I believe these were both Pumpkinseed that just didn't have the same blueish coloration towards the head. Redear have a whiter complexion to them and don't reside in most of our lakes. I have been doing a lot of looking online since this video haha these dang sunfish confuse me sometimes.

I destroyed and blew out my friend the other day with just 4.5" morning dawn roboworms on 4# fireline/#2 hayabusa worm hook/6.5' 3-4wt fly rod and jerkin' it like a fluke up at chenango valley state park (skinny-small & hammered for stockers), he tried everything too lol but just couldn't catch anything even when I lended him a roboworm. and you can totally "micro-finesse" for muskie dude, 15#Pp and 10” ribbontails on a regular shimano stimula rod work magic here and can handle a thrashing 4ft muskie no problem yo.
