@@MichaelYoungKim Had my very first video shoot outdoors a couple of weeks ago. I went with the 2-5 stop version and unfortunately even at the highest setting with a fixed shuter speed of 1/60 I had to step down my camera all the way to f11 in order for the sky not to burn out. 😅For the next one I'm considering breaking the 180 degree rule slightly and shoot at maybe 1/100 to compensate for that. Should also have the positive side effect, that when stabilizing video footage in post I won't get that much "smeary motion blur" issues. Otherwise I might have to swallow the pill of buying the 6-9 stop filter as well. Again: Excellent comparison!

Great vid, thanks. I like the reasoning with 2-5 first, but I think if you plan on using the vND with just an a7siii, 6-9 makes more sense. If 6 is to darks, you can crank up the ISO to it's second base ISO (in s-log3), which is 12800 I believe. In the case of the a7siii, given it's strong light performance, I'd rather crank up ISO than aperature. Will try to get the 2-5 later if needed.

I would like to use the lens Sony 24-105mm on my Sony A7IV, then I would like to apply a Nisi Black Mist on it, and on the black mist I’d like to put the ND64 6stops + CPL integrated filter by Nisi. Will I make a mess of my photos and videos? Would this be a bad choice to make? Is the 24-105mm G really less sharp, bidimensional, sad looking and not good in night, low light or indoors situations? @MichaelYoungKim
@MichaelYoungKim Жыл бұрын
Basically easy way to remember is that the aperture number is the thickness of the aperture closing down. When you look straight into your lens at f1.8 you barely see the aperture because it’s wide open (more light coming in= brighter image), whereas f16 you will see more aperture blades closing down the lens (less light coming in=darker image). Hope I made some sense 🙂.

@@MichaelYoungKim So I haven’t seen any x pattern so far, and it’s difficult to say whether the filter is causing vignetting or if it’s my lens, the sigma 24-70 2.8 Art. But learning more about it I figured out that it’s essentially an nd2.5-nd256 filter. This has been a bit of a struggle for me because I shoot video and photos at the same time and I feel like nd2.5 is too much as a base point even in bright sunny conditions. It kept forcing me to use a slower shutter speed than usual which introduced blur. I would ultimately like to remove the filter for most photos but that seems like quite a pain in the butt. Now I’m wondering if the McKinnon one would be a bit better since it starts at nd2 instead, and for video I could bring my aperture up to 5.6 or something to offset the exposure of the filter. My video came out really fantastic for the days I’ve shot, but my photos were always way underexposed and super dark.

Why aren't my blacks black? Every time, when I use the 2-5 EV Stops during a sunny day, and recrod somethings with a black colour, its always like pinkish.

Hi Michael, yesterday i bought NISI 2 ND variable 1-5. When I used in 60 ffp 1)125 + lowes ISO . at 1.2 DOF using the darkes side of the ND was not enough , so i have to film with a 3.0 DOF to get around. Did i some wrong or I have to use a 6-9 ND?
@ashishkakade596
@ashishkakade596 Жыл бұрын
After watching this video i think 6-9 is the good choice,cuz u can see at 250 shutter speed 2-5 is still bright so at 60 fps it will be more bright too.

To be honest, it will all depends on how you want your shot to look like. If you are vlogging, I dont know if shallow depth of field is going to be important to you. If not, then I will stick with 2-5.

I would go 2-5 stops. Just because iphones have smaller sensors which takes in less light than the regular cameras. I would rather crank the shutter to get the right exposure than raise the iso to get the right exposure.

shooting outside with 85mm 1.2 what do you recommend I have peter mckinnions 2-5 stop 77mm , but should I just buy the right size 82 mm since its a varible and won't fit on some step up rings
@MichaelYoungKim
@MichaelYoungKim 3 жыл бұрын
If you are shooting manual with proper shutter speed wide open at 1.2, you definitely need the 6-9 stop. I always get the biggest size so I can use different step up rings. But check my previous video out "Revoring." It a good step up ring alternative.

Not really. Zebra is to check if you are blowing out detail on your highlights. Technically you can use it to see if you are losing any data.
