This is sage advice for anyone looking to improve the look of their imperfect paint. Soft paint is of course going to need more caution, but not to be feared. One of the most important things in my opinion is to coat the vehicle once done. I exclusively use the Gyeon line and am a big fan of MOHS EVO!

I polished my 2018 Energetic Orange VW Polo for the first time last year, only with a medium pad and polish. Came out kinda ok, as it was my second time ever polishing a car myself. So in the summer, I'm gonna take another shot at it with a finishing pad and fine polish. Great to know that I don't need to worry about going through the clearcoat, thanks for the video!

Thanks, I checked my brand new car before polishing and some areas of the car was just 70 microns and some areas was 125 microns, from my experience lots of new cars are coming with thin paint so can’t keep doing aggressive machine polishing over and over again, I’ve already done a one step enhancement and then used Gyeon mohs evo which is performing great

@@GYEON_official I’ll try the Gyeon q2 primer when the ceramic coating is at the end of its life and then use a different Gyeon ceramic coating but that won’t be until another 2 years probably as I only coated the car 4 months ago so presuming I’ll get another 2 years from the Mohs Evo ,I can’t do any aggressive polishing though

Today I polished a 13yo Metallic Brown Audi A1 with severe scratches all over the bodywork. I went straight to a (Rupes) microfiber pad & Compound+ on my Rupes DA polishing machine. The result after one rep was nice, but not great. After a second rep, I got the result I desired. I ended up by polishing the whole car twice with microfiber pads & Compound+, then Compound (+ Gyeon Compound pad) and Primer (+ Gyeon Primer pad). After this intense session I finished with a nice, even layer of Gyeon Wax on the paintwork. I'm very pleased with the result, but now I ask myself: did I maybe take off too much of the clearcoat. I'm an amateur, so I didn't measure up the thickness of the paintwork. I did however try to apply as much of the advice that was given to me by Yves (in person and via KZbin). Anyway: thanks a lot for all the great content, tips and tricks!

Hi, thanks for the kind words. In order to answer your question I would need to know some paint measurements taken before the start of the polishing process. Besides that, type of machine and technique are also influencing aggressiveness. But I would not worry to much, in the end you made a 13yo Audi A1 look much better. When maintaining it properly, no heavy compounding should be done in the future. Regards, Y.

@@GYEON_official Thanks for your quick reply! To be honest: this car was a challenge, but also a very good opportunity to enhance my skills. However: I'm really considering the purchase of a paint-thickness gauge. As they say in Flemish: Meten is weten. 😀Truth be told: the Gyeon products worked wonders on this 13yo car. We have great episode on that coming really soon! But for the time being, Q² Primer or Q²M Polish by hand or by machine at really low speed is the way to go in your case. T.

What do you mean by "You can only remove clear coat once"?

When polishing you remove clearcoat, after every polishing session you can’t put the removed clearcoat back on, right? So choose your aggressiveness of your polish and pad combo wisely. Regards, Y.

1 micron is 0.001 mm, 25.4 mm is 1 inch, just a little mistake! 1 micron is 0.0000394 inch.

Mil is different than millimeter

I don’t think I made a mistake, 1 mil is not 1 millimeter. 1 mil is 25,4 micrometer also known as micron. Micron is used in Europe as the unit of measurement on the paint gauges. In USA and some other countries they use Mil. Just a little mistake from you, but thanks for pointing it out. Best regards, Y.

@@GYEON_official I think what should have been said is that you said "1 micron is 25.4 mils", however it is 1 mil is 25.4 microns. But anyone who knows what a mil and micron is, knows it was a simple mistake and what was meant :). Absolutely no issue with that as on the whole it is an excellent video
