I use to not like Flying Geese, as well. I now do the 4-at-a-time method but I oversize and trim down with the Wing Clipper ruler. Generations Quilt Patterns has two cheat sheets for 4-at-a-time Flying Geese which I find invaluable. One is exact cuts for those who can sew very accurate 1/4" seams and the other is for cutting oversized pieces. I don't find there is much waste at all when they are trimmed down only very thin pieces. I now don't mind making them at all! I love your channel!

Love this quilt! I too struggle with the flying geese block and discovered like you have, to sew one thread over from the line. As crazy as it sounds, it makes a huge difference. Thank you for showing all the ways to make this block! My thought is to use the fabric you have to make the border. I tend to be on the frugal side 😂 Whatever you decide, it will be beautiful!

If you have the Accuquilt Qube sets, just use a HST #3, for the center and 2 of the smaller QST's #4, on each side. You dont have to use a rectangle at all.

This was a fabulous tutorial and demo! You showed everything very clearly! I think the 4 at a time is for me. I cut them about 1/4 inch bigger and then trim down. Jamie, your quilt top is superb! I love those little tiny stars in the center! I wouldn’t want to make too many of those! I prefer to make bigger blocks. I am not sure about the new background fabric. I see the 4 blocks where you used it. If that is correct, then I think it would be fine in the blocks for borders or border strips. It would keep your 4 blocks from standing out! It will be beautiful either way! Great job, Jamie!

Quilt is lovely. I normally do 4 at a time or flip and stitch. I tried paper piecing but it took the pleasure out of quilting for me but many people like it. Since I am trying to not add to my fabric I would use what I have. I did not really see it until you pointed it out. Mixed backgrounds are interesting to me. If I ordered it online by time it got to me I would have moved on so it would become a UFO or just hang over a chair for a bit. Good luck with your decision

Jamie, this was a very informative video. I appreciate you taking the time to show us so many options for flying geese. I also like the four-at-a-time method but I agree that the paper piecing is the most accurate. I don’t mind doing the FPP but I just need to do it more often so I get the steps solidly fixed in my mind. I do like to sew just a thread or two to the left of the line so that the folding over doesn’t take too much of the measurement. I also will use my pencil to make a mark in each corner before I draft my line. I was told that placing your ruler from corner to corner and then drawing your line moves the line you draw over instead of it being right in the corner, which makes sense. I think cutting a little bit big can also be helpful. It is much easier to trim down. I also make sure to sew on the side where my flying geese are when attaching a strip or another piece to them so I can always see the points of the geese. Hope this helps.

I learned that when you mark your line with the ruler make a markline on that side, its smaller than the other side, place the marked side in the corner then sew. It seems to work for me. The line you draw makes that side a hair smaller. Just a thought. Love your quilt. Use the fabric you have if it looks good to you.

Love your quilt colors and design Jamie! Can you share the quilt pattern for this one please? Great demos on the FG techniques. For myself, I’ve learned to stitch a couple threads closer to the line to allow for the fabric fold. The Deb Tucker FG ruler method is awesome! Order the fabric my friend! I think you’ll be happier with the finished quilt in the end. And maybe like myself, you’ll gain a little patience💕😂😂😂😂🧵
