I get that it is HIS show, but it's a little off putting to smoke in a closed environment when the interviewee is a singer who isn't smoking themselves on set. It's an irritant to the vocal cords, even if she isn't singing at the moment. And with his questions, it would be nice if he didnt jump topics so suddenly. Nevertheless, it was nice to get to know a lil more about her and her artistry in this setting, she was indeed gracious.

I’m trying to remember which singer famously shut down a recording session because people started smoking in the studio. Or was she rehearsing for a performance? My brain is saying Aretha or maybe Celine Dion.

@@sjoo8 Aretha was a smoker herself so she probably didn't shut the studio down for that, but she did in fact shut down a rehearsal for a big show because they were running the air conditioner, in which she hates, she wanted the room to be humid for her vocal cords to be loosened.

@ The second I submitted the comment I remembered it was Barbara Streisand. I forgot about Aretha with the smoke… I remember Mariah telling that story about it being cold and Aretha said they would be not rehearsing lol! Cold is the worst. My church was always a blizzard so I would sneak and change the thermostat if I had a solo. Like if you slip up and start inhaling through the mouth you feel the voice start to tighten FAST.
