Also, notice how Matt referred to himself as a “Virginian born in a Tennessean’s body”? Matt wasn’t born Tennessean. Tennessee is (at least) his fourth state of residence. Hmmmmmmmmm… it’s almost like social identities are malleable and just because you were sorted into one category as an actual infant doesn’t mean that that will (or should) always define you………🤔🤔🤔
@mackthompson616

@@dlg78 um no my point is that no one is contesting Matt’s identity as a Tennessean because sure, cis-tennesseans and trans-tennesseans will have some different experiences and needs because of where they were born and how they grew up. But everyone knows that since Matt lives full-time in Tennessee under Tennessean jurisdiction and has embodied so much of the Tennessee experience, it’s be inaccurate to insist he is a Chicagoan Social categories are socially constructed. We made up state lines and recognize that where you live can be fluid and experiences vary within a state. So why, when we made up divides of gender identity and experiences, can we not recognize that trans people have substantial needs, experiences, and embodied experiences far beyond that of their assigned gender at birth?

Fun fact because I find this fascinating: there’s modern forensic science techniques specifically for identifying gnc and trans individuals from heavily decomposed or skeletonized remains, since not recognizing those factors makes identifying a victim extremely difficult. Though the most obvious signs are considered facial reconstruction surgery, if someone’s been taking hormones long enough their muscle structure changes, which shows up on their bones! And, speaking from an archeological perspective, though we can no longer ask them who they where or how they identified, remains have been found that did not present as their assigned gender. Furthermore, sex traits on skeletons, especially the skull, can sometimes get extremely fiddly! Even a cis skull, modern or ancient can be misidentified.

@voidify3

I think a more accurate explanation can be found by watching the “I hate mondays” video in the alt right playbook series. Basically right wingers are subsceptible to a form of magical thinking of “talking about a thing is what makes it happen, we agree in pure theory that people getting hurt is bad but there’s no way to fully eliminate it so talking about it beyond thoughts and prayers is sinister”. So a conservative getting mad about talking about consent doesn’t necessarily mean he’s an abuser (though he may well be), just that the logical fallacies ingrained in his brain lead him to advocate for just shutting up about abuse

@Dutch3DMaster
@Dutch3DMaster Жыл бұрын
@@calvinwhite8231 You know? If someone says "I have a hard time understanding that" on an explanation about gender dysphoria, that's OK. I get that, it's how most people have never had that second thought about how their body looks and why that doesn't looks what they feel inside that trans people usually will have had, sometimes from a very young age onwards. That's not transphobia, that's someone who tried their best to be genuinely curious and acknowledges that taking time to understand something might be needed, or that it might not ever land with someone, but who is a person with basic respect in trying to understand you. Matt Walsh however is someone who thinks it needs to be perfectly fine that, as an ADULT male, it needs to be normalized to hate a very particular group of children, and stoke his "fans" to bomb-threat a children's hospital for spreading the lie about what that hospital supposedly was doing to transchildren (surgeries performed on children below 16, which is not true), with his fans being just stupid and angry and especially fearful enough for not realizing that that hospital also has OTHER forms of medical care in wards all across the building. So when he viciously shouts we need to be "protecting children": maybe do that, maybe do that by NOT hating a particular group of children as an adult man, maybe not incite violence against a complete CHILDREN's hospital just because you ignore the fact that there are other wards than a gender clinic in there. Maybe not attack transchildren if you are so concerned with their wellbeing as an ADULT. THAT's when and why we call someone transphobic, not someone not being unable to understand a single thing, but when it's someone's mere goal to get legislation to pass based on lies, fear and a vicious hatred of transpeople and ALSO likes to monetize off of these viewpoints, and does it's ABSOLUTE best to visit meetings he should not be capable of speaking at (for not being a parent or citizen of a city or state of the school that the meeting is for). Next to this: he makes absolutely sure to call us groomers, rapists (and shooting himself in the foot with that one, according to him transwomen are all just men wanting to rape women, so that includes him ;) ), brings up the supposed brainwashing that we do ALL the time. That's when and why we call someone transphobic. The mere fact you fail to see this distinction ALONG with the fact that the trans community has been surprisingly resilient AND composed in responding to these deranged individuals who are spewing so much hate, is really worrying.

There is something I can’t stand about the whole “if they found your bones they would classify you as the sex you’re born with, so why should we respect your gender identity?” argument: For one, archaeological digs can also uncover items and clothing with the remains which might indicate more about who the person was and how they might have identified or been seen in their time. Even then, it will likely be very different to contemporary notions of gender identity or roles. Furthermore, and this is more personal, it doesn’t matter what people initially think of my bone structure or whatever if they found my body hundreds to thousands of years in the future! I will be too dead to care by then! It’s more important that people recognize and respect my identity and personhood HERE AND NOW while I’m alive, and whatever physical features I or anyone else might have is not going to stop that, because the internal sense of self is not bound by the constraints of the body. This is not to say that one shouldn’t make whatever actions for their body to fit their internal self, just that the physical body should not be the arbiter of whether the internal self is recognized. @@pilomalik9696 TLDR: Matt influences people to be openly transphobic, something that can literally be a death sentence to queer folks as people get killed and no one bats an eye, and both issues are equally as important since we need to solve BOTH of them if we want to live peacefully. Obviously war is a more urgent matter, but let's not pretend that queer people aren't affected by war and in different ways, as I am mentioning later on. We are murdered in the streets and no one bats an eye, in what is supposed to be a civilized society. Matt Walsh's rhetoric IS dangerous and deadly. The fact that other things can be dangerous and deadly doesn't negate this situation's danger and deadliness. The fact that you are so quick to dismiss people's suffering just shows how privileged you are. I mentioned it above, queer people are murdered in my country. As I mentioned above, a friend of mine got chased by dudes while being yelled transphobic slurs at. There's been attacks against trans people in my city and no one batted an eye. A young queer person was grabbed by the throat and punched for wearing eyeshadow. A trans woman went missing and after a few days they found her dead body in the street, she was the victim of a hit n run cause our lives mean so little to people. There was a young queer person, who was being chased, went into a jewelry store to hide. He was obviously not well, as he was stumbling around. The guy fell to the ground and the owner of the shop started kicking him in the head. When the police arrived on the scene they ALSO started kicking his head when he tried to get away from the shop owner. That guy was killed due to all the head trauma. That guy was a famous queer rights activist, and drag queen, Zackie. Existing as ourselves, outside of society's boxes of what gender and presentation are is literally extremely dangerous for us as we could get abused, chased, catcalled and then ridiculed, murdered and left for dead. We have to keep our heads low if we want to keep them. I'm not negating the importance of war as it is a horrible thing that thousands of people die from, but this isn't the video for that. Which is why it wasn't mentioned. EVEN IF war is ALSO fkn shit for queer people, obviously. Like those trans women in Ukraine right now who cannot exit their country because Ukraine is so transphobic it's almost impossible to change the identification on your certificates. So those trans women have to stay in a fkn warzone cause they don't have the correct documentation, because the the government is transphobic, and therefore either have to stay there and die, or go stealth mode, which isn't easy when you've lived a lot of your life being yourself and you have to revert back to that. Aside from the debilitating dysphoria one might experience. In addition to that, these trans women have the chance to be brutally abused and murdered if they do chose to go to the borders and people realize they're trans. As for trans men, not only does their identification not match, which brings up all of the previous points I made, they are also expected to go to war and if they don't they're not "men enough". That logic is extremely flawed and I hope I don't have to explain why. Again, ofc people who experience war go through shit, I'm not saying they don't. All I'm saying is that trans people also go through hell and we shouldn't invalidate that. Cause honestly, are you REALLY using the argument "other people have it worse :(" like yeah, no shit. Everyone has different experiences, some people are luckier than others. But I bet that everyone has at least ONE thing that could get them to be a sobbing mess on the floor. Are you gonna tell someone who lost a family member or smth that they're not going through enough to express that grief? Are we not allowed to mourn the people who have gone through hell and back anymore? If your suffering is greater than mine, does that mean I just get to be happy? Or do we both need fkn therapy, and a support system, and everything a person who's going through the worst experience ever needs? At the end of the day it's not about who's got it worse, it's about helping EVERYONE as much as possible. If you've read all of this, thank you 💜/gen

Completely beside the point but I'm a librarian and here's how the Dewey Decimal System works! It's actually pretty easy: In a library, fiction is organized by author's names (and sometimes subdivided by genre, mystery often gets its own section, for example). But if we did that in nonfiction, then stuff about the same subject wouldn't be together. Which is annoying, especially since that's not how people think approach reading nonfiction books for the most part. When people read or look for nonfiction, it's less likely because you're interested in the author (with a few notable exceptions for someone who's really well-known, like Mary Roach or Malcolm Gladwell or something), and more because they're interested in the subject. The Dewey Decimal System exists because we needed a way to sort books by subject, and so a guy named John Dewey basically made a list of every subject and assigned it arbitrary numbers, with similar subjects being numerically close to each other. The number for WWI histories is followed by the number for histories of the Great Depression is followed by histories of WWII. Like all classifications it's not perfect (poetry and plays are in this under "nonfiction" even though they're technically fiction, biographies have their own section sorted by last name of subject and are in a completely different section of the library usually, there's some baked-in problematic attitudes/racism because this was thought up in the 1800's so of course there is) but it works well enough. You don't need to have any idea what number correlates with what - most librarians only know a few big sections, like cookbooks (641!), by heart. If you need a nonfiction book at a library and don't want to ask a librarian to help you (though we're happy to help! It's our job!) you can go to a computer with the catalog on it. Type in the specific title/author you want or a general subject keyword and you will be given a number. All nonfiction books are going to have two things on them, an at least three digit number and under that three letters that are the first three letters of the author's last name. Nonfiction is sorted in numerical order FIRST, so the order on a shelf would look something like: 123, 123.001, 123.082, 123.107. The three letters only become important if you're in a section where there are a lot of books under that number. 811, for example, is North American poetry, which is usually a pretty big section! That's sorted alphabetically within the call number, so Maya Angelou (811 ANG) would be followed by Margaret Atwood (811 ATW), who would be followed by Elizabeth Bishop (811 BIS). Hope this helps, and happy reading!

I've said this before on Jessie's videos, but I'm a cis woman who is prescribed a drug that, in trans kids, can also be used as a puberty blocker. For me it's medically induced menopause, and quite frankly? It has more risks in my adult body than it does in a child's, and has more benefits to trans children than it does to me - and I'm taking it as a life preserving measure. It's very safe, easily reversible (I know, turns out my body wants the 3 month implant every 2 months and I fell out of induced menopause so fast), and overall just not a big deal. Some of the fearmongering over puberty blockers so clearly comes from transphobes not understanding how these medications work, what other applications they have, and just how common they are in applications other than as a puberty blocker. Adult cis men and women use these drugs ALL THE TIME for hormone dependent cancers and illnesses, with few side effects. Trans kids have even less side effects.

Every teacher tried to conform him, and being left handed was seen as shameful, defiant, twisted and wrong ..and it's true, we used to see it that way. Now, 200 years later, being left handed isn't a "thing" anymore..we instinctively adapt when needed, they adapt when needed, and the few studies made about them are truly intresting, but not judgemental.. I hope one day, being gay and or trans will be seen as being left handed today is. But i hope it will not take us 200 years to get there....

He can't even remember thinking of himself as a girl, only a boy that people keep calling a girl for some reason. But he wanted to be a good kid and was led to believe that meant being a good girl. So he played the role of a girl and suffered disphoria for almost 20 years, before he came out last year. When he was aroud 5 he told us he was going to be a daddy when he grew up. We told him "No, you can't ever be a daddy, you're a little girl. You will become a big girl, then a woman and if you want a mommy." I regret this so much. In this occurence and many other, we made him feel like he had to keep pretending he was a girl. He never felt like he could be himself in his own home, with his own family. I took awhile to think about whether not I wanted to make this comment but for the sake of solidarity, I want to. I'm a cis woman. I grew up with stories from my mother and great grandmother, recounted the historical horrors that make me glad I'm alive to day, and gives me hope for the future, that things will continue to get better. But I want to say to any trans woman who end up being harassed by other women, congratulations, you are a woman. Progress is not gendered, and I was surprised to hear from my great grandmother and my mother that basic womans rights, such as voting, having an opinion other then your husbands, being allowed to not have a husband, faced critique from women and men alike. And while arguments could be made for why that is, it was more startling to hear women shouldnt vote or have a life outside their family basically, then from a man. People like TERFs have always existed, but now that it's generally accepted for women to be... individuals, ya know, only certain women of course according to them, this kind of thing has unfortunately always existed whenever rights for anyone comes up. Theres always gonna be people that you would think would understand the struggle, but don't want the change. Hell for a Cis vs Cis example, look at Girl Defined. As far as they're concerned the world would be better off without someone like me.... without someone like you I'm sure as well. And that's what gets me. I'm cis. I'm relatively lucky. When someone talks down to me or is straight up sexist I can know it's either coming from a place of polite ignorance that I can maybe address on the spot, or if not, I'll at least be backed by general opinion. Trans women in the USA are experiencing the same brutish outdated behavior that for me, in most circles, wouldnt be accepted. Outdated already in feeling and all too familiar. I often find people using language similar to what it was just a few generations ago for cis woman, unapologetically sexist and insulting.... and in some cases, dangerous. Threats, violence, the same ones women have faced for generations continues. It saddens me. It disgusts me. History indeed repeats itself but that comes with a glimmer of hope. It took a long time for woman to get where we are today. But it happened. Few still disagree though it feels like many, but time marches on. I just hope some day when I'm old and boring a bunch of 4th graders that I can tell them the horrors and shocking stories that *USED* to afflict people that seem unbelievable and gross to them, that maybe they will appreciate their time as much as I do mine, though it's hard to think things will get better, so much is wrong these days... but still I hope to witness progress celebrating quietly as people who harass, threaten, and dismiss those who are different due to circumstances beyond their control, slowly fade from echos. And that hope extends not only to trans women, but trans men, gays, lesbians, every member of the LGBTQ+ that some day, people will be shocked and appalled by your stories as well, and what you had to endure to get where you are like so many already have.

I don't think you're the "angry trans woman" steryotype but like even if you were, you shouldn't have to apologize for ir. Fitting a steryotype isn't a crime.But anyways let's get to the meat of the video. The Troll: the thing about making the other side look bad is interesting because that seems to be the argument that an abusive parent would do, like you tell them "You need to treat me with respect" and they answer "Oh so you want me to kiss the floor you walk on, it that what you're saying?" idk if that makes much sense but it's just the energry I get. Like I don't think I'm crazy for pointing out that the Venn Diagram of Conservative Rethoric and Abusive Parent tatcis is a circle. The Viral: I don't have a lot to say about this point except that the media is very choosy about who the choose to platform. Like recently I wrote an article about Damian Wayne's (The fifth of Batman's Robins) etnincity and how a lot of the hate directed towrds him might be raced-based and on the same day, Medium (the platform where I posted it) recommended me an article from a transphobic guy who was imposing their harfuls views on their audience. This also ties into the book segment. The book: Yikes! Holy shit. I'm having South Park flashbacks dolphin surgery. I wouldn't be surprised if he got it from there. Anyways but the point that you bring from the book not being from children but being from the parents it's interesting too because I think that fearmongering it's quite literally the point of transphobia. Like not to be literal with the word "phobia" but I think that fear it's the point of everything, they feel fear so we should also be afraid. The grift: I don't have thoughts on this, but I genuinely can't wait for your video on Cancel Culture (I have my whole opinion on the whole thing but that's neither here nor there) Thanks for making thie video Jessie, you always get me thinking about stuff. @ OllamhDrab Tell me about it. My city was trying to pass an ordinance that would ban conversion therapy on minors, particularly from unlicensed counselors. One of the wealthier local churches here made a whole movement out of it, saying this was about religious oppression… because apparently it is oppressive for them to not be able to tell people (and young folks) how to live their lives and who they can love and/or have sex with. The language in the ordinance did not condemn discussions about homosexuality and what the Bible has to say about it, but the church pastor claimed it was an attack on “free speech”. I wrote several letters to my the city council about my support for the ordinance to protect minors from this kind of religious counseling (which I also was subjected to as a minor), and they received a lot of letters from others expressing their support, including some people who have suffered under this church’s “counseling” program involuntarily. But unfortunately, this church pulled out a fucking lawsuit on the city, and then they backed down. Classic case of “Christian persecution” complex, except oh wait, yeah, they were able to throw their weight around until they got their way. So persecuted!

Matt Walsh is one of those conservative clowns that make my blood boil. I know that's what he wants, I know I shouldn't let him get to me that much, but I can't help it. He's just such a hateful ghoul who riles up his transphobic audience for a quick buck, not caring about anyone he hurts along the way. It's hard to to filter out the Kill Bill sirens that start blaring in my head whenever he starts talking, I don't know how you do it honestly. We stan a good faith librarian/professor

Honestly this situation made me think about the time when I finally realized how horrible transphobia is. In early 2014, I had broken my left hip and when I went to the hospital, I conversed with one of the nurses that helped me. She talked to me about her trans daughter and showed me a picture of her. Sweetest little thing. But then told me that she was getting bullied in school. When talking about this, I could see she was almost about to cry but composed herself because she knew she had to help me out. From this point forward, it occurred to me that trans people are human beings and deserve to be treated as such and not othered. I mean if I did or said something that would contribute to the bullying of that nurse's trans daughter I couldn't live with myself.

I saw him on Samantha's video earlier and it fked me for that day and upcoming days , i was so frustrated and my anxiety was very severe. Samantha made such strong arguments against him , but the bs he spouted was highlighted in my brain and it was all i could focus on at that time. It took some days to settle in and i kept making counter arguments trying to defend my identity and it exhausted me a lot. but as time went by i kinda forgot about it and counter arguments started to make more sense and i could see clearly that he was spouting bs , even though i knew it all along. ( Earlier in my life , i used to think that stuff like this would make me crumble and quit but when it actually happened , i didnt think about stopping to live my life as i am , i was able to sustain my sense of self. ) This confidence is there in me because of Samantha , you and other awesome trans creators in the community. I feel so lucky to have all these people. I understand how exhausting it is to address a-holes like him , and also to come in good faith. I really appreciate you.

A point on the "trans is a mental illness" thing. I find that super dumb that some transphobic people think that's the "win argument" button. Like, let's pretend this argument is right. So what? If that was the case, then it would still be better to refer to trans people by their preferred pronouns and names because not doing so worsens trans people's mental health, and deliberately doing something you know will make someone's mental condition worse is widely considered a horrible thing to do. Also by this logic, trans people who want hrt and parents who allow their trans kids to take puberty blockers should be able to do so; after all, people with mental conditions still get to choose the treatments options that are right for them. No one is going to tell someone with depression "hey you can't take Prozac!" or "you have to do CBT because I think you should." I feel like the "trans people are mentally ill, and therefore I don't need to respect their needs" argument is the most "tell me you are ableist without telling me you are ableist" thing out there. It only makes sense if one implies someone being mentally ill inherently makes them so delusional that they can't understand their condition or their needs, and it is the place of "normal people" to decide that for them.

Why are these conservatives who are supposedly into capitalism not openly supporting the trans community for their own gain? When someone transitions it potentially opens a new level of consumerism: a whole new wardrobe, makeup, different grooming products, prosthetics, more regular trips to the hair dressers, hair removal, protein shakes, gym membership, gym equipment, therapy, speech therapy, hrt, surgeries, admin fees to change documentation, public transport or car maintenence costs associated with travelling to numerous appointments, support groups and social events, and even being queerbaited into consuming media and products aimed at trans people.

Commented this on Samantha’s and Sam Collin’s video but I figured that it belongs here too so I’m copy and pasting it: As a young trans person I can’t stand people like Matt. They’re only making it worse for us. Not better. I understand being a little weary of someone under 18 transitioning at first. But if that’s the case you should at least try to educate yourself on the difference between medical and social transition, transgender puberty and such. I came out as trans when I was 10 years old. The sheer idea of growing up, developing breasts, getting a period, etc made me lose it. I remember my mother sitting me down and having a conversation with me that I was gonna most likely start puberty soon. I kept a neutral face around her but after the talk was done I ran into the bathroom and had a mental breakdown. I couldn’t stop crying and I impulsively cut my hair off. My parents heard me screaming and ran in to see what was wrong and I just collapsed in their arms. The conversation was hard and I could barely manage to express how I was feeling but eventually I told them. It took me a year and a half in total to get a diagnosis of GD and hormone blockers(keep in mind I’m in the UK so I’m honestly lucky it only took that long). I’ve been told that I’m just a confused girl, my parents have been told that they’re abusing me by colleagues and relatives. But I’m honestly glad that they took me seriously and didn’t just brush it off as a phase. Five years since that day and I’m now a proud and happy non-binary trans boy. Yeah, sometimes I still have hard times but if my parents hadn’t taken my pain seriously I might not be here today so I’m forever grateful.

The dialogue around trans people is awful these days...made worse by the fact that people talk _about_ us, but never _to_ us. Like we're not qualified to weigh in on a conversation that is entirely _about_ us. It's infantilizing, it's patronizing and it's wrong. But you are valid and I'm glad you got the health care you needed, even if delayed. I can only hope we hold the line against TERF rhetoric and can continue to provide such affirmative care to everyone who needs it. Much love and support from Canada.

I never had a childhood narrative myself, and I constantly think about that whenever I hear other trans people figuring things out at a young age. At the time I was growing up, the information and language wasn't readily available, and schools certainly weren't going to teach it. I was diagnosed with depression early on, and was conditioned to only see myself through the lens of depression, and nothing more. So I wish there had been more visibility, representation, conversation, and above all education on LGBTQ issues when I was in middle and high school. Maybe then I wouldn't have gone through decades of my life with crippling depression defining me.
