Hi Matt, I could be wrong but I believe it depends on the individual church, priest or church leader. Whilst tragically, the majority take the safe, pacifist path, there are still some courageous heroes out there who will speak out despite the abuse, ridicule and even personal physical attack. Please God, these heroes grow in number, gaining strength from the current brave few. The best we can do of course is pray but also support and encourage the faithful minority in any way we can. God bless you and all your loved ones and may you all stay safe, well and spiritually strong in these challenging times. Mandy V (Western Australia)🙏🏼🕊

I think that Christians in the west are not cowards because now we face persecution from our peers, those who we may respect and find intelligent. This is much harder to defend against than an enemy people and this also may bring us to more theological and philosophical insights on the future. (Yeah id like a book)

Also I need some more explanation for the need for homeschooling because in my experience the only way to be an interesting person as you guys were saying is if you’ve had to socialize in some way. In homeschooling you can’t always get that and that could be detrimental to the social development of a person. Like i don’t think I’d be a very interesting person at all if I was homeschooled and I don’t see a lot of homeschooled people on the catholic media scene or in my local catholic community.

It's been great to watch Walsh's development and evolution over time. He really has established himself as one of the most effective influencers in this genre in the 18 months since this was released. Now we are required to call the most egregious predators "minor attracted persons". 20+ years ago I was watching Friends (the show) normalize rampant fornication and said the next push in media would be glorifying homosexuality and adultery as good and necessary and even virtuous. At that point I was already seeing it when I lived in Europe, but this country is quite thoroughly infected now. The Daily Wire is an oasis in a cesspool. Deo Gratias for men like Matt and Michael who keep repeating, with humor, the Truth, against the howling of the liberal media monster. May they receive many graces for fighting this battle,, and may their understanding of what is good and Catholic continue to help guide us all in a time when even the barque of Peter seems to be steering onto the rocks of perdition.

I go to confession after much reflection and prayer, I arrive only to hear the priest say you didn’t commit a sin. I couldn't agree more! This is just a gist but yesterday at Divine Mercy Sunday Holy Mass. Our Parish Priest told the congregation and visitors since it was also 1st Communion of about 25 kids.. that if you are NOT faithful, practicing Catholics, the Lord is patiently waiting for you to come home. Go to confession and become in full communion with your beautiful Catholic Faith. And remember! if you haven't been to confession at least a year, that is a MORTAL SIN! Morto means dead. You therefore: are Spiritually DEAD. 70 people walked out before communion. Oh BTW: I got off my Thu night duty at 8AM Sat and drove to the nearest Catholic Church. Approached the Priest in the Sacristy and asked if he can hear my confession (in anticipation of Divine Mercy Sunday). He refused. siting an appt right after mass. No offer of any other schedule for me to confess. There you go!

Some Christians *are* cowards. Many won't keep their faith in there daily lives and go along with the secular culture. I've been guilty of this in my youth, not speaking up for the faith and Jesus. Matt Walsh, at the end, when giving his “advice” spoke on looking inward to your faith & truly being honest with your belief was an incredible statement that I lived through but never really heard in words. That life is empty. When I was about 17 or 18, I came to the conclusion that I was no longer a Christian. I became the insufferable atheist, that no one really wanted to be around. About 3-4 years ago, I realized the lack of virtue and purpose that life leads. Even then, I did not really buy the religious piece but did realize that leftism was a cult that needed to be address, and started to embraced some conservative values such as hyper-personal accountability. I now, as an almost 30 year old man with a wife and son, realize that in my faith journey, I went the wrong way. I took a surface level claim, and it sounded too miraculous to believe and discredited it, where I should have dove in and done more research to strengthen my faith. Finding my masculinity and embracing it alongside the value system I hold has made my life much more virtuous.

I started following Walsh after listening to Shapiro, seeing him on Tucker Carlson got me becoming a regular listener to his show. I love his book “church of cowards “ , which I read in about 5 days ! I, too, am deeply religious and wear my faith my faith on my sleeve ! As a Catholic when he says he’s discovered truth, I , too, have discovered TRUTH! He’s very well knowledges on scripture but I urge him to ask and research, …where did the trinity come from, is it scriptural ! How did bunny and eggs get merged into the resurrection of Jesus ! How did decorated trees and the 25th become the celebration of Jesus birth , when it says shepherds were sleeping outside on a day very cold in Israel ? Did Jesus tell us to celebrate his birth ! Don’t the earliest writings in ancient language have a different spelling as to the word was with God and the word was god, indicating by spelling a godlike creature ! Where the Catholic Church claims Peter was first pope , why did Jesus say referring to the rock cite Isaiah’s prophecy saying that Jesus is that rock ? As one who researches scriptural history, there is much corruption in the church causing Luther to protest ! I’m very Christian so don’t get me wrong but Jesus said his followers would worship in spirit and truth. So scriptural TRUTH is very important ! In every action of life we should all ask , what would Jesus do ?

The church isn’t cowardly because sermons I hear frequently call for the end of practices like abortion and homosexuality. However, there needs to be more stringent action like excommunicating that one priest on Twitter that’s not following the teachings of the Church and reminding people to kneel before going to receive the Eucharist.

I attended a small, rural, public school (less than 120 students in the high school. I had very good teachers and nearly all of them were religious. I did have two that were atheist, but they did not wear it on their sleeves. I disagree that students leave their faith due to interactions in high school. I did not leave the faith until I was in college after marrying my formerly Protestant wife. I am also a high school teacher. Most students enjoy discussing moral issues and I consider it a blessing for me to work with youth who are open to having these discussions and are not too combative. I always allow a student to bring it a topic, if they choose, and then tell them that the conversation may turn uncomfortable if the they are not mentally mature enough to have a conversation. I always start from a premise and do not bring my catholic stance until someone ask.

One reason we aren't cowards in the church today, is those I've seen stand against abortion in my country. In Ireland, we lost the referendum on abortion, but at the time, I was surrounded by so many faithful Catholics who canvassed and spoke out against overwhelming opposition (and who continue to push back at every opportunity). I still think there were many, particularly higher up in the church who didn't speak, and who were cowardly, but I can't fault those I saw act with courage

This sifting process began even in the schools and it is worth noting that the struggle for the language was waged perhaps in its bitterest form around the school, because this was the nursery where the seeds had to be tended which were to spring up and form the future generation The tactical objective of the fight was the winning over of the child, and it was to the child that the first rallying cry was addressed, “German boy, do not forget that you are a German,” and “Remember, little girl, that one day you must be a German mother.” Those who know something of the juvenile spirit can understand how youth will always lend a ready ear to such a rallying cry. In many ways the young people led the struggle, fighting in their own manner and with their own weapons. They refused to sing non-German songs The greater the efforts made to win them away from their German allegiance, the more they exalted the glory of their German heroes. They stinted themselves in buying sweetmeats, so that they might spare their pennies to help the war fund of their elders. They were incredibly alert to the significance of what the non-German teachers said and they contradicted in unison. They wore the forbidden emblems of their own nation and were happy when penalized, or even physically punished. In their own way, they faithfully mirrored their elders, and often their attitude was finer and more sincere. Thus it was that at a comparatively early age I took part in the struggle which the nationalities were waging against one another in the old Austria.

This was delightful. I love that you two spoke about atheists as they are. I’m an atheist and I BIG fan of Matt Walsh. No, we’re not all psychopaths and yes indeed. If you bring the arguments *for* creation from that movie or book, you’ll be slaughtered. In fact I haven’t really engaged with a Christian in real life that was actually equipped to debate me. I’m not a smug atheist anymore and I don’t care to debate anyone. In fact- I’m considering going back to church and re-exporting the faith I left. I just can’t get down on sloppy Christian arguments for the existence of God. It’s hard. But yeah. It’s interesting to say the least. Matt is an amazing man and I love the work he’s doing. I appreciate his insight on so many topics and I just got a real kick out of what these two had to say about Christianity as a brand, Christian movies, and atheists. Thanks dudes.

What made you leave the faith?

Greetings Samantha. Thank you for your thoughtful message. If you are interested in arguments for the existence of God and the way Christian doctrine is constructed from first principles, I recommend Summa Theologica by St. Thomas Aquinas. The Summa Theologica is available online in English for free. I would particularly refer you to his five proofs for the existence of God (Quinque Viae). You will also find a pedagogical exposition of Christian faith in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. You may find this book useful too. Finally KZbin channels like the ones by Bishop Barron and Catholic Answers are likely to be helpful to an enquiring person such as you. Let me wish you the best, Samantha.

Many Christians would claim the same thing as you- that we can't find atheists who can properly debate us because their answers are sloppy. It's probably human nature that we seek out those who are not strong in their convictions because they are easy prey. We all think our own answers are perfect. Truth be told, generally speaking, very few Christians really do any kind of research on their own beliefs, but neither does anyone else, including atheists. The vast majority of people are too busy making money and keeping busy to think through epistemology, theology, ontology, etc.

I think the church is cowardly today because the only kind of discipleship that teenagers like I are receiving is pizza, games, and a sermon that tells us Jesus loves us as we are and doesn't call us to ACTION in our culture. I go to a Christian school, and even some of my friends get fed up with me wanting to discuss theology with them. I asked a friend who just came from a public school if he ever shared the Gospel with people or if he ever heard another at least talk about their faith in a meaningful way, and he was really confused why anybody would even bring up Jesus in any conversation, especially at a public school. I was on a cross country ski team with people from that public school, so I got the opportunity to share the Gospel and talk about faith. One of my friends on the team is actually a committed Catholic, and I got a lot out of talking with him (especially since I myself am Protestant), but most of them just saw their faith as "another part of themselves." Even when I talked about my faith in a meaningful way to some of them, they would just turn it into a joke after that. It just seems that people in our culture cannot handle serious stuff, and when it comes to faith, that is a real shame.

Compared with other countries, I still envy America who are filled with courageous people inside and outside the church who are speaking publicly on a variety of controversial issues.

I'm a great believer in dressing up for Mass. We dress up for a wedding, we will wear jeans or shorts to an interview or a funeral. There's a time and place for everything, so why just throw on anything for Mass.?. Is that not an extra special occasion....

I think the Church is Cowardly when priests and bishops are afraid of preaching specific messages as they do not want to lose federal and government funding.

I think the Church has become cowardly mainly due to the fear of rejection of Christian ideals when spoken. (Love the Daily Wire btw!)

Matt (Fradd), your question to Walsh about the Cross draped by the flag was interesting. It took a few minutes to imagine the visual. The visual seems like an attempt to wash the cross with patriotic fervor, instead of the cross being the symbol that sanctifies patriotism. I’m reminded of a quote by attributed to Cardinal Sarah regarding the liturgy as being that thing that sanctifies his culture, as opposed to being the thing where his culture is put on display.

I think there are a lot of people who aren’t brave enough to clearly state what they believe. Too often we don’t want to upset people and say things like, whatever works for you. We don’t need to be arguing all the time, but I think I could stand up for what I believe better.

We have become cowardly because most of us do not share the gospel because we are scared of what others might think of us. As Fr Larry Richards would say, we have brought many others to devil when we sin with others. But yet we do not even think about bringing others to Jesus.

When Walsh talks about how he thinks about not saying stuff because it might offend or cause problems then the other side of him says we’ll just because of that I have to say it….I feel that in my soul! 😅 I do the same thing lol.
