Man, I'm currently in the midst of post-production editing a feature documentary and this channel has been an inspirational godsend. I was so pumped to see Max's name show up in my feed today-I wouldn't have minded the hour long version of this! Also, Max if you're reading this: I saw 15 Minutes of Shame and loved it. I'm glad to know you've realized your audience is more palpable on KZbin. Wish more people had gotten to see it!

A radio edit is such a profoundly different approach to construction of a timeline. Especially if you are cobbling your idea out of the footage instead of rigorously planning each shot. Let the story carry you then find the visuals, so damn good. Always gold on this channel

KZbin recommended your video to me recently where you interviewed life of Riza. Since then Ive been bingeing your content. I’ve never seen anyone as good of as interviewer as you are. The way you communicate and ask questions just makes other people come to life. It’s really cool to see and I just wanted to leave a comment and say it’s a real gifting that you have!!

Max is one of the most influential and important filmmakers of our generation. His style and unique voice is incredibly refreshing. Anytime I edit a video and I get stuck, I swatch Follow the Frog and the rythym and editing sparks my creativity again.

This is how I used to structure my sets when I was a House Dj back in the early 2000's. I would listen to tracks over and over then build a short movie in my mind based on the music. As the movie progressed the music would take the listener on the journey, even though they never knew what I was thinking people always used to say I had a great talent for leading the crowd.

I like that this feels like two sports casters in the booth analyzing the play by play of the game. It’s all in the headphones choice, camera angles, and cuts to “the game.”

I'm not formally educated in film making, and these videos help so much as an amateur in this medium. I always think audio first, and to hear this is a process you can successfully lean into is refreshing. I have been fighting that urge and forcing other processes which amounts to a lot of added friction for me at least. 🙌 thank you!

My favorite thing in the comment sections of incredible interviews like this is finding other channels who are making such quality. I just watched the first 30 seconds of your Van Gogh video and it already looks like something special. Gonna subscribe, catch up to your videos, and hope you can upload more than one video per year (ironic coming from me but well). Hope you the best with your channel man.

hearing someone else describe your exact process of using scratch audio from your voice notes so you can lay out the audio first before the visuals is a really weird experience (i started doing it because i share an office with my bf and I can't always do the vo when i want to, plus writing & editing is my fave part the visuals are always the cherry on top), but also Max is one of my favourites and to know i share his process accidentally is so comforting and validating lol

Amazing to get this behind the scenes look of Max Joseph's work. I see a lot of similarities to my own approach - especially having the images in mind first and then trying to find a way to make it happen on camera. I do this with music a lot, that I start my videos with only the track in mind and then I will match the visuals to that. Thank you for this great conversation.

Ah, sound first. That could work for me as well, as my time is so limited for filming. I could figure out an apt story for a couple of scenes first, then go shoot a film that would help the story along in the edit. Thanks for putting this interview out here, Max and Jack 🤸‍♂️🙏🏻🎖

Every film I've ever made on KZbin the sound, especially music choice, comes first in the timeline, I try to find the emotion I want to evoke through the music. Its become the number one thing our subscribers comment on and enjoy. I probably spend just as much time searching for music as I do edit. It's that important. The right choice almost makes it not noticeable, and it moves the film along subconsciously. It's not making a film, its making a Feeling. Man, I love Digital Spaghetti! What a service to creators. Much Love to you all.

Bunch of folks called out Jack for not giving Max credit for the Make It Count video, so what does Jack do? He doesn’t just pin a comment or Tweet about it - he gives Max an entire video, and the first thing he does is correct his wrong. That, my friends, is how it should be done.
