17 fastest laps. From P17 to P1. With no DRS to overtake. In horrible conditions, where we saw Lando, Lewis and Fernando all make little mistakes. Max was flawless. I just don’t get why these presenters and big channels aren’t focusing on te driving lines of max on his fast laps vs the others. You can get such a better understanding where he gets the speed rather than these throttle lines. On the last turn he was getting so much more on the curb than the others. he could get a nice exit and its also better for the tires because he puts less weight on them
@ThaDutchDK19893 сағат бұрын
Less weight on them ? If he puts the left wheels on the curb they compress ( stress) the right side gets more squished into the tarmac = more grip . His steering angle is sooner straight hence why he could accelerate earlier = less weight = better for the tyres . I think the curb puts more stress on them

I wish a pro like Palmer would go into details as to why Max can pull those moves off but nobody else seems to. Because the fine control of the brakes, the feel for his car, and just that innate instinct and generational talent to control the whole thing is mind blowing. Added by a combination of steering inputs that are sometimes later, faster, and sometimes much smoother. It's not "one thing" that he does better, it's all over the metrics. Max is nailing every metric just a fraction better than anybody else, and it adds up to a 20s lead in the wet. We're not just seeing the best driver of this generation here, it's the best driver the sport has ever seen. And when he goes over the line like in Vegas, that's his choice. There's no doubt in my mind about that, and the penalties were correct.

I was amazed by the kerb thing. It's what Peter Windsor has been saying about Max' corner for years. He shortens the corner, by cutting in two parts. In the rain this becomes extreme. My first thought when I saw that Norris went on Inters again was "uff. That was a mistake ...". I don't understand why they went on Inters and not on Wets. It was obvious that the rain got much worse and the chance of getting a big benefit from the stop was small. The chance of throwing away track position was high. If you stop under those conditions then only because the new set is much better than the old one. Otherwise the chance of throwing away track position will be too high. If the rain kept the same I'd understand but it obviously got worse. There were three possible cases: 1st - you stop for Wets as the rain gets worse. Under those conditions it could be much faster so you'd have had a benefit if the race is not red flagged. 2nd - you stop for Inters in the hope that the rain will not get too bad and you don't need to change them twice. You also get a little benefit from the fresher set compared to those on the used ones. 3rd - you stay out expecting a red flag. Case 2 does rarely make any sense because the wrong tires in Wet conditions can easily make you lose several seconds per lap. After just a few laps you could already have lost the "benefit" of having one stop less to do. The pace advantage compared to the used Inters is possibly easily outscored by the pace difference you could get with a set of Wets. Case 1 seems like the much better option and case 3 was the best in the end. Why would you stop for Inters when the conditions are getting worse? It just doesn't make any sense. Stopping for Inters is only a viable option if the conditions are expected to stay the same for a long time if not until the end of the race and that was clearly not the case.
@FrancisFjordCupola3 сағат бұрын

Norris’ post-season should be him practicing starts ad nauseam. Weaknesses are present in every driver, but Norris has an actual fault- it’s remarkable how often he loses P1 in the first turn or first lap. This one seemed most bizarre. Russell dunked him on the ‘drive straight forward’ section of the start. Practice!

It feels like Max run smoothly even tho he keep battling the whole time for the grip, awesome

I really wish analysts would not disrespect fans and viewers by saying things like "this is so difficult for anyone at home to comprehend". Many F1 fans are racing fans in general. Many racing fans are engineers, competitors, racers (whether serious or for hobby or for fun), or simply enjoy driving - that are very familiar with nuances and analytics of driving in fair and foul weather. That said, are the drivers/teams able to tune, onboard, the braking and throttle responses (such as rates or gain of input)?

max is king in the rain because he's always testing the grip and he's just able to instinctively determine how the car will behave in every stage of the wet track, if it's flodded or just slippery, he's just unbeatable in the rain

what now? Aint SIR HAM the best driver in the universe? master of the masters? i guess it changes depending on the nationality of the team and the driver itself 🤷♂😂

Max just makes overtakes look easier than they really are 🌧️🌧️🌧️🏎️🏎️
@DecibelDrСағат бұрын
This analysis misses completely where Max found the grip, which is off the racing line, off the rubber. That's why his overtakes on the inside of turn 1 worked so well, and his overtakes on the outside of turn 3.

9:20 - You can say Norris was quicker at some point... but earlier in the lap there is a huge speed difference. Much bigger than at the end. And in favor of Max with his "worn" tires. British passport, british goggles. And if anyone wanted a dry race, they should have told George not to sweat it.

What was final finishing order with all the penilities handed out.
@freddiefreihofer77163 сағат бұрын
The same, I believe. The penalties were financial and points against one's license.
@FrancisFjordCupola3 сағат бұрын
They did not hand out all the penalties. Some drivers had extenuated circumstances such as having a British passport.

I find it amazing that only Max realises the grip is off the racing line….. The racing line gets “rubbered in” and when wet that means is slippery. The track off the racing line has more grip. Or you could just watch Senna at Donnington and work it out for yourselves!
@ab8jeh2 сағат бұрын
Most racing drivers know this, but going off line on the _inside_ is slightly odd and how Max was unique this race. Great driving.

Wait, I thought Max only won because he had an Adrian Newey rocketship. I heard Charles Leclerc is fastest over one lap? Max did 17 fastest laps and won from 17th with a 19 second lead and no DRS on a wet track... That's weird. Did someone lie to me..?
