I also do sim racing. I drove a GT car in iRacing with the setup how Max likes it. I spun 4 times in the first lap, the rear just wants to go around as soon as you blow at the throttle pedal while not having the fronts straight. Alex explained this perfectly with his mouse sensitivity example. He's driving with his fingertips and has mastered this perfectly.

The fact that you as a reporter genuinely have this perception and almost everyone else in the world, other than Lewis Hamilton fans, have te complete opposite perception, says everything about the British media propaganda really. Hamilton was so very lucky that season on many occasions: the red flag in Emilia Romagna that saved his race, the red flag in Silverstone that saved that one, Max having a puncture in Baku, Max getting knocked out by Bottas in Hungary. Max winning 2021 does not come down to that one moment in Abu Dhabi, it comes down to him scoring 95% of the available points, whereas Hamilton only got to about 84%, because he had quite some mistakes/bad performances that year, especially in the first half of the season. Off course missing turn 1 in Baku was his biggest mistake, but also he lost his car in Emilia Romagna in the rain, had a bad Monaco weekend, collided with Max at Silverstone, had a very bad sprint start in Monza destroying easy P1 in sprint and main race and a bad start and qualification in Russia. Hamilton was only faultless the last 7 races when he had a big engine/speed advantage over Max. Max was pretty much faultless the entire year, with the exception of overtaking Hamilton outside the track in Bahrein, colliding with Hamilton in Monza and defending too aggressively in Brazil.

This is why I want Max to win. And win way more championships in the future because he is truly one of a kind and deserves the accolades to support it. Not that he needs it, he just deserves a lot more. On his 200th race, Max said to the media when asked about it, he said "I won't race another 200" and said it with so much conviction. Tying back to what Newey said about him being a deep thinker, philosophical and self-assured, I think he really does mean it.

Apparently, Max said that he doesn't quite feel a desire to beat the shared Schumacher/Hamilton record of 7 WDCs. That seems to align with a disinterest for race stats. Given that the string of Schumacher wins made me loose interest in F1, and the Hamilton string kept me away (in the intervening years I still had very little interest) it might be a good thing to have a driver at the very top of the proverbial food chain that does *NOT* want to achieve a total of 5 more.

I've seen this side several times but don't you think it's kinda logical that hostile media that dislikes Max is not interested in showing that side of Max? Been following and watching F1 since the late 70s when Mario Andretti won the WDC. I stopped watching after Senna got killed. What brought me back to F1 was Max. My friends were telling me about this new sensational driver. Since I first saw Max I knew he was something special. I've been watching him since. I do believe Max is a once in a lifetime driver. I compare his ability and aggressiveness with the great Senna. I would of loved to see Max race with the greats from the "Turbo Era". Of the modern day drivers I believe Max is the only driver that could of competed with them. His drive in Brazil is one of the greatest I have ever seen. Go Max, #4 🏆 incoming.

It's a shame you stopped right after Senna died, otherwise you would know that Michael was just as much of a titan if not more. I think you missed out on some legendary seasons. Everyone who watched Michael race, sees parallels between him and Max. Their driving style is also similar. Max drives like a Michael who tailored his driving style around hyper sensitive Pirellis. Michael was probably the only driver that preferred even more oversteer / front end than Max.

I think that is a little unfair, when you hear Lando on the radio he is very calm despite what is going on around him. I believe his problem is he overthinks and that is where he makes his own problems. If he can sort his head out and he has the car he can be world champion as he has the talent, he just doesn’t have the confidence in himself right now. Also his team need to make the right decisions as they are getting it wrong far too many times.

You can tell that Albon sympathises with Checo. Its interesting to note that at the start of each season Checo is really competitive, as they adjust the car for Max through each season, Checo gets progressively worse. They need to identify who the drivers are that also love a really sharp setup for the 2nd seat at Red Bull. Is that how Lawson likes his car set up?

No. There was one other driver with this technique: Michael Schumacher.

They change the Max's car his liking, but leave Checo's car alone. Meanwhile because the car starts to feel more natural to Max, he is starting to go even faster, while Checo stays at the same pace, so only relative to Max Check is going slower. Alex, Gasly and Checo are not bad drivers, but like Newey told here they need all of their attention on driving the car and that is why their performance also varies much more per race. Alex is now driving with Williams and if he scores points they celebrate that as if they just won the world championship. With Red Bull they expect that you finish relative close to your teammate. But while Max won Brazil, Checo only finished P11 with both vcarb cars in front of him. There are two reasons why Chech still has a seat at Red Bull, first they don't have a replacement driver that guarantee will do better than Perez. Max just crushes his teammates. Another reason is that Perez is very popular in Latin America and the Red Bull Energy company is selling a lot of cans in those reasons. In 2023 there was only a 27 million price money difference with the constructors between P1 and P4. In 2023 I attended a seminar where a former Red Bull marketing told they audience that since Perez joined Red Bull, sales in Latin America tripled over night. Unlike that other teams in Formula 1A, Red Bull is the only one not selling cars (at least not at a primary product) and they are just the party team trying to win the drivers championship because the press (and fans) are more interested in the drivers than the teams. Of course Horner and Marko would love to win both championships.

And while Max side continues to make it more pointy more sensitive faster but more dangerous to drive the other side cannot give the same setup if they try it no longer suits their style and they fail. Realize also that no f1 driver will admit another driver is better! That will never happen as that would create doubt in their current team or future teams they can become the next champion thus hurting their careers.

They don't really need to do that. There are two obvious drivers who also like such a car, and RBR already considered both and rejected them. The first one is Ricciardo who wanted to come back and was unceremoniously dropped in favour of letting Perez keep failing for the remainder of the season. The other one is Hulkenberg who was considered alongside Perez in 2020 to replace Albon. Now Hulkenberg not only likes that style of car, but actually has a far more similar driving style to Verstappen than a lot of other drivers. From what I could gather back then, there seem to have been doubts about his consistency and maybe also the fact that he was favoured by Verstappen. RBR created this mess themselves and now they are inheriting a well deserved loss in the WCC, infighting and losing Newey.

Max has pure racing pedigree, everybody’s hating on Jos Verstappen, but I’m from the same region and they’re just typical blue collar people. Jos was quite fast but without proper guidance. He managed to drive in F1 for many years, which is impressive for a Dutch driver. He did some stupid things but he’s actually a nice guy. When Max made clear racing was all he wanted, Jos pushed him to be the best he can be. Nothing wrong with that, they don’t have Stroll money, Jos invested a considerable amount of his net worth into Max’ career, he wanted results for that. I don’t think Max blames him for anything, they’re just moving up in life. Only downside of Max’ talent and pedigree is that he’s destroying beautiful careers like Riciardo’s, Gassly’s, Albon’s and Checo’s.

Some people dont understand what Albon means when he talks about the car. To be fast in F1 your car can either have a high potential speed by being rather "sensitive and precise" but also is rather risky and takes alot of skill for drivers to properly handle. Or you can have a car that is not quite that intense but is better to handle for the drivers, leading to more consistent and better speed output.

What Newey said about Max having spare capacity, that is something that only the truly great posses. The very best don't have to think about driving fast, they just do, and instead use their brain capacity to think of everything else. That's why Norris had no chance this year. Sure he has pace, but it's clear it took him 100% of his brain power to do that kind of pace. Not to mention will joseph yapping into Norris who has no spare capacity to think.

Also the part where Adrian speaks about mental capacity - Norris can set a quick quali lap, drive the car reasonably well, but he does not seem to have the same mental capacity as Max (leftover) so he gets into mistakes, tangles and seems to burst under pressure

Alex Albon is not just a great racing driver but a truly nice, down to earth human being - his extremely well articulated explanation about a "sharp nosed car" goes a LONG way to explaining why Checo is having such a DEVIL of a time and I think that MANY of the drivers on the grid would have similar challenges with driving the second R B car.

Max is the GOAT. Even now that the RB is no longer the fastest car and probably only the 3d or 4th fastest on the grid (after the McLaren, Mercedes and Ferrari) Max still is leading in the WDC with a big lead, and 7 wins this season, and on a slippery track with new asphalt in the rain in Brazil, where *everybody* was crawling and sliding off, Max gave a faultless demonstration, going from P17 to P2 before the safety car came out, raking up 17(!) fastest laps, and being more than 1.2 seconds faster than anybody else (including "rainmaster" Hamilton, Alonso, LeClerck and Norris... )

It's probably just like jet fighters. In order to get the best maneuverability the plane has to be inherently unstable. In a jet fighter keeping it within the borders there are the avionics, in the RB car there's Max.

Stroll is the one that most obviously lacks that part, when all he has to do is drive he's a capable midfield driver and even good in the rain. Get him extra tasks and it gets problematic quickly.

To paraphrase Alex, fundamentally, it starts off as individual set up. But then for team mate to remain competitive, that driver must drive like Max or better. So they end up trying to compete with similar set up as Max, then get into trouble. The teammate needs to be someone with unshakable self belief to continue in their own style and still outqualify Max. Let's see how Lawson does. Although Marko's instructions are clear to not jeopardise Max's WDC campaign, Lawson doesn't come across as someone who will kowtow beyond a point. Especially, if the car is supportive. FIA should ban team orders rather than go after drivers for uttering cuss words. Let the drivers fight it out. Makes for better viewership, wider competition and perhaps teams will focus on putting two good cars on track every race.

It's a genuine challenge, no doubt about it. Newey's cars have the reputation for being SO difficult to fully exploit, to take to their full limits. The challenge at Aston-Martin for Newey is, how to adequately dumb a Newey chassis down for the Boss's son while preserving the speed & the handling you need to be a true contender. Truly, you're looking at a black art but if anyone can do it, it's probably Newey.
