Yeah if I'm in a social situation when I'm feeling in control and I like the people I can charm the room, but I extrovert more as ENTP since my social circle is usually male dominated and I have a nice space to go gungho on Te. As Asura has mentioned, INTJs do read/pick up on the Fe in a room, we just rarely react to it (as INFJ will). Even though it feels awkward and incomplete to say "I'm sorry that sounds rough" instead of actually helping when a friend has a problem, you learn to suck it up and leave it at that until/if they ask. This is one example of making an effort to employ the knowledge you have intuitively picked up on in a group, socially extroverted-intelligence stuff.

T an example is for any job interview I had I used my ni to understand what makes people feel comfortable by thinking what makes myself feel comfortable and I learned to be that person in social situations. It works everytime I smile a lot while wrinkling my eyes , I nod my head for reassurance, I make a lot of jokes , and I basically say whatever comes to mind while using Se. As an XNFJ it was very helpful that you've highlighted the dominant function is a large piece of the personality and not 50/50 with the auxiliary function. This now means to me I'm an ENFJ. My auxiliary Ni didn't awaken until I was in my early 50's. I can see that I've been using Ni to back up my Fe to some degree throughout life but it came into it's own fully in midlife. For the past five years I've become probably more dominant in Ni. A lot of friendships have fallen away. Partly due to ill health, I became very introverted and really embraced Ni, enjoying the inner exploration. I now have a process model of self-healing (based on the enneagram symbol) that I developed over 6/7 years of deep inner exploration, that I've wanted to share with others somehow but the desire has become less and less (opposite to what you said about dominant Ni). I get very lost in tertiary Se in a fug of laziness. I'm focusing on my Se in trying to introduce more healthy Se practices (exercise). Up until my mid 40s my Se was more healthy (regular exerciser) now my Ni wants to pull me into learning more, exploring more and focusing on my body is a challenge. A question for AsuraPsych: Is it common for ENFJs to be very resistant to seeking help?

Once again, you have created Interesting and informative content, AsuraPsych. Our personality type is not One Size fits All. Quantum Leap me and Warp Speed ahead, Scotty but this may be a long comment. Warning, unsolicited hindsight ahead... Spock was my first SciFi crush. I would be surprised to find two of us who are the same. I get challenged sometimes and try to explain how different we are, especially here on KZbin. Reddit has subreddits and I spent almost a year there meeting my people. I thought of my first Intj's as if they were in my homeroom class and I was back in school. I was astonished to hear the youngish talk about what I thought about when I was a LIttle but it was our Oldish who had married and had children, my peers who made me feel almost tribal for the first time. Remember, I was military and esprit des corps is in the water at the chow hall. In my case, the closest I have come to finding my twin is INTJ Island who looks like my older brother and we had the exact same sort of journey as I did except that he joined the Navy and I joined the Air Force. He is a bit older than I. Think of the Wonder Years where our parents were Mad Men. I was a Winnie while he was the older brother who came home. c k and I look alike but she is younger and prettier, of course. stomping my foot now. AsuraPsych I am just so pleased that someone like you can represent us. You teach us. You explain MBTI in a very professional manner and help us to understand ourselves. I came to MBTI at 60. I think the military had typed me but we were not allowed access to those records. After a personal 'awakening' and by then and by curious george, I really only needed the words, terms, and definitions to help me articulate what I already understood about myself and had experienced. I found Jordan Peterson who is annoying for some reason but like you, he has quality content and will source his information. I really want his Irish Walking Coat or one like his coat. Peterson connected the allegories, books and vast libraries of information that I have gathered over the years to what I had observed and stored as pattern recognition with meaning for cause and effect. I weigh and I stand beside my integrity as much as life allowed/allows. sigh Pattern Recognition and Intuition are not woohoo voodoo. We are just looking over our shoulder to the past and the future and weighing risk versus reward then trusting our 'feelings' or in my case, my pages of notes and the clipboard, journal etc... I am organized and form follows function but I like pretty things that are interesting. That does not mean pop in to visit or try to "Surprise" me. I want advanced notice to be prepared for the unexpected. If someone prefers, we can schedule spontaneity and I am teasing because I love the unexpected path off of the main road almost as much as I love Walt Whitman or Carl Frost. We can put the dog on the leash but when he wags his tail, who knows what mailman he may chase. Smart people like you who are also gentle, kind and wise plus some of our other channels allowed me to understand who I was and why when I was not aware my type had a 'destiny' so to speak, I still maintained my 'self'. I had no trouble understanding whether I fe fi fo or fum _ed. Life finds a way and is sometimes very interesting to consider and like most people, I did wonder and ponder but then suddenly last July Serendipity and I find a really terrific book and think oh my, this book is my biography. I wonder how they knew all of these tiny details of my life.?" and there a few shame shivers which are included in the book but it is only half full, yet. Again, after I realized you Kant beat the Jung at Heart, I went aGoogling to gauge my heuristic availability and the Barnum effect. I do love a circus even if it is not PC. I think our ENFPs are like elephants. They are popular, smart and fun to be around. When I found Carl Jung and of course, he was not new to me, this time I paid attention. I am well educated but I devoured his information this time because I had a reason to want to learn more and then I went to fill in the blanks with psychology, philosophy and suddenly, history serves notice that Dr. Jung and his neighbor Freud had Te in Darwin's parlour. Talk about Jacksonian democracy and Jeffersonian democracy but I digress or perhaps pun. Jung did terrify me a bit when he described the Introverted INtuitive with her psychosis et al but now that the neuroscience of our hard-wiring is available and neural imaging can offer us science to understand, I am not worried that is my fate because it was not my past. And I mentored holistic health on a Ferret Forum. Nature and Nurture play a role in who we are. I now consider or think of myself as driving around in a lovely silver-blue Jaguar car on my way to the fortune wheel of fate/life. My ego drives and has a masculine or what we called a 'tomboy' energy. Hence I wore pearls under my BDU's My passenger and feminine energy grew up in the Age of Aquarius with a traditional conservative old-money family and yet, I longed to fly free and wear my peace beads, part my long hair in the middle and hang black lights in my room. Instead, I was a very good girl. I or she is the one who usually extroverts out of the front seat first because she is friendlier and likes a change of habit. I also learned the importance of tradition, etiquette, social mores' et al. A rational person finds the best tool for the job so we let her go first...and I am only playing with words because I want to learn to write or play with comedy on the Late Night comment channels. I see my blind spot or inner ten-year-old child as my conscience while my Id is a very young child who looks up to my Batman carrying lunch box little Coshise loving self to explore and expand for her but our littleish is a bit ISTJ and likes the rules, traditions, and history that make up our collective consciousness and unconscious. She is not afraid of the new people trying to drink from our pond. Phoenix Rising from the Ashes or INtroverted INtuitive minus the psychosis. I wonder if this was nature or nurture? I agree with what you said about developing specific functions. I think much of the pressure to develop opposed funktions comes from steriotyps and connecting behaviour with funktions. If someone says to a thiker that they are destined to allways be rude and blunt of course they will get scared and wants to do something about it. Most humans what to be descent human beings and support the ones around them.

On another level, I am aware of taking it all, mentally checking accuracy and objectivity, moving things in my mind like taking out/adding lego blocks, and laughing all the while as to why I keep seeing these images in my head - all the while reviewing experiences in my past which could have been pivotal in my development. Actually there is a wonderful theory that development goes as deep as growing different priorities/order/relation of one's functions hence as an enfp developing an infj shadow, an istj and an estp within his psyche as a subconsious or superego or whatever. These might be behavior specific or who knows even real sets of cognition you develop as you grow older and transcend your type. Trippy stuff.
@SaraDylan19934 жыл бұрын
So I’ve seen this explained differently by different people. Most people say the third and fourth functions are COMPLETELY opposite... so if your dom is Fi, its opposite is Te. But this approach of instead inverting extroversion/introversion on the function is one I’ve only seen suggested in one other place. Personally the former makes more sense to me... I’m INFJ and whilst my aux function is Fe, I’m pretty strong on Fi too, and I’ve absolutely noticed Ti manifesting in an underdeveloped way when I’m stressed (for instance, I spend a lot of time trying to keep people happy, but if I get pushed too far I’ll snap and weaponise harsh truths I’ve been keeping to myself). So which is actually true to the theory?

My experience is that i'm capable of using my 4th function allot (Te) although i don't like doing it. In fact, i use it quite allot at my job, which i don't like, but stay in- because of financial stability. My current take is that- as long as you are AWARE of your dominant function, and know how it is to lead with it, All kinds of "integrations" are possible, even needed. It is easier for Extroverts to truly live the outside life aligned with their dominant function, and survive. Introverts struggle much more with that, but they have access to a "rich inner life"- that may withstand the inner conflict. Introverts are capable of turning outward failure- into inner awakening.

There is a problem with this model. Either the capabilities of the dominant function is far greater than as the narrow purpose as described, or the lesser functions have more of a role to play in our lives than believed. The complexities of daily life demand it. Otherwise, we could assume that all humans operate on a common base level in our everyday functions, and the Jungian cognitive functions operate above that, and provide for higher level direction on how we perceive and operate in the world.
@wynstansmom8295 жыл бұрын
Matt Bonneville, AsuraPsych is a certified MBTI practitioner. He discusses the classic MBTI model which I find elegant and practical. MBTI was developed early in the last century and was primarily designed to help businesses hire the best person for the job. The military used this model and now there are many companies like Wells Fargo that test their employees before they hire them. Socionics is a Russian/Eastern European model that built upon MBTI and the different models are more sociology based, as I understand Socionics. Model A was the early models and now Model G is creating some confusion here online to newish to personality types because they flip the cognitive functions. CS Joseph uses this model. DaveSuperPowers takes personality typing to the 500ish degree and you can see who you look like and what type they are. Bonneville, I remember when a Blue Bonneville was a pretty cool car that all of our Dad's kind of sort of wanted. Mad Men, oh those Wonder Years. note: the above word salad is a reference to the 1960's, a cable tv series and a network broadcast show a few decades backc.

It is a pretty exciting convergance of Ni-Se, because I'm actually kind of showcasing Ni. What I strive for is technical perfection, and emotional delivery is included in that technical planning; people seem to react positively to my "good natural stage presence" and what I think they are seeing is Ni full-frontal. Edit to clarify: normally we filter Se through Ni, but on stage performing seems to route it the opposite way; Ni gets filtered through Se (external showcase).

Two things @AsuraPsych: 1) Does MBTI imply that there are people, even though they eventually develop all 4 functions, remain something like polar opposites, like in the case of INTJ vs. INTP when they have either Ni-Te-Fi-Se or Ti-Ne-Si-Fe and thus would always think, feel, patternize and factualize differently? 2) Saying that the 4th function is suppressed implies a sort of malevolent force, maybe calling it for example neglected seems more accurate to me.
@t53965 жыл бұрын
"Neglected," to me, implies that you have a choice about developing the inferior function, which, according to Asura, you really can't do.
@maddiesiegmund56234 жыл бұрын
1) Yes, INTJs and INTPs are quite different in their thoughts, feelings and pattern recognition. INTPs are thinkers while INTJs are actually rationals. INTPs will be more concerned with the logical structure and internal consistency of information while INTJs consider how information fits into an existing framework that THEY have perceived. We do often get along as friends, unless prideful egos get in the way. 2) I can only speak as an INTJ, but Se is a legitimate struggle sometimes in life. Too much stimulation of the sensory can be extremely uncomfortable- though not in an autistic sense. Sustained engagement with the physical world is EXTREMELY TIRING and we have to take care to utilize our very finite energy wisely throughout our days . This is why we absolutely require tranquil alone time.

@AsuraPsych5 жыл бұрын
I dont think that one should stay only within their primary two, but instead recognize that training completely foreign aspects of their personality is not likely going to result in any real gain. Instead of trying to force oneself Into a mode of being that isn't natural they should instead learn how their natural mode of being can be better adapted to certain situations. For example, you likely cant teach an ESTJ to be open and emotional or to even care about such things in professional environments but you can help an ESTJ recognize that a softer approach with extroverted thinking could do wonders for them, especially if they have feeling heavy work teams. Te doesn't necessarily have to be overtly critical, it just tends to display that way. Realizing that harsh criticism can actually hurt productivity or communication and therefore learning to communicate in a softer way is a great example of how many high end managers can better communicate without stepping into a foreign side of the psyche. Instead of attempting Fe, refine Te while keeping an eye on how the repressed function (Fi) might he influencing behavior in a negative way. Thanks for watching!

I'm an INTJ, I've always had demonic/weird thoughts and I control them cause my mom says it hurts her thinking I could be a bad person. But I know who I am and I wanted to maybe explore it, see where it takes me. What do you think?
@thesunsetsgolden5 жыл бұрын
Often, once you try and accept your thoughts, you might realize that they want to tell you something. Possibly to try and show you an opening where you would be better off than you are right now. Once you change something and allow yourself to follow your own way and to trust yourself, these thoughts will disappear, as there is no reason for them. Of course, it might be advantageous to get help from a therapist or some way to look at these thoughts with someone else. Since INTJ is the most independent type, it could be related to someone not allowing you to unfold your systems thinking, some circumstance that keeps your strengths suppressed. But that is just guessing.

@@thesunsetsgolden Sometimes I do think those thoughts are trying to tell me something for the good. I personally want to change some issues but these thoughts I had them too when I was a child. Also I think I am the one that's trying to suppress myself cause some situations but as I said, I always had them anyway

@@arath4430 So best to solve the big things first and then see which of the small things remain a problem. And find somebody to walk the path with you so you can be more objective. Life is quite chaotic, a bit of noise will remain. You can still be happy.

@@icecreaminwinter6034 Ok. I'm 18 years old, I'm not interested in any of what you mentioned, not even like horror movies etc. When I was a child I had fear of these voices that I was hearing constantly night by night, It only happened when I was alone and everyone asleep I thought it was schizophrenia but I don't think so. Those voices were for example; "You need to move", "Arath let me", no orders, a couple of screamings and I couldn't control them so the only person that knows all of this is my mom. She explained me no one should know cause it could be something big so I had to only concentrate not to have them and wish for the luck. These voices disappeared but reappeared in high school during sadness cause of my family problems. Now my parents are divorcing I'm trying to have a big open mind about that but everytime I'm alone I begin to think of random accidents, my dreams are bizarre, but I just try to avoid it cause I know I'm not crazy, I just wanna know why I have this and why I always had it. I've asked to some friends if they think like it when alone but apparently just me
